Flashback….

May 12th, 2008 by sstevens

I hope you enjoyed your weekend….4 more days and we get a long one!!!  The unofficial start to summer….flowers will be planted, pools will be opened, blackflies will bite and you could take 9 friends to a Firkin for a patio party.  All the deets are on the draw page of this site…..

Yesterday say Mother’s Day come and go…..made me think of a tv show that was on during the 80’s….Just Like Mom…have you seen it?  The Bake-off was the best part.  The kids, 4 contestants, had to try to follow a recipe….I say try to follow loosely.  The show also provided ingredients that you would never want to see added to baking, mustard, ketchup and the like.  Just enough to make things really gross.  The Mom’s had to sample the baking and guess which belonged to their offspring.  Most times the kids figured the grosser, the better…..I loved watching the Mom’s sample all that ick:)  Here’s a little clip I found on Youtube:

Use ‘bakeoff’ as a bonus code!

Yay for Fridays!!

May 9th, 2008 by sstevens

This week has blown by….last night we were out at Absolute Comedy.  It on Yonge just north of Eg, where the old Yuk Yuk’s used to be…..I forgot how much fun it is to watch stand-up.  If you’re looking for a fun, inexpensive night out, absolutecomedy.ca

Are you a movie-goer?  Are there any big summer flicks you’re looking forward to seeing?  Iron Man….The Hulk…..Speed Racer?  I’m compiling a list to send over to the tv folks for the Jack Nation countdown on Saturday.  Lemme know what you think.

We’ll be out on location this weekend on two occasions.  Tonight, I’ll be at Cellcom in the Erin Mills Town Centre from 6 -9pm.  Tomorrow, I’m at Sherway Gardens from 11-3 at another Cellcom location.  If you’ve been waiting to upgrade or get a new Blackberry or similar device, there should be some great deals on, so tune in to see.  If you get a chance, pop by, we’re giving out bonus codes and we also have a draw for a stay at Taboo resort.

Don’t forget it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday…..it’s not the gift that’s difficult to get or decide upon…it’s the friggin’ cards!  Especially. if you leave it too long and their all picked over and messed up in the little card holder thingamajigs.  Use the word ‘card’ as a bonus code at some point over the weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day!!

 Thanks for stopping by!

A great reason to run……

May 5th, 2008 by sstevens

Hi Samantha,

Kelly has mentioned your name to me a few times in our training sessions on Saturday mornings.  It is great to finally get a chance to tell you about Sophie’s Run (www.sophiesrun.ca).  Sophie’s Run is an awareness campaign for Colorectal Cancer.  I lost my mom, Sophie Chuchmach, to this disease in September of 2006.  During my mom’s illness, I became her primary caregiver.  As a way to cope with my grief, I began to run.  Running became my release and today it plays an instrumental role in my healing process.  As I try to come to terms with the loss of my mom, I have made it my mission to spare other’s of the pain my family and I went through.  Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in our country and the numbers will continue to rise if awareness and education is not created.  For this event, I have partnered with the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada.  On September 1, 2008, myself and the Sophie’s Run team (3 other runners) will leave Milton, ON and run to New York City over 8 weeks.  I am hoping that you may be interested in helping to raise awareness for Sophie’s Run and Colorectal Cancer.
Thank you,
Nicole Chuchmach

What a lovely way to honor someone’s memory…quite the endeavour.  Good luck to you and your companions, Nicole.  We’ll be cheering for you!

Use ’sophiesrun’ for some extra JN points, and visit the site if you get a chance.

Thanks for stopping by.

An email from a dear friend…..

May 2nd, 2008 by sstevens

billito.jpgHey babe!
So how’s ewe? I was reading you blog and noticed that folks are starting to realize that you ride.  well here’s a story that might be blog worthy.  Please edit at will, and there is a part where I need input……

Samantha, what can I say….. All I remember is that here was this sheepish little girl, looking at her boots, ( yes, heels even then, kids) outside a motorcycle dealership in Calgary looking to buy a motorcycle.  We got to talking, she told me what she wanted, I advised her on her options, and then she went in and bought something too small.  “Too small?” you ask?  No, not in stature, but in power.  She had made the classic mistake of thinking she would not take to this sport and got herself a “learner” sport-bike, a piddley little Kawasaki Ninja (if I can use that term here, considering the displacement) 250.  Yes folks, a 250.  Which she promptly BLEW UP.  Ooos and Awws ensued, until the dealer finally decided to give the Loud Girl associated with local radio a credit on perhaps a larger displacement machine.  Which just so happened to be………..(  insert bike here, I forget…..).  Many weeks of joyful riding went buy until she saw what she knew she always wanted, her true love.  A Real SPORTSBIKE!  A suzuki GSX-FRICKIN-R600, cheep! in the bike trader!  Joy of Joys!  Well, we went and looked at that badboy and she needed to have it (at this point in her life, Sam was quite single……).  So she ponies up the cash, gets her new baby and she and I promptly get on with teaching her how to do wheelies.  Note to the reader, Big sexy boots with Heels are not really the best things to pull big monos with……. just saying….  Anyhoo, I doubt that she was ever into big one wheel action (insert your own joke here) but I know that she loved FAST.  Just ask the Calgary cops, I know we got pulled WAY more times than we got tagged.  Good thing she had a cute smile, I blame it on her.

Oh yea, Sam, If you ever get back in this end of the country, I think I owe you a rear tire and possibly a drink…. or twelve…….

