Stuck in an Elevator

April 28th, 2008 by rob.michaels

We’ve all gotten into an elevator and thought to ourselves, or out loud…”Imagine if this thing breaks down?” Well I came across a story in which a guy was trapped in an elevator for 41 hours before being rescued…heck before anyone even knew he was in there.  Yes, there were security cameras set up in the elevator, but I guess people weren’t paying enough attention to notice a man in there.  He said he could hear people from time to time walking by, but nobody seemed to acknowledge he was stuck.  Check out this video…

In other news…Gold Diggers, the goldmine has been updated with some great stuff so go check it out and stayed tuned in exactly 1 week for a Mountain FM’s biggest Adventure Getaway EVER!!!  You need some points so go put in the word BIG for some points to help you in the Gold Mine!!

Email Signature

So I got an email a few weeks ago and it had this very cool signatureemail.JPG
What a great idea so I decided to add it to my signature on all of my outgoing mail from work and my personal addres!!
It’s quite easy to get on your signature too, just follow these instructions from google…

To add this to your emails you’ll first need to setup a HTML signature (Google can help you out on how to do that), then to add the following to it :

<font color=”#006600″ face=”Webdings” size=”+3″>P</font><font color=”#006600″> <strong>Please consider the environment before printing this email.</strong></font>

Earth Day is TODAY!

April 22nd, 2008 by rob.michaels

Alright so you want to be more green, but you don’t know where to start.  You already recycle, but is that enough?  Well every little bit counts, however it doesn’t hurt to do little things like lowering your thermostat or unplugging seldom-used appliances.  Maybe you bought an Energy Star-qualified commercial dishwasher and are saving an estimated $200 per year, according to the Department of Energy. Those that took home an Energy Star refrigerator can look forward to a 15% less expensive monthly electricity bill.

So I thought one way that you could start to be more green is to find out how non-green you are.  What is your carbon footprint?  Quickly calculate your carbon footprint, or the amount of greenhouse gases in units of carbon dioxide, you’re producing by using the following formula:

A.) Multiply your monthly electricity bill by 105

B.) Multiply your monthly gas bill by 105

C.) Multiply your monthly oil bill by 113

(if you don’t use either B or C, enter 0.)

D.) Multiply total yearly mileage by .79

E.) Multiply the number of flights–4 hours or less–by 1,100

F.) Multiply the number of flights–4 hours or more–by 4,400

G.) Do you recycle newspaper? If no, add 184. If yes, add 0.

H.) Do you recycle aluminum and tin? If no, add 166. If yes, add 0.

A+B+C+D+E+F+G+H = your carbon footprint. A number below 6,000 (reflected in pounds per year) is excellent. Over 22,000? Not so great. Good is anywhere from 6,000 to 15,999, while 16,000 to 22,000 is average.

If your number is higher than you would like, there’s good news–there are hundreds of ways you can shrink your carbon footprint, and many of them aren’t as sacrificial as you might expect.

What is your carbon footprint?  Figure it out

Hey, sorry I haven’t been posting anything lately.  On Wednesday afternoon I picked up my parents at YVR and have been touring them around Squamish.  They were only here once before about 4 years for a quick visit and GOSH everything has changed so much that it’s like showing them everything all over again.  Either that or their memory is slipping a little…which it probably is…love you mom.  Anyways this afternoon the tour consists of a trip to Whistler to catch the hoopla of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.  Then tomorrow we’re heading to Vancouver Island for the weekend, a place they have never been to before.  I’m hoping the weather is nice, but we’ll see.

It’s always nice to see the parental units as I only get to see them once or twice a year!  Hey don’t forget that Tuesday is Earth Day and check your emails this weekend for the newsletter for weekend points.  AND listen Monday morning at 7:15am for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!YAHOOOO
mommy and daddy will get you some points today in the goldmine!

Earth Day Update

April 15th, 2008 by rob.michaels

Earth Day is coming up one week from today and I want to know what you are doing to help save our environment.  Leave a comment or call me during the morning show at 1-800-668-1550.  I would love to share and hear your stories about how you are making our world a better place to live!  Give me a shout or leave me a comment below because all this week we’re going to discuss the little things that can make a world of difference!
Here are a few little tips to keep in mind as we gear up for Earth Day

  • Plant a tree that will shade your house as well as reduce the need for air conditioning.
  • Participate in your community’s recycling program and recycle all you can.
  • Combine short car trips, or use a bicycle or walk instead.
  • Improve your home’s energy efficiency by adding insulation and caulking, and regularly cleaning heating and air conditioning filters.
  • Compost yard trimmings and food waste in a backyard compost bin. Don’t bag grass clippings - either leave them on the lawn or compost them.
  • When buying paint, cleaners or other chemicals, buy only what you need and use what you buy.
  • Practice water conservation - install a low flow shower head or make an Earth Day pledge to take shorter showers.
  • Use compact fluorescent lights to conserve up to 75 percent of the energy consumed by incandescent bulbs.
  • Purchase durable goods and choose products made with recycled materials and with minimal or recyclable packaging.
  • Reduce the amount of unwanted junk mail - have your name removed from mailing lists.
  • Earth Day is a bonus code that will be good until April 25th!!!! Do your part and be green

    Denny’s RECAP :: UPDATE

    April 10th, 2008 by rob.michaels

Ok, so one of my first blogs found here, was about Denny’s taking away my Mini Burgers from their menu.  I went to Denny’s, tried to get some Mini Burgs however much to my surprise, they were taken off the menu.  As a fan of said lunch, dinner and/or breakfast, I decided to email Denny’s….This is what I wrote.
Picture this…A batter at the plate, full count, bottom of the ninth. One solo home run would ensure the batter and his team victory. He steps up and swings at a quick fastball. You hear the crack of the bat as the ball raises high into the sky, then all of a sudden, the tv station your watching cuts away to an Oprah promo. Just as he was about to hit the homerun, the tv station cuts to something else.

This is how I feel about the absence of the Mini Burgers at Denny’s. Once a week I would stop at Denny’s and enjoy a miniature burger topped with nothing but mustard and onions.Oh did I mention those are my 2 favorite condiments? Just as I was starting to create a following of other mini burg enthusiasts, you took them away. Why? I went to Denny’s in January looking to sit down and enjoy numerous burgers, however I had to try and enjoy one singular burger…the horror.

I looked around for Ashton Kutcher, I thought perhaps there was a camera crew around each corner just waiting to bust out and tell me I was being punked. All I want to know is why…why have you taken my mini burgers away? Will they be back? I really look forward to your reply!

Kind regards…but kinder if I could taste one more mini burger,
    Rob

And for those of you who are fans of the Mini Burgers from Denny’s, I finally got a reply almost 2 months later, I got a response!  This was the response…
Thank you for contacting Denny’s.  From time to time the menu will be changed to introduce new entrées on our menu for our customers to enjoy.  I’m sorry that one of your favorites is no longer available.  This entrée may return to the menu at a later time.

Your comments have been documented and forwarded to the appropriate department for review.  We appreciate your feedback and look forward to serving you again real soon!

I guess I don’t really need the greasy, fattening mini burgers, but while my metabolism is at a steady high level, all I want is to experience one last Denny’s mini burger…please!  No games in the blog today, here is our bonus code straight up…Denny’s

    Family Guy…A-Ha
