Crue Tix….

August 25th, 2008 by sstevens

I hope you had a nice weekend!  Tomorrow is Two Second Tuesday AND I also have 2nd row Cruefest tix to give away.  Pretty cool….the Two Second Tuesday trip is Alice Cooper in Halifax.  Promise if you win, you’ll visit ‘Pizza Corner’ and have a donair:)

We’ll let you know tomorrow how we’re going to give away the second row seats for the Cruefest show.  Should be a good concert.  Papa Roach, Trapt, Sixx AM, Buckcherry and Motley Crue are all on the bill.  I spoke with Jacoby of Papa Roach this past Friday.  They were in Boston and are pretty excited to be headed to Toronto.  He said that the shows thus far have just gelled so well and the vibe is pretty electric.  It’ll be a night of hits….and other things that rhyme….

Good luck tomorrow!  If you have any probs with the Two Second Tuesday, email me.  If you haven’t signed up as a Jack Nation member and want to, now would be a good time to do so.  If you have probs with that, email me and I’ll try and help you out.

Use ‘vince’ for some extra Jack Nation bonus points!

Thanks for stopping by!

Weekend stuff….

August 22nd, 2008 by sstevens

Good Morning!

Seems the countdown from last weekend ran this am…..the correct one will run tonight and tomorrow night as well.  In the event that you miss it, the code is ‘onehitwonder’.  The countdown this weekend is actually all former number ones and a bunch of one hit wonders.  It’s pretty fun.  I hope you get a chance to hear it.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend:)

From time to time, I receive emails with links for various events you guys are involved in.  Here’s some stuff going on this weekend in Markham.  Sounds like if you dig cars and music, it might not be a bad place to visit - Oddball Kustoms - thanks to the gang for keeping it on Jack at work.  We appreciate it:

Our open house is on Saturday, August 23. This is an event where everyone can bring their families and classic cars/bikes/hot rods, listen to some music, and basically just enjoy the day. Last year, over 200 cars came out as well as over 600 people!! There are lots of pictures you can check out from last year here: http://oddballkustoms.com/?category_name=oddball-kustoms-open-house. This year, we are expecting even more people to come out! There will be live burnouts, food off the chip truck, music, raffles, etc. The open house will be running from 1pm on the Saturday until whenever that evening. You can see the flyer for the event here: http://www.oddballkustomscom/?p=312.

Don Landry from the Fan 590, our brother station,  is hosting a cool event tom0rrrow.  It’s the 15th Annual Corn Roast put on by the ‘Friends of the Argonauts’.  Their website is :  www.friendsoftheargonauts.ca

If you missed it, the Sexy Bingo number was N34…..tickets for the Who in Hamilton in October is the giveaway on this weekend’s Jack Nation TV Countdown.  Good luck!!

 Thanks for stopping by!

What would you listen to?

August 21st, 2008 by sstevens

Many of the Olympic athletes are seen wearing ipod’s.  What do you think they are listening to previous to their events?

Adam van Koeverden likes to listen to Broken Social Scene

Micheal Phelps enjoys a little hip hop before he launches

Karen Cockburn seems to dig Kanye West

What would you listen to, name your ‘event’ and the song that you would listen to immediately before your performance…..

I’d listen to Saliva or Disturbed and my event would be….some sort of short sprint run….and you?

Use the word ‘medals’ for some extra Jack Nation points.

 Thanks for stopping by!

Bloggity blog blog…

August 18th, 2008 by sstevens

Nice title eh?  Couldn’t think of anything else.  It’s one of those brain tired sort of days.  I spent the weekend taking part in a terrific seminar, but, now feel like I missed out on the weekend….which I guess I sort of did.  Wa wa wa….the seminar was great, but, knowing the sun was shining and my motorcycle was sitting at home was, well, sigh….

I’m going to attempt to visit the CNE later this week.  It looks like a spectacular week weather-wise for anything outdoors.  Nice call if you have this week for holidays.

