Worst Pot Hole in Town

pothole.jpg

Last weekend 17 teams were sent out to fix potholes. When it snows the crews have to work on snow removal but they’ll be sent back out again when the roads are dry. There are some doozies in town that’s for sure. I’m wondering where you think the worst pothole in Ottawa is. My vote is the corner of Bank and Walkley. It’s not so much just the one pothole but the series of them that you just can’t seem to avoid!

(thanks to all who commented. I’ve sent out your bonus codes!)

There is a series of potholes in the left lane going west on Heron under the overpasses by Revenue Canada at almost every sewer grate.

  3. slippy Says:

Carling turning into westgate shopping centre has a real nasty one.

  4. cinder1960 Says:

there are a series of them on the 174 heading west, hard to miss them all

  5. senssuck Says:

nope go to conway in nepean it’s really deep I’m considering putting a fence around it and having a pool on the street this summer.

  6. jack Says:

HWY just into or out of Carleton Place at McNeilly Ave

  7. James St. John Says:

Potholes are a problem for those that drive, but I am blind and have to depend on my “Seeing Eye Dog”, to find the best path. I want to leep going and falling is never pert of my daily ambitions.

  8. Linda Says:

what i find just as aggravating as the potholes, that, to tell the truth, have been pretty much cleared up in the areas I drive in now, are the bloody sewers that they have put in about every 2 feet from each other that are so deep they may as well be a pothole…

  9. KIm Says:

The overpass on Hawthorne heading towards Walkley is one big series of potholes that you can’t avoid.
They were there last winter and they patched them up and they’re back again this winter better(worse) than ever.

  10. Marc Says:

Bronson has a few good ones, as well as Albion Road just as you turn to the South from Lester.

  11. Claude Says:

Montreal road from the Vanier Parkway to Rideau Street has a few. Be careful, if you hit of these, it will certainly cost you a wheel alignment.

  12. Sue Says:

KIng Edward going to Gatineau has a few in the right lane.

  13. Kay Says:

    The worst are in Nepean!

  14. Stilgar Says:

    Leitrim & Limebank roads.

  15. carole Says:

Try the eastbound 174 between Eagleson & Moodie .

  16. jc Says:

Whatever happened to the new tar-rubber compound ( which costs almost triple the price of tar )
we were supposed to be using . I think we’ve been had again .

  17. Harry Says:

Going East bound from the eagleson entrance, there are really bad holes/potholes on the right lane between Eagleson and Moody. You literally hit a hole or crack every 5 feet. If you want to keep your suspension intact, just drive on the Fast lane.

  18. K Says:

    Nepean

  19. Beeky B Says:

There’s string of potholes on the Queensway from on-ramp at Eagleson/March to Moodie - the road is really cracking-up with the construction to widen the 417.
Another set of potholes is on Eastbound Hunt Club between 416 and Greenbank in left-hand lane at each water grate

  20. Patrick Kilmartin Says:

As you’re coming off the eastbound offramp @ Vanier Pkwy, if you’re on the inside lane turning north on to the Vanier Pkwy there is a jarring pothole right beside a sewer grate that can shake your kidneys pretty damn good.

There not exactly potholes but Carling Ave westbound between the top of the hill untill the new pavement they laid down last summer is like driving over railroad tracks every 20ft.

Basically the entire city is one big pothole this winter. I’m a courier and have been for 18 years, this is the worst I have ever seen at this time of year, EVER!

  21. Mike Says:

    Montreal Road

  22. Donna Says:

Take a look at the bridge at Lees and Chapel. There’s a line of holes from one end of the bridge to the other side. I don’t know about you guys but a holy bridge can’t be good thing.

  23. Mansel Says:

the 417 east around moodie dr.

  24. Minuit83 Says:

I agree KIng Edward going to Gatineau

  25. Peter Says:

    maple grove near the Sensplex

  26. Diane Says:

I don’t know how you can complain about the roads in Ottawa, come over to the Quebec side anyday and you’ll find the worst roads in the country any time of year!

