Hero or Zero?
Today was the big day, Mats Sundin announced that he will not be waiving his no trade clause. Basically from what I gather he’s being seen as a hero for the Toronto franchise saying “He can’t leave his teamates mid season to join another team” How noble! Gimme a break…to me if the guy really cared about hockey in Toronto he would’ve said “Sure, trade my ass and get the best possible players to help re build a team that’s been in need of it for about 4 years now” Instead he decided that he wanted to retire in Toronto. What makes me laugh most is the idea that he “talked with friends and family” which to me reads like..”my wife doesn’t want to move and what she says goes!”
Any player asked to give up their no trade clause I think they should say yes. Why would you want to stay somewhere that you’re not really wanted? (Wade?)
On a positive note here in Ottawa we can look forward to not meeting the Leafs in the post season until Mats retires. What other talent have they got that they can trade in order to re build? Raycroft? He’s worth perhaps a dozen pucks and a used roll of tape!

Sundin is an overated has been. Sure he looks good playing for the Leafs, but that’s because they don’t have anybody else with talent. Just my opinion though.

Mats would seem to be a traitor to the team he professes to love by not waiving his clause, because now they’ll get nothing. He isn’t married (but has a regular missus), so I don’t know if he’s as henpecked as you suggest, Robin. He IS a very big fish in a small Toronto pond (how easy is it to look like a star on that team right now?), and I had heard that most of the teams who wanted him for the remainder of this season also wanted him for next season - which he wasn’t interested in.
I’d say Cliffy is pissed. What a deal he could have made!

Mr. Harper, you had better get out from behind that mike and don your goaltending equipment. If you expect the “Sens” to get past the first round. You’re “Sens” have no goaltending or goaltending instructors.Plus their GM & Coach have no brains, they have let the rest of the team and the fans down. BYE,BYE “SENS!!!

maybe if they (JFjr) had approached the subject with him earlier about the possibility waiving the no trade clause he might have waived it but no….. another fine move by JFjr. BTW what the heck was he doing on the trade desk yesterday????

if anyone on leafs had the right to refuse to be traded it is sundin ,sure we could have gotten some good
talent for him ,but lets not forget he’s not the one who’s messed up the team , that falls on the past gm’s
and the ownership shoulders and it’s not fair to put it on sundin to save the team’s future ,lets remember
how many times he’s carried the team and the numbers he’s put up even with with sub par help, how many
times he has played hurt or came back early than expected from injury to help the team , so get off his case
and maybe you could concentrate on the trouble your sens are in , i was at the monday night leaf game and
i was amazed how many “sens fans” left after the 2nd period ,i guess some “sens fans” are only fans when
the are playing well , you can say what you like about us leaf fans , but we support our team ,even when
we are having another bad season , we can still 1/2 fill your building with leaf fans

You know how it goes…if they somehow crawl back up into 8th and actually make the playoffs, he’s the greatest hero in Leafs history. If they bomb out, he’s a jerk.
Ah, the fickle fans….

atleast we have heroes and a history , either way he will be one of the great leaf players , and to see fickle
fans look at the exit doors at scotia bank place any time after the 2nd period
