Hi Susan,

I had a problem with ants and I found that by placing fresh cucumber skins detered the ants from coming into the house. The only problem is that you must place fresh skins when the previous ones dry out.

I haven't seen an ant in over a year.

It either worked or the ants became a part of an ant farm.

Regards,

Hi Susan,
We've had some ant problems over the years . One year it exploded when they started coming in a corner of a window ledge on the ground floor ,back corner of the house. We knew that was a big prob. especially when they were large and some had wings ! We used a (bomb) spray down the inside wall and that got rid of them . The rest of the times it was those little reddish brown ants. They come out of corners and walls . They do like the kitchen counter, don't they?! lol I was told they don't eat your house , but bring in dirt that eventually can cause rotting of the area -something like that.
Well we found something - orange spray- D-limonene - a natural citrus solvent made from refined citrus oils.( can get it at places like home depot ). We use it mostly for cleaning , but it is a great bug killer. It has to be diluted in a spray bottle and when the ants come in , I find their entry point and spray that area. after a few time they stop. it also kills them and then it cleans too. I use it to wash the walls and floors and many other things . Keep it on the deck when the yellow jackets (bees), come we spray them too. Check it out . Unless you want to keep them coming???
 And... happy cleaning!

When I post a blog, I put it on my facebook page as well so that I can share it with family and friends (and know for sure someone will read it:)

I received some comments about my ant problem that I thought were worth sharing here...

Jane:

You absolutely make me LOL! Can't you just spray them with raid?

Robin:

LOL I certainly hope they're not carpenter ants!

Jane:

If they are carpenter ants, you need an exterminator. My neighbor just had to have her house done.

Susan:

Nope, tried Raid.

I hadn't actually thought of them being carpenter ants, but I'm quite sure these are just your regular, friendly ants. They just pop in for their daily dose of Aunt Jemima's (or should I say Ant Jemima's - hahaha) and then go on with their lives.

Robin:

That's hilarious...they're gonna LOVE you, or die of sugar shock!
Make sure they're not carpenters though or your home will be falling down around you!

Shawn:

Hey Susan! How are ya? Long time, no talk....and ants bring us together!
Here's the deal....cornmeal! Ants love it, take it off to the nest, eat it up, then
promptly die because they can't digest it! We've been feeding them for just
over a week, and they are dying off....unless of course you've become
friends with them now...it kind of sounds like it! Good luck....

Susan:

Hi Shawn! Excellent thanks...how are you doing? And yes, unusual circumstances to meet again!

Thanks for the tip! The syrup is now gone (wiping up the syrup-aunt mixture is always a bit weird), and I have replaced it with cornmeal. They don't dive in quite like they did with the syrup, but they are grazing;) I will keep you posted! And I'll try not to think of them bloating to death back at the nest lol!
