Top 5 lists…..

Okay, turn the clock back to the 80’s….if yours goes that far:)  What clothing item did you have to have??  We’re compiling another top 5 list for the tv countdown.  80’s rock clothing….

*fringed leather jacket??

*anything with chains or studs??

*acid wash anything…..(kinda funny when you see people wearing that stuff now isn’t it?)

*mullets…..I know it’s not clothing.  I just wanted to add mullets so I could put this link on for you.  You may have already visited this site….

www.ratemymullet.com  If you’re offended by f-bombs or the like, don’t visit the site….

Thanks for stopping by!!  You guessed it….mullet….is a bonus code.

Have a great night!

Sam

….while we’re at it, I’m preparing the radio countdown for this coming weekend.  I’m going to add some classic 80’s tunes.  What do you want to hear?  Just don’t suggest stuff you hear all the time on the radio….deal?  I want to add some cool, older, not often heard stuff…..White Lion….Slik Toxic…..and before you get too weird or indie, remember, we have to be able to find it somewhere…..how about GnR’s ‘Mr. Brownstone’…..now that is a wicked song.  I just may have to add that one as my fave.  Hit the ‘comment’ button and let me know……thanks:)

    80’s rock clothing….
    Went to the local Towers dept. store and stole a cheap jean jacket, metal stud kit and some dog chains, went to the local flea market and got a bunch of rock n’ roll badges; ripped off the sleeves and broke out the sewing kit from mom’s room, and made the best RnR vest ever seen in my grade 8 class! With a Steely Dan t-shirt under it and a pack of Camels in my rolled up shirt sleeve, and the longest hair allowed by parental law; ( around 2 inches below my shoulder ) I had the look going on big time.
    I think I still have it somewhere around here…Lemme look under my old green McDonald’s uniform and see if it’s still here….

  18. Amanda Hawe Says:

    I had the Don Johnson outfit down to a tee(no pun intended) although I went with a pale yellow Tee instead of a pale pink most times. Include a mullet in that look and i was rockin. I think I spent every weekend Fri-Sun downtown in the clubs. Everyone says the 80’s sucked but I have some great memories. Thx for the trip down memory lane Sam

  27. April Says:

    OH Sam,

    The wonderful FUN eighties when I was bartending in my hometown of Montreal. The songs I remember BIG time as I used to request them from our D.J. was by Chaka Khan, “I Feel For You” and BIG TIME THEN was Montreal’s own “Corey Hart” and everyone was wearing “Sunglasses at Night” (even me while bartending in the dark, pretty hard until our eyes got used to it!!) Lest we not forget a HUGE band called “TEARS FOR FEARS” who actually came in to our bar and didn’t think that we would know who their band was (as I asked him what he did for a living) and my bestfriend and I had just seen them in concert a few weeek earlier.

    As for clothes, my customers used to tell me they loved it because I always had a different look everytime they saw me, because so many things were in then. YES, BIG SHOULDER PADS WERE DEFINITELY IN, and any faded denim and jean jackets especially. Bright colors like fuschia pink, I even had a NICE leather coat in that color (and still do in storage). Anything in leather was fashionable too!! Fedora’s and cowboy hats and even silk scarves as partial head coverings!! I could go on and on but won’t as there are a lot of fans that want to write in too!! Thanks for bringing me back to the best time in my life!!!

    A Big Fan,
    April

    Hi Sam:

    My 4 year old daughter’s school is having 80’s day on Monday. All of the above are great ideas for me to incorporate in her outfit.

    I was thinking about the “Frankie says RELAX” t-shirt or the leopard print spandex pants with the mesh shirt. (I think that’s what I was wearing at my 16th birthday).

    Songs:
    Love song - Tesla
    Metal Queen - Lee Aaron
    Follow Your Heart - Triumph
    Live Wire - Motley Crue
    2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden
    Only Time Will Tell - Asia

  40. Stephen Dilworth Says:

    Hi Sam,

    Here is somoething for you, this might be late 70’s early 80’s, but here you go…The black leather high heel boots the guys use to wear with the zipper down the side of the boot…How cool were they! Of course now I look back and think — what was I thinking?

    Have a great one!

  42. Pam Says:

    Hi Sam,
    Two 80’s bands I can think of.. Teenage Head + The Cars.

  43. Scott Says:

    How about Devo’s Whip It ?

  44. Mike Spencer Says:

    When you’re talking 80’s hair bands, you have to include Cinderella songs like ‘Don’t know what you got’ or ‘Somebody Save Me’
    Billy Squier’s ‘In The Dark’ is another suggestion that you don’t hear very often.

    Great idea Sam!

    Mike

    Queen of Spades-Styx
    Blue Collar Man-Styx

    My usual look in the 80’s was cowboy boots or biker boots with the metal toe caps and chains, bandanas, crucifix earring (left ear of course)-everything had to be black.

  58. Denise Says:

    Try finding Thunder ‘n Rock by Fist.

    Have fun!

  59. Derek Stanley Says:

    I can’t believe that nobody has mentioned these things yet:

    - girls wearing 1 sequined glove;
    - girls attaching raccoon tails to thier purses;
    - 3/4 sleeve shirts;
    - black & white rock flags to hang on the wall;

    REMEMBER THOSE? Man I miss the 80’s. The only thing I have today is a nice 3/4 sleeve Iron Maiden concert shirt. Don’t know where all the rock flags went (I think my Mom threw them out).

    As for music - any Twisted Sister (saw them at the Danforth Music Hall), or Quiet Riot (saw them at The Docks) will do.

    In the early 80’s, we used to walk up & down Yonge Street (Dundas to College) on Fridays & Saturday nights, blaring AC/DC on a ghetto blaster. And Yonge Street was PACKED with cars cruising, bumper to bumper. Mostly Mustangs. There was no rap or anything like that. Only rock. And everybody who passed us told us to turn it up. Anyone remember that?

    LONG LIVE ROCK!!!

  60. April Says:

    Hey Lee Ann,

    Cheers to your pink leather jacket too!!!!! I bought mine at Danier’s. I actually went crazy for a few years and bought 7 leather jackets, 5 from Danier’s and they have different types of leather. My pink and turquoise jackets are of the very HIGH quality leather (very smooth, soft and supple.)

    More music I thought of from the 80’s that I loved was:

    Mike and the Mechanics - In the Livin’ Years
    Luba (female artist from Montreal)
    Loverboy (another great Canadian band)
    Gowan (same as above, Canadian)

    Hey Sam, an idea for a future show. Something to do with who we think are the best Canadian musicians are, as we sure have come A LONG WAY AND HAVE MAJOR TALENT IN THIS COUNTRY, don’t you agree? We just need to have better agents (obviously) so that our music is played on the radio stations in the U.S. and that way we’ll get better coverage!!

    Have a great weekend Sam and a great show!! Same to all my fellow bloggers!!

  61. Lee Ann Says:

    April, my pink leather jacket sista - that’s awesome! :D It’s one of those things that I will never part with!

    Cheers to you and yours as well!
    L. A.