  27. Jason Says:

While I would say Bank Street is getting pretty bad from the village of Metcalfe all the way into Billing’s Bridge, what I really wanted to say is the biggest pothole in this city is under Ottawa City Hall. I wish that sink hole would swallow up a few of the politicians that just don’t get what’s good for this city and only care about making quick, uninformed decisions on the likes of the parking rate increase without thinking what kind of damage would be done to our local businesses. It’s not as if they would take any of that money earned from parking and spend it on fixing roads anyway.

  28. Marilyn Says:

I have to agree with some of the other pothole finders on here that the 417 eastbound between Eagleson & Moodie in the rights hand lane where they have a seam in the road because of construction, it is getting very nasty.

  29. G Says:

There’s a good one on the 417 onramp when heading North on Woodroffe or Maitland, I forget which!

  30. Sherry Says:

I have to agree with you Robin, Bank and Walkley is the worst. Just about every part of Bank St. has some bad potholes that you can’t miss!!

  31. Lise Says:

Small street in Nepean called Liveoak. It was a sink hole last year that was filled in but it is reappearing

  32. Pierre Martin Says:

On Hawthorne & Walkley, as you turn onto Walkley goin east.

  33. Scott Slater Says:

There’s a section of March Rd at the Queensway that has a bunch of little potholes but there are some many its hard to avoid all of them.

  34. tom Says:

worst pot hole WAS definately on hemlock between st. laurent and aviation. It was 5 feet long, 3 feet deep (i actually measured) and somehow i managed to hit it! my Caliber has been vibrating ever since…but my girlfriend doesnt seem to mind. i say it was the worst pot hole because i think a crew must have fixed it, i couldnt see it today…but i didnt see it the first time :(

oh and there is a good 4 foot deep sink hole across the entire road on via venus in the base by NRC montreal road

  35. D Says:

I agree with the Carling Avenue votes as well as at the corner of Courtwood and Woodward. It is actually a sewer cover but the area around has sunk. The City hasn’t bothered filling it, they just put a pylon over the top to keep the traffic away.

  36. Bob Meloche Says:

Likely any neighbourhood still under new home development as at Stittsville Main and Horseshoe Cres.
Any repairs are simply flushed out with the next rock laden dump truck that passes.

  37. Bruce Says:

The worst one I have seen lately is in the right lane southbound on Smyth. Right at the hospital.

  38. Dale Says:

    March Rd near the Queensway

  39. sophie Says:

    yes ,
Just hit a good bump on Bank near the construction.

  40. LD Says:

Amen Jason “biggest pothole in this city is under Ottawa City Hall” I agree.

  41. deborah Says:

biggest pothead in ottawa, errrrr that would be crazy mike

  42. jagger Says:

Entering the right-hand turn lane on Hawthorne Rd. to turn right onto Walkey Rd. Yikes! Has a series of potholes have you to engae into a obstacle driving course.

  43. murray Says:

you want to see potholes, you should drive the section of county rd 30 south of st bernidine. my purolator truck feel like its coming apart at the seams. not fun at all

  44. Mike Says:

try the obstacle course on the Queensway at 120kmh, east or west, go ahead I dare ya

    ;-(

  45. David Says:

There is a section along Manotick Station rd that knocked out all the rustthat was holding my bucket of bolts together. Please send a key instead of a code so I can win the Vegas 8 Ball :-).

  46. B Says:

It doesn’t look like much of a pothole but wow, if you are on a ParaTranspo bus and you are turning onto Lola off Coventry road, right in front of Canadian Tire, the bus swings so bad, it is like being in a boat on the water in a storm.

  47. Joe Says:

Hawthorne northbound, south of Walkley. The right turn lane is one long continuous string of potholes. You can’t avoid them no matter how hard you try.

  48. TheFishnPole Says:

Carling Ave.. poing east past Kirkwood.. lotsa nasty ones.
