Summer’s Here - Who Let The Dogs Out?!

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Welcome to the 1st full week of summer! Soon the kids ‘ll be out of school and hangin’ around at your place.

Bored already? Need a distraction?

Are you tired of walking your dog? Here’s a way for your dog to get exercise all by his-or-herself:

(I know. Oprah has a skateboarding dog on her show this week. But this one’s kinda cool. There’s steering happening!)

Amazing Music On Glass!

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

One of the cool videos making the rounds in cyberspace is a guy on rollerblades who makes music on bottles with his feet. It really has to be seen to be understood. Here he is on The Late Show with David Letterman:

There are all kinds of Glass Harp Artists out there. (Some very cool renditions of the Harry Potter theme too that are worth looking up.) A listener e-mailed me the video of this fellow. His work on glass is very smooth:

Happy Father’s Day!!

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Here’s some quick advice (John Tesh-Type Intelligence) for all the dads that will apply on Father’s Day… and on any other day of the year for that matter:

1. Get someone to hold the ladder for you.

2. Read the instructions.  (No really, you’ll thank me…READ the instructions.)

3. Open the lid BEFORE lighting the propane barbeque.

4. Look surprised if you receive another cordless drill. (Dave Lindsay tells me you can never have enough cordless drills around the house!)

And finally….and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL…

5. Never ever dance in front of your kids’ friends.

Enjoy your day!  (And hopefully, a few hours of quality time with your family.)

The 2008 Relay For Life - $430,000 Raised!!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

How do you put into words the kind of emotions that thousands go through during the Relay for Life? I just wanted to let everyone know that it was an honour again this year, to be asked to host the Luminary Ceremony.

Despite the heavy rain early in the evening, it was amazing to see thousands of candles shining brightly, while hundreds of participants continued to circle the track at Laurentian University.

During that quiet time after 10, I was able to share an excerpt from a poem by Carol Dunn:

It’s just one tiny candle, one tiny flickering light,

A challenge to the darkness, a small beacon in the night,

It could be a gentle touch, a reminder that you’re there,

Or a warm compassionate hug, to show you understand and care.

Sometimes…it only takes your smile, to encourage and uplift,

And should that smile lead to laughter, you’ve shared a precious gift.

There’s comfort in shared silence, or in a softly spoken word,

Or in taking time to listen, to feelings that must be heard.

Just one tiny candle at a time, each one giving from its heart,

Reaching out to those nearby, asking them to do their part,

To make sure the light keeps growing, reaching out to those in sorrow,

Offering comfort, warmth, and hope…strength and courage for tomorrow.

Look Up …Look Way Up

You won’t find Rusty …(Friendly Giant Joke) but you might see the International Space Station.

Thanks to Dave Lindsay for pointing this one out to us.  NASA has a website that will allow you to find out when the I-S-S is flying over your city.

All you do is go to this website then follow “Sighting Opportunities.”

Good luck star gazing …I mean space station gazing.
