Cameos…..

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

alice.jpgAfter all the chatter about the Muppet Show, we were talking about tv cameos here.  The list we want to compile for the tv countdown is called ‘Top 5 Rockstar TV Cameos’….Alice Cooper on The Muppets is where that idea came from.  What were/are your fave rockstar tv cameos?

The TV countdown will be of interest to REM fans….we’ve got tix to give away with the show on Saturday.  It’s on City TV at 4pm.

Enjoy the sun if you can today…..check out this email….funny:

Hi Sam. I was listening to your show at work today. Like I do every day when I’m working in range of your station. I work in construction and run heavy equipment. Anyway, I had broken my machine at work and I got to go home early today. The whole point of this email? The song that had just started playing when I noticed something wrong? “Another One Bites The Dust”. Thanks for the day off. lol. See ya on the radio…

Dear J…..How about I play ‘Lager and Ale’ for you tomorrow?:)

Use the word ‘cameo’ for some extra JN points.

muppets.jpgI’m in the process of collecting some audio for the Jack Nation Countdown this weekend.  I don’t have the top 20 yet, but, I usually try to work a little ahead with it all.  If you have yet to hear it, I always run a theme within the countdown.  Last weekend it was ‘Hot Rock Stars’….literally, we included stories of rock stars who had been hurt through the use of pyrotechniques in shows…..we’ve covered ‘Songs with f-bombs’ and all kinds of fun stuff.  This weekend, we’re going to revisit one of my fave all time shows.  The Muppets.  I’m setting a couple of links here on the page to youtube for you to check out.  Gawd…..I still get such a kick out of them:)  Did you?  Who was your favorite guest?  Alice Cooper?  Anne Murray? Paul Simon?  Kenny Rogers?  The guest line up they had over the years was crazy stacked…..between Sesame Street and The Muppets, you as an entertainer, knew you had made it if you appeared on either show.

March of the Penguins…..in tuxedos….

My sis is getting married in a couple weekends.  Yesterday, we had a bridal shower for her…..it was kinda funny, she INSISTED….NO SHOWERS!!!  As we pulled into the driveway of the house it was held at she spotted the decorations and promptly called me an a$$hole…..funny stuff.  Totally ‘pantsed’ her.  In the end, she did enjoy herself.  Big sis knows best right?;)

Here’s what I’d like to ask of you.  She’s supposed to choose a couple of wedding songs.  My sis is not at all sentimental, or mushy, so this is an exercise she’s not impressed with.  She’s asked me to come up with some wedding song suggestions.  I’ll ask those of you who are married, what song(s) did you use?  Perhaps you’ve attended a wedding and thought ‘what a perfect song. I wish I would’ve chosen that one’.  Hit the comment button below and let me know what you think.

Dan, I can’t wait to hear yours…….

Sunny Saturdays……

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Good Morning!

If you were listening yesterday and awaiting ’sexy bingo’….it didn’t happen.  I had to leave unexpectedly at noon…the Mothership thought it would be a good idea to need a ride in an ambulance to the nearest hospital.  She’s okay after a little scare.  Who knew Parents could be so much work;)  I guess it’s payback time……have you experienced that stuff yet?

The ’sexy bingo’ number is B9.  Use a capital B and you’ll have no problems.  I’m listening to the radio version of the Jack Nation Countdown right now.  The bonus code for that one is ‘burn’.  This week, we covered hot rock stars…..literally…..stories of rockers who have had accidents with pyrotechnics.  Yes, we included Michael Jackson and the famous Pepsi commercial burn.  We didn’t though, play any MJ.  We opted for an Alien Ant Farm cover of one of his songs….Smooth Criminal.  Lots of other cool extras in the countdown this week.

I’m out…..I have a bike that needs a wash…..and I need a ride.  On that note, we will broadcast live for the day from Port Dover on Friday the 13th.  I’ll give you more details as we get closer to the date……should be great fun.

Have a lovely weekend.  Thanks for stopping by!

Mmmmmarlies…….

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

marlies.jpgLast night we went to see the Marlies play at the Ricoh Coliseum.  The Chicago Wolves were in town and the hockey was really good….the not so good part, Chicago won.  I was surprised at the lack of attendance….it seemed odd, cheap beer, great arena, affordable seats…..what’s the problem?  Must be true that this is just a ‘Leaf’s town’ and not a ‘hockey town’.  Odd.  The only part that sucked…..it was so friggin’ cold in the arena, I had to buy a fleece….A 74 DOLLAR FLEECE…..granted, it’s nice and will get worn.  That was my solution to making it seem more like a Leaf game…..I just had to add a zero to the money I planned to spend.

