March of the Penguins…..in tuxedos….

penguin.jpg

My sis is getting married in a couple weekends.  Yesterday, we had a bridal shower for her…..it was kinda funny, she INSISTED….NO SHOWERS!!!  As we pulled into the driveway of the house it was held at she spotted the decorations and promptly called me an a$$hole…..funny stuff.  Totally ‘pantsed’ her.  In the end, she did enjoy herself.  Big sis knows best right?;)

Here’s what I’d like to ask of you.  She’s supposed to choose a couple of wedding songs.  My sis is not at all sentimental, or mushy, so this is an exercise she’s not impressed with.  She’s asked me to come up with some wedding song suggestions.  I’ll ask those of you who are married, what song(s) did you use?  Perhaps you’ve attended a wedding and thought ‘what a perfect song. I wish I would’ve chosen that one’.  Hit the comment button below and let me know what you think.

Dan, I can’t wait to hear yours…….

Use ‘penguin’ for some extra JN points.

 Thanks for stopping by!

Samantha

    Hi Samantha,

My wedding some was Art of Noise “Moments in Love” . It was very original and we don’t know anyone else that had/has used it to this day.

  2. Rose Says:

One of my wedding songs was Someone Like You by Van Morrison. It’s a great song.

  3. Jamie Says:

    Another one bites the dust.

  4. Radha Says:

    Hi
We got married last October, our song was “At Last” I thought it was a great choice.

    Hi Samantha,

After I kissed my lovely wife we had them play “It’s The End Of The World (As We Know It)” as a joke for our guests. It took a few seconds for it to click in but the place erupted once they caught on.

Our wedding dance song was “Lost Together” from Blue Rodeo.

    Have a great day.

  6. Jack Says:

    Hi Sam
Thanks for the points. The song by Frozen Ghost” Dream Come True “is one of the most played at a lot of weddings.I think she’ll like the words, simple and to the point.

    Cheers
    Jack

    HI SAM

  8. ROB Says:

HI SAM MY SONG WAS LOVE OF MY LIFE BY DAN HILL

  9. Sandy Says:

Hi Sam! When I got married almost 13 years ago, my first dance with my husband was Thank You by Led Zeppelin. It is not mushy and has a little rock. Our other song was Van Morrison’s Someone Like You. We had two songs so that we would have a dance before dinner and after dinner.

Bon Jovi also has some nice ones like Thank You for Loving Me and All About Lovin’ You.

Tell your sister to have a good time at her wedding as the day goes by so fast. Hope this helps.

    Sandy

    “A Whole New World”

  11. Doug Says:

    Hi Sam,

My wife and I danced our first dance to Somebody by Depeche Mode. The lyrics were perfect for us.

    Doug/

  12. JG Says:

Anyone else tired of sappy, traditional wedding songs? My wife and I chose “Karma Police” (Radiohead) for our first dance and “Taj Mahal” (Sam Roberts) for the dance with our parents.

  13. Claire Says:

    Hi Sam,

First time writing on your blog.

“These Are The Days”, by Van Morrison.

Sisters, eh? You gotta love them. I have two. They are also my best friends :)

    Happy Wedding!!!!!

  14. Jim Says:

Our wedding song was “When you say nothing at all” by Ronan Keating. Not exactly a Jack Nation song, but appropriate.

I wished we used “Beth” by KISS.

The song Beth is perfect because it basically tells the wife that I’ll be home when I’m done hanging out with the guys. and yet it’s disguised by being a slow mushy type song.

The last line goes like this

    “Beth, I know youre lonely
And I hope you’ll be alright
cause me and the boys will be playin’
    All night”

Of course your sis might not go for it, but maybe her groom would.

  17. Nancy Says:

Hi Sam. Long time, no speak! My husband & I went on our first date to see the movie “Stand by Me”, so we used that for our first dance (which was already 10 years ago). Our last song of the night was Shania Twain’s “From This Moment On”, which we thought was suitable. Hope your sister has a wonderful wedding day & that the weather cooperates!

  18. Rita Says:

Back in the 80’s but still a great tune, INXS’s “Never Tear Us Apart”!

  19. Diana Says:

    Hi Sam
Let’s see…..8 yrs ago and 6 months preggers… had to call the hubby to ask him if he remembered (OMG LOL)….Don Henley for sure, Taking you Home…more that likely.

Best wishes to your baby sis…..have a great time at the wedding!

