Hamilton Haircut…..

Friday, November 30th, 2007

nicemullet.jpg

Nice hair Trev…..that’s my bro-in-law and his sis Cheri.  It’s a ‘picture of a picture’.  I took it at their parents home during one of our family gatherings.  That’s a really great mullet.  I’ve been threatening to use this at work for some time now.  Now seems appropriate.  Everyone has a hairstyle they’re not proud of.  I’ll look to see if I can find an example of one of mine.  I looked like I was in a personal competition with Bon Jovi or Whitesnake.  I had big, ass crazy rocker hair.  We were thinking under the current climate of Hamilton bashing that we could rename the mullet….for one weekend only…..’The Hamilton Haircut’…..it won’t be an expression as of Monday ( I promise Hamilton, it’s good natured teasing)…..hey, I’m grom Guelph, I’ve been taking it all my life;)

hamiltonhaircut is worth 100 Jack Nation Points.

The deadline for winning one of the six Hyundai’s we have is 11:59 Sunday night, as is the Jack FM Bon Jovi ‘Rocktail’ party.

Jeff Chalmers will be at the Hide House (King and Spadina) on Saturday from Noon till 4.  Go see him to score 2500 Jack Nation points….and while you’re there, check out Enzo’s feet….seriously, ask him what size they are……

Have a terrific weekend…..don’t forget the Jack Nation Countdown.  It runs Sat morning at 8, Sat night at 10 and Sunday evening at 6.  There’s a 1000 point bonus code in it, but, since you’ve taken the time to read this far, it’s ‘golddigger’.  Go win something awesome with it:)

See ya on the radio……

Paul from Hamilton checks in……

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Thanks for stopping by to read my blog….today….I’m handing it off to Paul from Hamilton.  In case you’ve missed it, we’ve spent a bit of time ‘hacking’ on The Hammer.  Springsteen is set to play a show at Copps Coliseum on March 3rd, 2008.  Our promo for the show, and the tickets we have, is based upon picking on Hamilton.  Some folks have taken exception to all of this.  Paul gets it and we’re glad.  Thanks for taking the time to send this in Paul.  It’s appreciated.  Let me preface this by telling you Paul’s grammar was correct before I cut and pasted his email…..so the missing indents, commas et al are my fault….I’m still working on figuring out this blog stuff……Sam

Hey Sam,

Well, I live and grew up in Hamilton.  The problem here is that like usual, most Torontonians have NO CLUE or knowledge of anything outside of the GTA.  Call it self-centered, or oblivious to the rest of the world or whatever, but like every other city in Ontario (including Toronto), they have good areas and bad areas.  Most Torontonians judge Hamilton  from what they see while driving over the Skyway on the QEW going to the USA – and yes that is the heart of the industry area which is gross, dirty and the roughest part of the city.  The ones that actual venture into Hamilton for an event like the Springsteen concert only see the downtown core which is probably the second worst area of the city.  But what about on the mountain or Hessvillage, or Flamborough, or Dundas, or Westdale, or Ancaster…….(if you are reading this and don’t know where ALL these places are, you are proving my point).  Toronto has some really “scary” sections too – Jane/Finch, anywhere under the gardener, the east side industrial waste lands, portions of Etobicoke, portions of Scarborough.  In regards to the one-way streets comments, this just proves my point again; they change most of those years ago!   Did you know that if you go back on the history of Hamilton and Toronto, that Hamilton was the original point of settlement for people due to the habour off of Lake Ontario.  Hamilton was before Toronto.  Because of these first settlements, most industry was built close to where people lived – Hamilton.  As these settlements grew and prospered, good economics  help grow the population more and more which led to the development and growth of
Toronto.  So if it wasn’t for Hamilton, they very well may not have ever been a
Toronto.  So don’t judge a book by it’s cover.  Don’t leave shelter lives, get out and discover your province or country for that matter and it’s wonderful history.

Lastly, please don’t get me wrong, I think the promo spot is classic and very funny.  Just like we make jokes about the Maple Laughs, the Blow Jays, The Purple Dinos, the squeegee kids, the street people, or all the shootings etc. – it is just in jest – laugh a little people and if you’re from Hamilton, for the sake of your sister Gina, try to get the joke!

Cheers, I have to get back to my Lakeport now.

 Paul

Let’s say we use ’steeltown’ as a Jack Nation bonus code today, it’s worth 100 points…..thanks for stopping by……see ya on the radio….Sam

tbp2.JPGThis past Grey Cup weekend was too much fun….it started out Friday night.  We hosted a Grey Cup party with the Trailer Park Boys at the Metro Convention Centre.  Wow, what a GIANT place that is.  Lots of Jack Nation members on hand….it was great meeting you guys….Thornley, Hinder, Mobile and The Roadhammers were all on the bill.  We had a blast.  Carly and Larissa were there as well…..I’ve posted a pic or two from the night.

Fffffriday!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

myass.jpgCold enough for ya?  ha!  I wanted to be the first person to say that to you….how many times do you hear that in a winter season?:)  According to the forecast, Grey Cup Sunday will be ‘meh’…at this point they’re calling for 5 and clouds…..Not a big deal when it’s indoors at the Rogers Centre.  Should be fun, even though the Argos aren’t in.  I was really happy to hear that the whole ‘Pinball stepping down’ was a nasty rumour….he’s such a great addition to the fabric of our city, Grey Cup or not.

So, Grey Cup is totally sold out….it’s so much fun, all those people, all that beer:)  I wish I was going.  Not sure where we’re going to watch the game just yet.  We’ll see how the rest of the weekend washes out.  I may be wiped and want to do it from my couch….probably not though…..have fun where ever you watch the game from.

I’ve been to Grey Cup once…..in Edmonton….it was sooooo cold…..Commonwealth Stadium…….but, so much fun.  Have a great time if you are going.

