Leap babies…

February 28th, 2008 by tarachym

Tomorrow is February 29th.  A day that only occurs once every four years.  My friend, Kim, is a leap year baby.  She said as a kid she hated it… but now that she’s facing 40… she can tell everyone she’s 10!  Happy Birthday, Kim!  I hope your mom bakes you one of those cakes with money in it that you loved when you really WERE 10!

It’s RRSP Season

February 26th, 2008 by tarachym

Not that I’m very good at keeping track of these things but, luckily, my bank is and they called to see if I wanted to come in and review my plan.  I try to educate myself on RRSPs and investments but, to be honest, my brain kinda shuts down when I start thinking numbers.  So, I trust the professionals, get their opinion and increase my monthly contributions.  I love my job but, with any luck (and smart investments… and our solid pension plan… and maybe a lottery jackpot) I’ll be able to retire someday!  Thoughts of travel, art classes and guitar lessons (just a few of my retirement dreams) dance through my head.  FYI the deadline is THIS Friday.

I can’t believe I watched the whole thing…

Stayed up waaaay too late watching the Oscars, but it’s Hollywood’s “biggest night”.  It’s always fun to watch and try to guess who’ll win (I’m rarely correct), to hear the acceptance speeches and see all the fashions!  Some random thoughts on Oscar night…

-red seemed to be the color this year…

-Sarah Lawson had a beautifully embroidered gown … but who noticed her standing next to George Clooney… I had to check the red carpet gallery this morning to see it

-LOVED Miley Cyrus’ and Calista Flockhart’s vintage Valentino  gowns

-I think Helen Mirren’s gown was my favorite, very elegant

-Julie Christie had the best hair… John Travolta looked like he sprayed his on

-Nicole Kidman’s necklace was stunning

-why can’t Renee Zellweger keep her eyes open?

You can see highlights at www.oscars.com .  As for my Oscar picks, I was wrong on all fronts.  And, I’m 0 for 2 on “Roll Up The Rim To Win”.  I’m doing nothing but losing!  Time to grab a nap!

It’s Oscar Night!

The awards show is just about to get started… I just finished watching the Barbara Walters’ Special and the red carpet show and grabbed my laptop.  It just occured to me that I’ve got butterflies in my stomach… I’m so nervous for the nominees!  I cannot imagine how they feel.  I’m surprised there isn’t alot of fainting.  How could you possibly breathe or even pay attention to the ceremony itself?  Not to mention being in front of the audience and knowing the tv audience numbers over a billion!  I think I would be praying NOT to win! :)  Oooh, George Clooney just took the stage… he’s so smooth.  (I watched “Michael Clayton” last night.  He was really good in it.)  Gotta go, they’re showing highlights from the last 80 years… enjoy the show!  Hope your favorites win!

My New Obsession

February 19th, 2008 by tarachym

So, I spent a good portion of the much anticipated long weekend sick on my couch (I know… “wah, wah, wah”)!  The upside was that it gave me time to watch all the episodes of “Flip That House” that I had on my PVR.  Is it cheating to just watch the beginning and the end?  Unbelievable!  A fun twist to makeover shows about people… love the “befores” and “afters”.  These “flippers” have incredible vision that is really inspiring!  Plus, I have a new appreciation for crown moulding.

No Calories… but EEEWWWW

Welch’s grape juice is taking out full page ads in People magazine that people will be able to lick to get a taste of their product…..which is fine although about five years from now when that magazine is sitting in your doctor’s office… I think you might take a pass on licking it then!

Mind Over Matter…

February 13th, 2008 by tarachym

Yesterday, I needed a mental vacation from the wintery weather… a break from shovelling, boots and wooly socks!  The answer?  Shoe shopping!  Bought a cute pair of open toed shoes, painted my toenails bubblegum pink and thought warm thoughts.  I’m so ready for Spring.

I feel so alone…

George and I have been separated to do our own blogging!  I haven’t felt like this since my best friend, Cheryl, and I were put into different Grade 6 classes to try to force us to become more independent of each other!  (it didn’t work)  Actually, this feels nothing like that… but it made me think of Cheryl and that’s always nice.  I really should call her this weekend.  In fact, I have A LOT of calls I should be making to my “childhood” friends to see if I’m the only one who is getting REALLY geared up about the 25thanniversary remake of Michael Jackson’s “THRILLER”.  It’s been getting a lot of press lately and I’m finding myself getting caught up in the hype.  Not only did it bring back some really fun memories but it’s reminded me of how HUGE  Michael Jackson was.  It was a groundbreaking album and (imho) has stood the test of time.  I’ll be shopping for it Tuesday!

Have a good weekend … practice your moonwalking and zombie dancing!!!