Earlier today during the show, we spoke about a pensioner in London, England who was driving his neighbours nutty.  He was playing a specific song super loud in the wee hours of the morning.  He’s 61 and had to appear in court for his naughty-neighbourness.  He’s been banned from playing loud music for three weeks.  Enter the last name of the artist he was blaring and score some JN points.

This person is serious???

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I’d like you to see an email that I received this past Thursday.  I’m removing the name and company to protect the ‘not-so-innocent’……I’m really not even sure what to say except…I hope you were able to leave work early, hit a patio and ‘cheers’ your friends for NOT having this person as a manager.  If you do, I invite you to listen on your own time.  We understand.  Please feel free to post a comment…maybe your friends work for this person?? send’em the link.

Have a lovely, safe long weekend!

Use ‘grinch’ as an extra bonus code.

 Hello,

As a listener, who also is in a management position at work, I for one would appreciate it if perhaps you didn’t encourage people to take time off during good weather, or play hookie from work for personal pleasurable reasons. etc.  Many employees seem to need no reason whatsoever to do as little as possible as it is and need no encouragement in that area. This past winter every time it snowed, and it did often, people couldn’t make it out of their driveways or there was a blizzard on their street, and planned ahead of time, based on weather forecasts not to come to work, to call in sick when not sick. This is taking a salary under false pretenses.

All businesses need at least a minimum staff to keep operating, at a profit, in order to succeed. If staff doesn’t show up, business is lost, profits are down, or non-existent, the business could fail, and the employees would have no jobs.  A job is a commitment on both sides. Employees are given their rightful legal holidays, as well as paid holidays during the year, and take time as well.

If you continue to encourage playing hookie, we’ll have to disallow your station to be played in the office in favour of another station that does not practice this, which would be a shame because we do enjoy the music you play.

Thanks for listening.

Top 5 Long Weekend Sayings

1. Hold my beer, watch this….

2. Who touched the inside of the tent??

3. Anyone seen the marshmallows?

4. Where’s the bug spray?

5. What time is the beer store open until?

Lawn darts, horseshoes, blackflies, hang-overs, opening the pool, planting the garden, making the trek to the cottage….what are your plans for the weekend?  My Brother-In-Law’s birthday is this time of year, so the Sunday of this long weekend always means a bbq with all the usual suspects.  I’ve included a high school pic of Trev and Cherie at the top of my blog here.  Nice mullet Trev.  Happy Birthday!

Codes….

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

This past weekend the Jack Nation Countdown was pre-empted…..with good reason.  It usually runs at 4pm on Saturdays.  City TV was running a telethon to raise money for the survivors of the catastrophic cyclone that hit Myanmar last week.  Their government says teh official death toll is somewhere around 33 000 people.  The UN believes 100 000 is more likely the actual number.  Between that and the giant quake in China and the thousands dead there, rising gas prices don’t seem nearly as important, do they?

The bonus code from the tv show was ‘ORIOLES’, like the ball team…we have a chance for you to win Jay’s tix for the Jays vs Baltimore game…..that code is also worth 1000 points.  Good luck and make sure to enter it before Friday night at midnight:)

Good luck with the two second tuesday clip if you’re playing along today!!

Enjoy the beautiful day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Flashback….

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I hope you enjoyed your weekend….4 more days and we get a long one!!!  The unofficial start to summer….flowers will be planted, pools will be opened, blackflies will bite and you could take 9 friends to a Firkin for a patio party.  All the deets are on the draw page of this site…..

Yesterday say Mother’s Day come and go…..made me think of a tv show that was on during the 80’s….Just Like Mom…have you seen it?  The Bake-off was the best part.  The kids, 4 contestants, had to try to follow a recipe….I say try to follow loosely.  The show also provided ingredients that you would never want to see added to baking, mustard, ketchup and the like.  Just enough to make things really gross.  The Mom’s had to sample the baking and guess which belonged to their offspring.  Most times the kids figured the grosser, the better…..I loved watching the Mom’s sample all that ick:)  Here’s a little clip I found on Youtube:
