The Girls…..

the4ofus.jpg

I thought I’d add a photo from the Sis’ wedding…..don’t tell her.  She may not be thrilled that there’s a pic of her on a radio station website….really:)

The girls on the outside of us are a pair of sisters that we grew up with, Kim and Kelly.  We’re not related to them, but, we may as well be.  Those are the girls that I’ve pinky sworn with, told all my secrets to and laughed till it hurt with…..the girl to my left, in yellow, Kelly….her favorite story to tell is how I once ate a dog biscuit to stop her from crying……thank God for friends like them….I hope you have some of those people in your life.

Flashback……what was your fave cereal as a kid?  Making a top 5 list for the TV countdown show….

Cap’n Crunch?
Frosted Flakes?

Fruity Pebbles?

Use ’sugar’ as a bonus code.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sam

    Hi Sam,

Cap’n Crunch was my favorite… although the roof of my mouth was always raw after eating it. That stuff never softened up.

  2. irock Says:

Ugh! Wasn’t one for cereal, especially soggy cereal. I think I was partial to Snap, Crackle and Pop…with 3 table spoons of sugar to boot. ;)

As a kid, I remember eating the marshmellow shapes from the box of Lucky Charms or Count Chocula and leaving the cereal bits for lil’ sis.

  3. Richard S. Says:

    Hi Sam,

    Wow…a sweet flashback…

    My top 5 cereals were:

    5) Sugar Crisp (Remember the Bear? “Can’t get enough of that Sugar Crisp…Sugar Crisp!”)

    4) Honeycomb (from Post!)

    3) Frosted Flakes (”They’re Grrrrrrreat!)

    2) Franken Berry

    1) Count Chocula

  4. NatalieC Says:

BOO Berry! Man that cereal was the best!! I wish it was still available.

  5. Janis Says:

Definately: in the winter: Hot Porridge with LOTS of brown sugar, and hot shredded wheat, same brown sugar.

  6. Nan Says:

LOL! My Mom NEVER bought any of those listed! But I did get to have them at my friends house! (shhhhh, Don’t tell her!)

Anyhoo, my fave had to have been Captain Crunch! OMG could not get enough of that stuff! (took a week to pick it out of your teeth! But was soooo worth it!) Second one was Corn Pops!

And of course the good old standby, Porridge with CREAM and Brown Sugar!!!

Wow Sam, thanks, you really took me back in time!!!!!

  7. Donald W. Says:

The thing I liked about cereal is that is was one of the first things I could get for myself!! Rice Crispies and a bowl of sugar wins hands down!

  8. Louie Says:

I still eat cereal almost every morning. I have this weird habit of making sure that all the cereal is dunked in the milk before I eat it.

Anyway, I had a love/hate relationship with Cap’n Crunch when I was a kid. I like it now, but I don’t buy it. I loved Frosted Flakes when I was a kid too, and I’ve always loved Life cereal. They’ve got Cinnamon Life now, and actually, any cereal with cinnamon in it is okay by me!

I bought a couple boxes of Cinnabon cereal at Costco not too long ago. Yes, the great taste and aroma of those Cinnabon buns that are hard to pass up at Union Station and at some malls are now in cereal form. The cereal bits are even shaped like mini Cinnabon buns!

  9. Mich Says:

My favs were Cherios and Life with mega sugar (7 to 10 heaping tea spoons)!! My brother actually loved Boo Berry and Count Chocula

  10. Janet Says:

My fave cereal was Frankenberry (by the same guys who made Count Chocula). Strawberry marshmallows…YUM!! My brother and I only got 1 pick, once a year, so a lot of thought was always put into our choices. Next down the list was Cap’n Crunch. Can’t BELIEVE you haven’t tried them yet. Thankfully, I have kids, so I still get to indulge in that one!! P.S. They love it dry, it’s the best long-drive snack!

  11. Rick W. Says:

    Hi Sam,

I’d have to agree with another listener you mentioned. Boo Berry was the best stuff ever!!

It was so hard to find as I grew up, and now I don’t think it even exists. I’ll never understand why they kept making Frankenberry and not Boo Berry….

Other favourites were Cocoa Pebbles, Fruity Pebbles, Corn Pops… oh, and Apple Jacks… those were good too.

  12. NatalieC Says:

Currently the biggest favourite in the house is Reese puffs cereal. The box disappears within 2 days of purchase.

