A special Top 5 List….

On this Saturday’s edition of the Jack Nation Countdown (the TV version), we’d like to know what you consider to be Jeff Healey’s fave song of yours.

Hit the comment button and send your suggestions through.  We’ll send the list over to the tv folks and add it to the show as our own little tribute to Jeff Healey.  We, like everyone else were really saddened to hear of his passing earlier this week.  Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
Thanks for your time.

Sam

  11. Dave Mundy Says:

Covers aren’t often better than the original, especially when the original was done by the Beatles. And if the Beatles had some help from Eric Clapton, well how could the cover succeed. Jeff’s version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is simply pure magic.

  12. Danny Dean Says:

While Jeff has left us a solid catalog of work artistically, one of my personal favorites is a cover version that he did of a Mark Knofler song, entitled “I think I love you too much”.

It’s hard to beat the combination of the songwriting skill of Mark and the musical genius of Jeff.

    Thanks.

    Danny

Dear Samantha - I had the privilege of knowing Jeff Healy for a short time. My husband became good friends with him about 6 years ago. We attended his wedding to Christie and spent New Years Eve together at his club that same year, and on several other occasions. He always had a “smile” on his face, and never made you feel uncomfortable around him, a very personable man. My sons (both in their early 20’s) were in total “awe” when they met him, but he made them feel like he was just another guy. That was the beauty of him, simple, sincere humility - he was only a man too, they were his equal. WOW!
I attended his funeral this week. It was a bittersweet goodbye to a wonderful person. He was a musical genius - and a really nice guy - how often do you get that combination?? He was truly humble and didn’t even realize his own “greatness”. He overcame huge obstacles to make something out of his life, and at a really young age - I admired the man. He actually “LIVED LIFE”. He packed 82 years into the 41 that he was given. He will be greatly missed. My heart and thoughts go out to Christie and their young son, also his first wife and his daughter, and the rest of his immediate family. God Bless “Angel Eyes”. I’m really hoping to hear his version of “WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS” this weekend - it’s amazing!! That song kept playing itself in my head as I watched his casket go by at the funeral. I know that he was ready to meet his maker.
    With Love
Judi, Randy, Paul & Adam Barber

I was both shock & saddened when I heard the news of Jeff’s passing. I was fortunate enough to see him open for Bon Jovi at Maple Leaf Gardens many years ago & was blown away by his talent. My favourite song then & still to this day is “Angel Eyes” - just always something about it that made me feel good.

  45. Craig Miller Says:

The easy answer (I think) is Angel Eyes. But he also does a GREAT version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Great song and he makes it his own.

I had the pleasure of catching Jeff at Ontario Place years ago when he wasn’t as well known (Amanda Marshall opened). I was amazed what this man could do with a guitar. Thank you for what you gave us, Jeff!!

  46. Jen Says:

My #1 Jeff Healy song is “Angel Eyes” although “My Guitar Gently Weeps” is a close second

  51. Steve Says:

Quite some time ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff….
Probably in & around 1980, across from the Gasworks on Yonge St. was a place upstairs called “The Upper Lip” which ran an open jam on Sunday nights. It was run by David Baccha (ex of the Silver Bullet Band) and later by Gino Scarpelli (ex of Goddo). I was taking my turn on stage when Chris Bouchard (then of Platinum Artists - a local booking agent) walked in with a young blind man who he escorted to the stage. We spoke briefly as he sat down & cradled a guitar on his lap. (I had never seen anything like this before & wasn’t sure how it was going to play out). Rapped a bit about what to play and came up with the J.J. Cale version of Cocaine. Wellllll, I became a believer right away when as we were trading off solos, Jeff just burst into high gear. (Really blew me away!) I became a fan right from that moment & I still am one. I hadn’t really thought about how many years ago that was until I heard of his passing. As a musician and as a Canadian, he really has shown the world what a talent he was. (If I’m not mistaken, he should also be credited with the “discovery” of Amanda Marshall as he was the first that I know of to really put her into the spotlight.)

I see that no one has mentioned this one yet, so my favorite would be “Confidence Man”

Rest in Peace, Jeff Healey (you will be truly missed)

  52. Hedgehog69 Says:

Sam how about little sister with Stevie Ray Vaughn

  53. Neil Zeidenberg Says:

    Hi Sam,
Back in ‘91 I met the drummer from Cats Can Fly (do you remember him?). He was signed by Jeff’s management company and was helping him produce his solo album. Red tape and the like led to him abandoning his plans. Anyway, Eddie gave me some cool Jeff Healey Band stuff (guitar picks and a Jeff Healey shirt…which unfortunately I don’t know where the picks went).
Anyway, I loved Angel Eyes as do most people and How Long Can A Man Be Strong.

Heard you talkin’ bout songs with swear words. Some of my favourites are by Everlast and Joe Walsh I.L.B.T. which they never play due to the lyrical content.
    Thanks Sam! Keep rockin’.

Angel Eyes and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

  61. Donald Says:

I know its long since been over, but one of my favourites has always been “I wish that I were twins” (which I think was a remake). Can’t listen to that song and not think fondly about the one you love. His rendition of “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” was excellent.

I am shamed to say I have never heard “Angel Eyes” before. I’ll have to buy his CD.

My girlfriend and I were brokenhearted to hear of his passing. To say he’ll be missed is a true understatement.