    Diana

  20. Rita P Says:

    Hi Sam,

I got married last April. We had a hard time picking a song as well. We each like totally different music, however, we did agree on a song. “Thank you” by Led Zepplin, however, we chose the Duran Duran version of it. It’s a very nice song, but i never hear it on the radio..lol.

    Cheers, Rita

  21. Paul Says:

Can be used for many occasions-HIGHWAY TO HELL–( worked well for me )

  22. Fiona Says:

    Hey Sam!

We’re going to have “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” by KISS.

We found out in a discussion before we hooked up that that song was the definitive wedding song for both of us, so needless to say we’re now together.

And how can you say no to a gal who proposes on JACK FM, right?

Have a great day and may your sister be happy every day in her new life.

    Cheers,
    Fi :)

  23. Nan Says:

    Hiya Sam!

Actually we did what Rob did and played ACDC’s song “Highway to Hell” After the laughing stopped, we actually danced to Supertramp’s “The two of Us”

LOL Wow! Thanks for the memories……listening to that Supertramp now as I type.

  24. Elaine Says:

I’d go with - I KNEW THE BRIDE WHEN SHE USED TO ROCK N ROLL!

On another note - I’m looking for the name of a song and the artist. It’s a song that is used in one of your radio promos and I only have part of one line - “the girls and the boys in the…”???? Can you help me out on this? I know I’ll probably feel stupid when I hear the name of the song and the artist.

    Thanks a ton.

  25. Kim Says:

    Hi Sam,
We got married last summer and our song is “Pride & Joy” by Stevie Ray Vaughan. Though “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles was also a featured fav!
    Kim

  26. CathyB Says:

19 years ago we used ‘Glory of Love’ by Peter Cetera.

  27. Lee Ann Says:

Hey Sam, sounds like fun shower shenanigans!

There are a few songs I can think of:

-The Manhattan’s Shining Star (”Honey you are my shining star, don’t you go away”…)
-Van Morrison’s (or Rod Stewart’s) Have I Told You Lately?

And just for sh*ts & giggles later on in the evening, after everyone is liquored up:
-Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get it On, and Sexual Healing (nothing is more funny than watching half-*HIC*-pished rhythmically challenged people trying to get their groove on)

Congrats to your sister & her hubby to be and I’m glad the mother-ship is ok! Bless her. It is amazing how the tides change, huh?
    Lee Ann :)

  28. Col. Tom Says:

one of the most played wedding songs is “EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE” by the Police which is really strange cause the song is about a stalker!!

I think THANK YOU by Led Zeppelin is a great wedding song.

  29. PaulB Says:

    Mine was Journey’s Faithfully
Then the garter belt remove was done to Van Halen’s Everbody Wants Some - i dont think my father-in-law appreciated that one!

  30. Jim Says:

Why not Bohemian Rhapsody? (which is playing right now)

“Now I’ve gone and thrown it all away…” ” I sometimes wish I was never born at all….”

It works. It’s got all the ups and downs of a marriage. Listen to it again with wedding (or marriage) in mind. It will make you laugh.

and of course the whole part “let me go, let me go”,…… “just got to get right out of here….”

  31. Mimma Says:

Can you feel the love tonight - Elton John
It’ll bring tears to the eyes
    Cheers

  32. JODI Says:

Hii Sam….Our wedding song was Thank You by Led Zeppelin

  33. Lori Says:

The Wedding Song (There Is Love) Noel Paul Stookey.

  34. Jeri-Ann Says:

We didn’t actually have any dancing at our wedding, as we had a brunch reception. However, if we had picked out a wedding song, both of us liked “Never Tear us Apart” by INXS. Most of the songs our friends had picked were just a bit too sappy, or were by artists we didn’t like. I like Shania Twain’s “From this Moment” as that is how I felt about my hubby pretty much from the first time we met..

  35. Joe Says:

    311 - Love Song

  36. Lori Says:

The Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd, We used it for our wedding last May!!!

  37. Michael Stewart Says:

Hi Samantha my first choice is for humour AC/DC got you by the balls off the Razors Edge. But in reality I would pick Without You by Motley Crue.

  38. Dennis Says:

I spoke to you earlier about this song, now I’ll share it with your reading audience.

The Perfect song to play, just before they say their wedding vows.
“best of You” by foo fighters !!!