Your buddy, pal. compadre,
Bill
aka Dizzy

…….ah Billito….how I miss you guys…..I loooove your new bike…..that is my dream ride……maybe next season….use Billito as a bonus code for this weekend.

I won’t be updating my blog this weekend….I’m leaving for Halifax this afternoon.  Have a terrific weekend!

Summer jobs….

April 25th, 2008 by sstevens

Remember when this time of year meant it was ‘time to start looking for work’?  Ahhh, the summer job….what did you do as a student?

I did landscaping at a golf course in Burlington for 2 of the years I was in college…..I also cleaned houses….guilty confession…I cleaned a woman’s toilet with her toothbrush….once.  She was such an uppity snippy Beeotch to myself and the ladies I worked with.  Be nice to the hired help;)

How about an ‘Awesome Summer Job’?  I’m compiling a list for tomorrow’s tv show.  The Jack Nation Countdown runs Saturday afternoon at 4pm.  How about ‘beer taste tester’?  ‘Ice cream quality control’?  What would your ‘awesome summer job’ be?

*Traveling motorcycle tv show? ( I know a girl…nudge;)

*Bikini Inspector

*Roller Coaster tester

*Personal Shopper

*Bee Keeper (seriously, someone, somewhere wants to do this)

What would you choose to do, given carte blanche?

Use ’summerjob’ for some extra points:)

Thanks for stopping by,

Sam

……..if you missed the countdown this weekend the bonus code was rollercoaster.  The bonus code for the tv version was priest.  The Metal Masters tour is coming to the Ampitheatre August 13th….on the bill, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Testament and Heaven and Hell.  The priest bonus code is worth points, but, also is an entry for tix to see that show….AND….soon, we’ll have tix for the Jack presents of ‘Cruefest’….Motley Crue, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Trapt and Sixx AM are all on the bill.  That will be a wicked day.  The date of that show is August 28th.

I hope you had a terrific weekend.  Two second Tuesdays are back this week…..wait till you hear who you can see and where….it’s the best one so far……

More of your rides….look at her go……

April 21st, 2008 by sstevens

anissa5.JPGHey Sam,

I listen to you every day and had taken note that you ride.  For the longest time I pondered what type of bike you ride and decided to visit your blog to see.  I thought “she’s gotta ride a sport bike of some sort.”  And so, my suspicions were confirmed.  To ride a Gixxer (sorry - can’t tell the displacement from the pic), you must be a woman who loves speed and cornering.  So my question to you:  Have you ever taken it to the track?  Or, have you considered taking it to the track?

There are several women from Ontario and Quebec who race in the Women’s Cup Challenge - a motorcycle roadracing series that only us gals compete in.  It would be awesome for you to come out and visit us this year.  Who knows?  You may (hopefully) get the itch to join us. :)

For more information, the official website for the WCC is www.womenscup.ca.  Here is a pic of me last year on my SV650.

And btw, I love listening to your show.  You really are the best DJ on 925 JACK FM!

Have a good one,

Anissa

Brampton, ON

Thanks for your email, Anissa.  That’s a cool shot….

I have done track days in the past and loved it.  I’d suggest it anyone who likes to ride….

History was made over the weekend.  Danica Patrick won her first IndyCar race yesterday at the Indy Japan 300…..wicked….she’s 26, hot, smart and outrunnin’ the boys….Anissa, I think the two of you may have lots to chat about given the opportunity.

Use ‘fast’ for some extra Jack Nation points.  Thanks for stopping by!….and codes from this past weekend….’tourbus’ and ‘royals’.  The first is from the Jack Nation Countdown heard on the radio.  The second code is from the television version of the countdown….Saturdays at 4pm on City TV

Check this out…

megs-bus.jpg Hi Samantha,

Thought you’d get a kick out of my favorite thing to drive in the summer months. It’s my 1968 Bluebird schoolbus R/V. It looks a little like a bus from Tiajuana Mexico at the moment but I’m forever hopeful that it will receive a new paintjob in the near future. The inside has beds, seats, a table, stove, sink, cupboards and closets. I often think I will try to write in to some of those make-over TV shows to get my bus PIMPED -OUT but until then I’ll be happy in my hippie bus.

Megan Phillips

Hey Megan, thanks…..and, if the ttc go on strike, you may get a call;)

Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend…..

If you missed the Friday afternoon code, it was ‘twisttop’.  That code is good until midnight tonight.

 Thanks for stopping by!

Top 5 movie or tv cars….

April 16th, 2008 by sstevens

images.jpgIf you had your choice of any vehicle used in a movie or television show…..which one would it be?  The General Lee?  Remember the Jeep Daisy Duke drove?  How about the Starsky and Hutch Torino….how about the gas mileage on that beast nowadays?  What car would you like to own?……at least for the weekend:)

Use ‘batmobile’ to score some extra points.

Back to your rides….

April 15th, 2008 by sstevens

mattsjeep1.JPG

Back to your rides……and the nice weather it seems…..I’ve officially ‘broken up’ with Environment Canada and am now dating The Weather Network.  They seem to have a forecast I’m more interested in believing:)

The picture above is Matt’s jeep….I think Matt’s part of that club of Jeep owner who like to say, “it’s a jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand”…..thanks for your pic, Matt.  If the forecast (my bf’s forecast) is correct, you’ll be losing the top and the doors this weekend….here’s hoping:)

Use the word ‘jeep’ as a bonus code for some extra points.

Good luck with Two Second Tuesday, don’t forget to enter your answer before midnight tonight.

Thanks for stopping by!