I’ll be on location on Saturday if you are out and feel like visiting.  We’re at Uptown Communications in Fairview Mall.  It’s a Rogers Wireless store.  It’s on the second floor, close to the Bay.  We’ll be giving out bonus codes for Jack Nation points.  The Jack Nation Countdown will have a code too…..it might be the word ‘undercover’…..I’m just sayin’ is all:)

Jeff Chalmers and I are in a race to get the most blog hits on this page.  It’s a friendly little competition, so, thanks for visiting my blog.

I hope you have a terrific weekend.

See ya on the radio….

Snow Day…..

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

I think we as adults, should take snow days like we did when we were kids….the stipulation being, you have to spend the day as you did when you were a kid…..skating or on a sled, maybe making $ shovelling driveways….however you spent your day….do you recall your fave tobogganing hill?  Every neighbourhood had one…..even if you lived in Winnipeg:)  Ours was ‘Gordon’s Hill’.  It was on the farm property belonging to Mr. Gordon….it looked so big and ominous as kids, such a far climb back up after a crazy ride down the hill.  The only obstacles were the fence at the bottom of the hill.  If you hit the fence you were AWESOME!!  The other obstacle, the frozen cow crap.  Big, frozen, ass-bumping obstacles.  On a crazy carpet, you knew when you found one…..I miss snow days…..

Good luck with the Princess Margaret Cash and Cars Lottery Ticket Blowout. Here are all the codes I had, these are good until midnight tonight.  We’ll post the winners names on the website by 10 am tomorrow….I’ll give you the codes under one condition….if you win a hot car, you have to take me for a ride..deal?

 9am - cash

10am - cars

11am - princessmargaret

12pm - bigben

1pm - montreal

2pm - millionaire

Carly has the balance of the codes on her blog…..good luck….I hope it’s your name I’m reading on the air tomorrow!!!

Have a great evening!

Grey Matter…..

hudson1.jpgrick.jpghalfshot.jpgroadhouse.jpg

Arrived home late last night from a terrific weekend in Calgary…..my flight was delayed on the way home, something I never plan for…considering I had booked a late flight coming home….just trying to squeeze all I could out of my weekend.  Makes for a long Monday.  Could also be the sucky weather.  This grey stuff doesn’t do much to make one feel great…. onto another Grey matter…..the Grey Cup.  How disappointing that the Argos won’t be a part fo the cup.  I’m sure no one’s more disappointed than Pinball and the guys, though.  So, Bombers and Riders it is.  I’m looking forward to the weekend regardless.  One of my best friends will be arriving Friday for the weekend.  I think we’ll bring him to our pre-party on Friday night.  We were running a draw through Jack Nation to see Hinder and Thornley this coming Friday night.  It’s all part of the Grey Cup pre-party stuff that’s going on in the city….congrats to you if you scored tix, we’ll see you there.

The pics that are posted on the top of this entry are both from Saturday night.  I haven’t downloaded any of my photos yet, so, I’ll see what else I have later.  The cute little guy in my lap is the main reason I went to Calgary, we had a baby-dunkin’ yesterday…it was ‘Hudson’s’ Baptism ceremony….he belongs to one of my closest friends.  The butt shot is just to make the owner of that squirm, plus, it’s a good ass.  The two guys in the Flames shirts are a couple of staples in the Calgary Club scene.  They’re both dj’s in the city.  I’ve worked numerous clubs over the years with both of them.  The Roadhouse Calgary is where they work now…..never a dull moment at that club.  Since I was last out to visit, the bar has installed stripper poles around the club….yeah….seems to be a popular past time…..

Use the word ‘calgary’ for 100 Jack Nation points.  The code will be good until 8:59 tomorrow morning…..
Thanks for stopping by to visit….

Have a great Monday!!
Sam

hidehouse1.jpgThis past weekend Jack Fm was live on location with Jeff Chalmers at The Hide House in Acton…..have you been?  Wow….the smell is so good it almost knocks you over….all that leather in one place….mmmmmmm…….I haven’t been there in such a long time.  The furniture is crazy cool too…..I swear, when I walked in the store, I heard my Visa whimper in the bottom of my purse…..the pics above are from the Hide House broadcast.  From l-r, that’s Joanne (awesome promo girl), myself, Jeff Chalmers and Enzo (awesome promo guy).

Ever do this?  Visit a store, see an item and then regret not purchasing it?  I tend to do that from time to time, as I get older though,  it seems any semblance of frugality I may have possessed has disappeared…..I kept thinking about  a particular jacket I tried on at the Hide House a week before our broadcast….and yes, I went back to buy it…..

enzosam1.jpg

That’s Enzo with me in the pic….and a very shy little boy:)  That’s my nephew Mitch.  A half hour later, he was ‘laying the beats’ on Enzo….you know how they are….

Thanks for visiting my page and reading my shopping story….such a girl eh:? :)

Here’s a bonus code for you: coat (worth 100 Jack Nation points)

 Have a terrific day!
Sam

9am - points

10am - earn

11am - prize

12pm - bonus

1pm- rock

Carly will have the balance on her blog….make sure you grab them all….there are so many great shows upcoming that you may want to spend the points on.  Make sure you enter the Bon Jovi/Casey’s Rocktail  party that’s set for December 6th….I’m hosting it and would love for you to come and hang.  We’re having dinner and drinks before the show.

I’m off to record some stuff in another studio, so, we’ll have to get caught up in the next day or so. I’m waiting for some pics from the weekend to arrive so I can post them for you.  It was fantastic meeting some of you at the Hide House Tent Sale in Acton.

Hinder’s coming in for an interview tomorrow at some point.  I don’t think we’ll run it for a few days, but, I’ll let you know when it’s a go……have a terrific night!