    Talk about second guess :P

  39. Denis Says:

A great one is True Companion by Mark Cohn

  40. Chris Says:

    Sarah Harmer’s “Open Window”

  42. Tiberius Says:

Hey Sam , Mailman Scott here.
When we did the deed in ‘04, we had All 4 One, and “I Swear”, done country a few years ago for the first dance.
    The words work.
Then the second dance was after a costume/dress change and a few toasts.
That was ‘Lady in red’, because she changed into the Party mode dress for the rest of the evening, then both of us did our own thing; me with Andrew Dice Clay and “If I Ain’t got you’ and her with a soca wine for the girls to get down and set the mood for the rest of the nite.
DAmn hot in that room after that.
    Hope it helps!
    PLAY!

  43. Tex Says:

Here’s a few love songs we played at our “country” themed wedding.

“I just fell in somethin’ and I sure hope it’s love”

“If my nose were full of nickles,I’d blow it all on you”

“Her teeth were stained, but her heart was pure”

And of course. the one that I chose for our first dance together and it still brings a tear to my eye……..

“There ain’t enough room in my fruit of the looms, to hold all my lovin’ for you”

  44. April Says:

    HI Sam,

I’m common law married, and engaged, so when the day comes when we do “tie the knot” being a over of Barbra Streisand, it will be either “People”,
“My Man (for him a dedication) or Rod Stewart “Have I Told You Lately” and a Van Morrison song whose title is evading me now!!

    Thanks,
    April

  45. Doc Says:

Ours was At Last by Etta James…..other good ones for wedding songs was Two by Ryan Adams (GREAT SONG) and Someone like you (Van Morrison)

  46. Rick Says:

    Hi Sam,
Lots of good responses, but I think you can’t go wrong with a classic - Beautiful by Gordon Lightfoot.

  47. Dave Says:

    Hi Sam,
How about I Don’t Want to Live Without You by Foreigner or I’ve Been Waiting For a Girl Like You also by Foreigner?

Congrats on your sister’s wedding too!

  48. Nancy Says:

I always loved “Lady” by Styx

  49. Jane Says:

30 years ago we used Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis. Still in love after all these years.

  50. Sergio Spadafora Says:

    Hi Sam,

We used “Just the way you are” by Billy Joel and it’s been lucky for 27 years so far.

    All the best

  51. Brian Says:

Dare I say this? The first song I played for my wife in the car on the way to the reception was “Forever and Ever, Amen” by Randy Travis. He was big at the time, 1987. It’s still a good song, goofy and cute but fun.

  52. Louise Says:

    Morning Samantha,
If ever I get married again, I would want “Here and0 Now” by Luther Vandross played at my reception. Or “From This Moment” by Shania Twain. These two songs always make me cry when I hear them. Sorry I’m a real sap for songs like this.

Hope everyone has a great time at the wedding.

    Louise

  53. Dancing Disco Dan Says:

I’m with a couple of the others here from Blue Rodeo. Lost together is perfect. Anything but that song “you take me up where eagles fly”I forget who sings it maybe some one from Cream. You could not go to a wedding from1986 to 98 without that being played.

    DDD

    Congrats on your sister’s wedding.

  54. geoff Says:

we used bridge over troubled water and a whiter shade of pale guess that kind of ages me??

  55. Colleen Says:

    can’t go wrong with the 80s ballads…

    “Open Arms” by Journey
“Dream Come True” by Frozen Ghost
anything by Air Supply (seriously, ppl make fun, but the lyrics are so romantic… then again, good luck getting ANY groom to agree to that)
if she wants to go old school,
“Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” by the Platters. It’s a classic.
    -Colleen

  56. Luke Says:

Hi Sam, we used City of Blinding Lights by U2 for the wedding song and Thank You , Zeppelin for the father/daughter song.. all went great. Good blog, great show! Keep up the good tunes!

  57. sallyc Says:

I’ve always wanted to use “The Power of Love” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Great romantic song, need to make sure the DJ gets the right one though. and not one of the other two horribly sappy songs with the same title (i.e. the Celine Dion one). Haven’t used it yet, but who knows, one day I might get to dance to it…(sob)

  58. MommyPie Says:

Your The Inspiration by Chicago was the song we chose for our wedding song.
It’ll be 17 years in November

  59. irock Says:

    Hey Sam;

Tied the knot in ‘94 - Aerosmith’s Angel was our first dance song. I think the last song was Dream On….

  60. Krista Says:

“Let me be the one” - Rik Emmett - simple and subtle