Tomorrow is ‘Two Second Tuesday’.  This go round, you’d be off to see the Black Crowes play at The Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver.  That would be a nice way to wrap up the summer up, don’t you think?

Next week will be a busy one for me, in a good way.  Monday night we have the Kid Rock show at the Molson Ampitheatre.  There’s a contest on the ‘draw’s’ page of this site for tix, a backstage meet and greet (which, I’ll be your escort for) and his discography.  Then later in the week we have Cruefest, Thursday night.  The night before the concert, I’m hosting an event for a couple lovely ladies who are helping Covenant House out.

 www.myspace.com/homesweethomeevent

It’s myself and Tara Sloan from Joydrop hosting the evening.  Should be a lot of fun….and a great cause all in one.  The details are on the link provided above.  I’ll post it a few times this week, just cause.  Use the name ‘joydrop’ for some extra Jack Nation points!

Thanks for stopping by!

130 years young….

August 15th, 2008 by sstevens

The CNE opened this morning.  Thanks for your CNE memories earlier in the week.  I’m going to use some of them in the Jack Nation Countdown this weekend.  Jeff’s morning show bonus code was tiny tom….mmmm…..remember those yummy little donuts?  What are most looking forward to eating that’s bad for you at the EX?  corn dog?  cotton candy?  warm beer nuts? Kim Mitchell will play at the EX this weekend, and the weather sounds great!

I know that we don’t usually mention ‘other’ radio stations on blogs, on air, all of that.  It’s not a normal practice in business, but, I will tell you Kim is a good friend, even though he works for Q;)  Another radio friend is doing something that I admire and I want to support her.  My girlfriend, Leanne works for Country 95.3.  She’s involved in a lot of fundraising when it comes to breast cancer.  She’s lost 3 women she loved to the disease and is willing to shave her beautiful hair over it….I can tell you honestly, I admit that I’m too vain.  I don’t think I could do that.  I don’t want to see her do it either, but, I’ll donate to the cause anyway.  I admire you, Lea.  Here’s what she’s up to:

The Country 95.3 Weekend To End Breast Cancer “BROADcast”…when All the C95.3 women take over the airwaves to raise money to end breast cancer.  If we reach our goal, I shave my HEAD!  Actually YOU might be the one to do it ;)  You can help now if you like…just follow this link to donate:

Good luck Lea!

The ‘Sexy Bingo’ code from today was G52.

Have a terrific weekend!

5 Years Ago Today…

August 14th, 2008 by sstevens

It was 5 years ago today that the ‘Blackout’ occurred…..were you living in Toronto at the time?  I was living and working in Ottawa at the time.  I happened to be on the air…..our station had a giant diesel generator set up for such emergencies.  On one hand it was good, we had a/c at the station, on the other, we were still working:)  What were you doing?

Once we realized it wasn’t terrorism, I thought it would be fun for a day or so…..and it went on and on and on….the food in the freezer had to be consumed and dealt with.  I also realized, as maybe you did, that I have NO plan to deal with such emergencies.  No serious stock of food, water or necessary things….other than the normal stuff one keeps.  My candles smell like vanilla, not emergency…..did the ‘Blackout’ change anything for you?  Did you create or maybe you already had an ‘emergency preparedness kit’?

Use the work blackout for some extra bonus points.

 Thanks for stopping by!

Have fun if you’re headed to the Bills game tonight!

Let’s go to the Ex….already?

August 11th, 2008 by sstevens

Okay, how did that happen?  It’s the 11th of August.  The CNE begins later this week!  This Friday!  I always loved going as a kid, but, it always meant the bittersweet end of summer.  I’m getting things geared up for the weekend countdown.  I don’t have the top 20 ready yet, we still need more of your votes on that.  I’m in the process of writing all the other stuff and want to hear what your favorite CNE memories are?  I’d like to include some of your emails in the countdown, so please include a first name and where you live.  Use the bonus code CNE for some extra points.

