Many of us have attended weddings for friends and families over the years and some us have even been asked to M-C the event.

I’ve done several of them myself but I can honestly say I have never had to marry a couple before …. that was until this past Saturday.

My niece Ashley and her husband Ted Darling were ready to walk down the aisle at Churchill’s in North Bay …the only problem was, no Minister.

About 25-minutes after the ceremony was supposed to start … Ashley asked me if I would pinch-hit since she had a copy of the vows they were going to read.

I said sure … and off we went to the front of the hall.   15 or so minutes later the ceremony, complete with the ring exchange and vows were done and they were married…well not legally but everyone at the hall had a chance to see the ceremony they came to see.

The Minister did arrive later … thinking the wedding was at 6:00 not 4:00 so they were able to sign the proper papers and make it legal.

It did make for a memorable afternoon for everyone involved and spurred several one liners later during my emceeing portion of the wedding.