For those who don’t remember it Boo Berry was the ghost that was advertised with Frankenberry and Count Chocula

  13. Richard Says:

    Cap’n Crunch
    Frosted Flakes
    Trix
    Froot Loops
    Alphabits

  14. Pookie Says:

    I like….

    Honey comb
    Honey bunches of oats
    Honey frosted flakes
    Honey rice crispies
    Honey bran
and sometimes I’ll just have a bowl of honey slightly sweetened with honey. Who doesn’t like to eat their honey?

  15. Jamie T Says:

I used to love C3PO’s when I was a kid. I was devastated when I could no longer get them. “A new cruchy force at breakfast!”

Nowadays I love Lucky Charms and Reese’s Puffs Cereal.

  16. alanr Says:

Sam: My vote goes to Lucky Charms with the marshmallow pieces. Now that I’m old, I avoid the stuff high in sugar; stick to stuff like Cheerios and only use skim milk. Second place vote goes to Sugar Crisp.

  17. Stacye Says:

Cereal, hum, I could serve cereal for dinner 5 nights a week without an argument.

My husband is the biggest cereal connoisseur I have ever met and is actually okay with me NOT making dinner some nights, that means 3 maybe 4 bowls of cereal and he’s elated.

For those of you who travel across the border, some of our favorites are still available in the US. On a family Florida trip about 7 years ago, we bought 6 boxes of the sugary stuff, each of us picked one box ( the 4 kids picked ones they have never tasted before) and we switched it up every morning ( or night) so we all had some of each box.

I remember loving Frankenberry, BooBerry, Count Chocula, Apple Jacks & Lucky Charms, of course. Remember, pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars and green clovers. I think there must be a dozen mash mellow shapes now.

    Cereal, always a crowd pleaser.

  18. lesley Says:

Honeycomb…we used to build sheet tents in the attic and eat our SEVERAL bowls of it in hiding.

  19. BarbH Says:

I’m with Denis - Cap’n Crunch for sure, but I’m also with “irock” - couldn’t stand mushy creal, which is the main reason I went for it!

    Next are:
Frosted Flakes (the more sugar the better…)
    Froot Loops
Sugar Crisp (Richard S, I do remember the Sugar Crisp bear - oh no, I’ll have that jingle stuck in my head all day - quick turn on 92.5!!!) LOL
hot oatmeal - but only like Janis says “with LOTS of brown sugar”

Richard - I’d forgotten all about Trix! I don’t know which I liked better, the cereal or the commercial - “silly rabbit, Trix are for kids” - I always felt so sorry for him because they never let him eat any Trix.

Thanks for the nostalgia fix, Samantha! Looks like you had a great time at your sister’s wedding, judging by the happy faces in the pic. You look great! You ate a dog biscuit??? Yuck!

  20. Antonietta (aka Toni the cookie lady) Says:

WOW - it’s been ages since I ate cereal for breakfast but my all time fave was Raisn Bran (I know, my mom couldn’t believe it either)

  21. Diane Says:

Hey Sam, Cereal and milk, still one of my favourite foods and I still go for the ones I liked as a kid…… Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops, Count Dracula, Frosted Flakes and Captain Crunch. Lucky Charms were my fav and still are and yes I still eat the marshmallows last!!!!

  22. Tiberius Says:

Gotta get a bunch of boxes of Peanut butter Cap’n Crunch every time I go over the border, and Frankenberry if I can find it too!
Loved IT!! And Apple jacks rock, but I had this thing for Crunchberry CAp’n Crunch, and my parents said Enuff sugar, so bought us puffed wheat. Still can’t look at the stuff.
Last one to have at home is Post Selects Cranberry Almond Crunch.
Gotta have a sensible choice in the cupboard, now don’t I?
    PLAY!

  23. Mistress Lisa Says:

I miss Pac Man cereal. Probably only available for a short time in the 80s but it lives on in my memory forever. Delicious crunchy corn-pop type cereal full of ghost and pac-man shaped marshmellows. The best!

Besides that, BooBerry & Frankenberry rule the house. Sadly not available in Canada anymore, but Walmarts south of the border still carry it! I like to bring back a box or two from any trip there…

  24. Jane Says:

My favorite has always been Lucky Charms…still is. I have cereal almost every morning but the new cereals they put out stays so hard that I have to leave it soak in the milk for a while until it softens. Yeah I’m weird, love the soggy stuff!! Porridge and cream of wheat are twoo of my favorites but not quite right in the summer heat.