Thanks in advance:)

Bonjovi-itis….

August 1st, 2008 by sstevens

Hi there!

One of the guys in the building here at Bloor and Jarvis has started something….everytime I play a Bon Jovi song I get pseudo hate mail….I say pseudo because I know it’s not me that Adam hates, just Jon Bon Jovi….that’s opened up a can of ‘haters’.  I didn’t realize there was such a distate for Jon….seems to only come from guys mostly…..what’s the deal with that?  Is it because he’s hot?  And a rockstar?  The women want him…..or is it something else?  I’ve attached a couple of emails that I’ve received with regard to the whole thing.  Feel free to leave a comment.

The website that allows me to create bonus codes is down….I will try and get one set before I leave this aft for you!

Enjoy the beautiful weather….I’m off until August 10th.

Sam

Pam says:

Hey Samantha: This Bon Jovi thing is not limited to the guys at the radio station. My husband is the same one. I am a huge fan of Bon Jovi; have been since they first started. He kids me all the time that I just want to throw my underwear at him, which I would if I had the chance. However he did buy me their Lost Highway DVD for Christmas, which he did watch with me along with our 8-year old son. He proceeded to tell me that Jon Bon Jovi looks like a girl. But again they both watched the DVD with me. Which leads to me believe they are closet Bon Jovi fans. Keep playing Bon Jovi all us girls listening will keep enjoying, while they guys can just be jealous and wish they were him since he earned $104 million dollars this year.

Paul writes:

Maybe we’re too hard on this outbreak of Bon Jovi Ittis and maybe its not such a bad thing to come down with on a nice summer day.   I’ll just have to shorten it up for the boss and call it Jovittis so it sounds a little more believable…  But with my luck it would be a real illness and I’ll just start a whole Costanza thing…

The guy who started it all…..Adam: Owwwiieeeee …… I have pain in my gut ……… I think its called Bon Jovi-itus !!!!!!!

Two Second Tuesday

July 29th, 2008 by sstevens

It’s Two Second Tuesday….have you heard the clip?  I rated it a little more difficult than the past Tuesdays….Stephen disagrees:

Hi Sam,

I hope your doing well!

I just heard the morning clue, the difficult level is definitely not a 7….more like a 4 - :-)

Have a great day!

In those immortal words - See you on the radio!

Good luck!  The winner will score a trip for two to see Billy Idol and Def Leppard in Ottawa.

 Happy Birthday to Geddy Lee!

Enter ‘Geddylee’ as a bonus code for some extra points.

Is it me???

I’m beginning to think the weather is my fault….everytime I look at my motorcycle and think, ‘I should go for a tear’….it rains.  Except for today.  In fact, the next couple days look kinda nice.

The tv folks want another list.  This time I get to choose, so I chose: Top 5 Motorcycle Road Hazards…..tar snakes, cars, speed traps, rain, gravel, drivers on cell phones, pot holes…..what would you add?  Use the word ‘hazard’ for some extra Jack Nation bonus points.

Have you taken your summer holidays yet?  Planning to do it here in Ontario?  Driving somewhere?  If you are, make sure you enter the draw for the Sunoco gas card we’re giving away.  What a terrific prize.  $925.00 of free gas.  A little respite at the pumps.  Check the ‘draws’ page, but, I think it closes Sunday night at midnight.

Jeff Chalmers will be out on location this weekend.  He’s at the Pickering Markets on Saturday giving out bonus codes and weird looks.

This weekend on the tv version of the Jack Nation Countdown we have Toronto FC tickets to give away.

We’re heading out to Glen Abbey later today to take in a little golf…..54-40 and Blue Rodeo will play there in the evening over the next two days.  Crazy how they’re trying to ‘young’ golf up.  Seems to be working though.

Have a terrific weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!
