Tom Says: “I find this a little scary…”

Either I’m starting to think like Pope Benedict XVI, or the Pontiff is starting to think like me, but whatever it is — we’re on the same wave-length.

I’m among those climate change sceptics who continue to insist that we aren’t sure if industrial emissions must shoulder the lion’s share of the blame for global climate change.

Pope Benedict in his remarks — all part of his annual message to be released on World Peace Day, January 1st, 2008 — suggest that fear over man-made emissions, melting of the ice-caps and a predicted wave of unprecedented disasters is nothing more than “scare mongering.”

The Pope is sure some of the concerns are valid, but policies must be based on science rather than the dogma of the environmental movement.  He understands the world needs to care for the environment, but not to the point where the welfare of animals and plants is given greater priority than that of mankind on Earth.

“Humanity today is rightly concerned about the ecological balance of tomorrow.”

“Agreement on a model of sustainable development capable of insuring the well being of all people, while respecting environmental balances.”

If nothing else, the environmental movement has given a 59 year old failed Presidential candidate countless millions of dollars.

Today, Al Gore commands as much as $125,000 per speaking engagement, holds stock options in Google worth an estimated 20-million dollars and has made as much as four-million in advance of deals.

One would be an idiot not to recognize that mankind has made contributions to the climate change now occurring, but I’m still having trouble understanding how people go on discounting the fact that most of what is occurring could, (for the most part) be a naturally occurring phenomenon.

Maybe all it will take is a quick phone call to The Vatican so I’ll be able to ascertain what other roads Pope Benedict and I can walk down in step together…

I’m Tom Young.

Could you please tell me the name of the Book that Tom and his guest were talking about yesterday on removing toxics from your body.
    Thanking you in Advance

The planet earth has been undergoing climate change as long as it has existed.More importantly long before the industrial revolution occurred.
Now all of a sudden the human race is to blame for climate change? At least thats what the global socialists and their useful idiots want us all to believe.

There has been no conclusive scientific evidence put forward which implicates the human race as being the cause of climate change.Instead the Left has used emotionally charged rhetoric to back their claims and shut down any of their detractors,as per usual.
Until these global whiners open the floor to real debate where all arguments and scientific data are taken into account.I consider “global warming”,the Kyoto accord and all this other BS as nothing but some grandiose socialist wealth transfer scheme!

    Holy smokes Mr. Young,

Do you remember an old television ad where a father and son are on a boat and the dad throws a barrell of ’something’ into the water. The young boy asks his dad where it goes and the father’s response is a very unsure ….”away”.

Well here we are some 150+ years since the industrial revolution. The world population is in excess of 6 Billion people and the technology humans have created has dramatically changed the world exponentially.

Over the last 150+ years where has the exhaust of all the cars, transport trucks, trains, airplanes and boats ever produced go? Where has the emissions of all the world factories gone? What about the pollution created just to manufacture the electricity that is consumed world wide … where do those emissions go? How about all the plastic and other non biodegradable materials we have buried in the Earth for decade after decade after decade after decade …? What about the over harvesting of our forests? Surely you do not believe the world’s rain forest is shrinking by devine intervention? What about 6 billion people using the washroom. Where does that go and what environmental costs can be associated with treating this product before it is re-introduced into our environment?

I could take all day to ask similar question after question after question about what is happening with these emissions that are created by us (humans). The Human is unquestionably the King of all Species. I can understand the importance of making sure we proliferate our existance over all other species. However, the existance of all species is directly related to the prolonged existance of each species. Meaning we are really only as strong as our weakest link.

We cannot realistically believe that animal, insect and plant matter is responsible for the questions posed above. Quite the contrary and much to Pope Benedict’s chagrin that is our cross to bare. As humans continue to consume finite resources at an infinite rate how long before the hand that feeds us comes back to bite?

In closing, at the very least, please consider the questions posed above. There is no personal claim to have all the answers but I am extremely confident what the answer is not … and that is “away”.

There is a scientific consensus out there that global warming is real and primarily caused by human activity. It’s easy to slam Al Gore and accuse him of profiting off of environmentalism. But what about those who profit from manufacturing doubt about global warming. ExxonMobil has paid “scientists” to go on TV and tell us that there’s not enough proof (http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/2007-01-03-global-warming_x.htm). The work being done to discredit global warming overwhelmingly comes from interest groups who work for the pollutors. This sort of mirrors the tobacco company’s efforts years ago to deceive the public into believing that smoking is a safe fun thing to do. Today we know better. And I pray that we will all work together to solve this problem so we can leave a healthy planet for our children and grandchildren.

The Pope’s comments, in my opinion are rather hypocritical, seeing as how his vocation itself relies entirely upon our fears: fear of God, fear of damnation, fear of eternity in Hell.
Whether or not we are contributing to the global “changes” being reported, it’s interesting how some religious leaders can cherry pick which theories “must be based on science” such as global warming, which must be based on faith alone such as God and which positions of science must be rebuked, such as evolution and big bang theory.
Please Pontiff … pick a side and stick with it. I’m confused.