  25. Lee Ann Says:

I did, and still do, love all the sugar cereals. Bad, bad, bad, I know…but I can’t help it. I’m with Janet on the Frankenberry cereal, loved Count Chocula too, and Lucky Charms, and Cap’n Crunch, although I don’t recall them being the equivalent of rocks as a kid…maybe that’s cuz I didn’t care. I probably scarfed them down too quick to notice!

As a matter of fact, I have AlphaBits & Sugarcrisp in my cupboard, as we speak. Blasted no Frills and their bargoons!

    Cheers,
    Lee Ann :D

  26. Lee Ann Says:

ps - oops, meant to also add, very nice pic!
    Lee Ann

  27. David Evans Says:

Honey Comb was my favorite with Fruit Loops being a good plan B.

  28. Linda Says:

    Hey Sam,
Something that isn’t made anymore. Coco Puffs. Sat morning at gramma’s. It was awesome.

  29. Nancy Says:

My fav “hands down” was Pop Tarts, especially the blueberry flavour!. Note:they’re still available. However, my Mother decided that sugary cerials and pastries were “no good”. So, every Saturday, bright and early,we would go grocery shopping and have our usual breakfast when we got home. The usual? A tray of Chocolate Brownies and Cheezies, my Mom’s “Breakfast of Champions!”.
    Those were the days…
    :)

  30. joe Says:

    Hi Sam:

You look great in that photo by the way.

I think way back when Captain Crunch was my favourite, i remember
they also used to put those little toy trucks in the boxes as well, those
were great to collect, couldn’t beat that plus the great taste of the
cereal also, It’s still a favourite today, as well as corn pops and reese’s
    puff’s.

    Take care

    Joe

  31. Janice Says:

Hi Sam: I just wanted to say how beautiful you look at your sister’s wedding. Your dress is lovely and you can even wear it again at some other function. It’s not like the old taffeta dresses that you wouldn’t be caught dead in again. Have a great day. Janice

  32. kath Says:

    everyone looks fab Sam!
thanks for sharing… we wont tell :-)

  33. April Says:

    Dear Sam.

We missed you, hope you enjoyed your time in Port Dover, I heard the motorcycles go through Brantford to get there!!

    LOUIE,

We’re so much alike as I love Cinnamon Life too and am a cereal junkie, but good kinds these days.

As a kid (not in any favorite order but remember these well):

    1) Captain Crunch
    2) Frosted Flakes (it was the taglines that got you as a kid, they’re GREAT!!)
    3) Sugar Crisp (can’t get enough of that sugar crisp, sugar crisp, sugar crisp)
    4) Lucky Charms (but don’t like them now)
    5) I think it was Count Chocula as I remember it being chocolate and the cover

BUT my Mom rarely let me eat these, as I was mostly raised on shredded wheat, porridge, cream of wheat, etc.

    April
BTW Sam, you look as beautiful as the bride!!!

  34. Dave Says:

    Hi Sam,

Capn Crunch and Fruit Loops were my favorites. Apple jack were good too.
I have high cholestrol so i’ve been eating oatmeal for the past 3 years and miss the days of sugar cereals!

Glad that you have a bunch of great friends. i went to Florida with 4 buddies i grew up with in grade school and we had such a good time that we have decided to make it an annual event.

    Have a great weekend.

  35. Rck Says:

Captain Crunch, without a doubt was my favourite cereal. You could soak it in milk and always stayed fresh and crunchy, and when the other snacks ran out you could of always count on Captain Crunch straight up right from the box. Sometimes breakfast the next morning was pretty skimpy though. Great Picture Sam, you LADIES look fantastic. Rick

  36. PaulB Says:

    Lucky Charms and Footy Loops

  37. PaulB Says:

    sorry, meant Fruity Loops….duh

  38. BarbH Says:

Linda - you reminded me of Coco Puffs - definitely one of my faves! Tiny little round cocoa balls that turned the milk chocolaty brown. Yum!

Man I miss all those tasty rot your teeth, raise your cholesterol, make you bounce off the walls heart-attack-in-a-box cereals…sigh. Still, I wonder what Cap’n Crunch would taste like after all these years…hmmm…

  39. RiffBoyRob Says:

    My fav - in order:
    Honeycomb ( I still use it a a snack food )
Cream of Wheat w/ Brown Sugar,Milk, & Toast (yummy !!)
