A Great Getaway

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

What a difference a week off can make.  If only the alarm didn’t go off at 4 am Monday.
We kicked off the holidays with a trip to Barrie where my middle guy Nick took part in the Super Elite Football Camp at Georgian College.  He got a chance to rub elbows with CFLers like Jesse Lumsen of Hamilton, Saskatchewan’s Tristan Clovis and Canadian MVP at the Grey Cup Andy Fantuz.

My wife, Janice and I and youngest Braeden stayed at Carriage Hills Resort, just north of Barrie.  It’s a gorgeous resort with plenty of walking trails and things to do.

The weather was a bit cool and speaking of cool they had an indoor - outdoor pool complete with hot tubs.

Also got some gardening and yard work done along with the switchover from winter to summer….ahh spring clothing.

Rich and Gary’s Caddy…

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Thursday, May 22nd, Gary and I are golfing (LOL!) at Timberwolf.  Its the NHL Legends of the Game Golf Classic on behalf of the Human League.  Congrats go out to EZ Rock Platinum VIP, May Beech, who will be joining our EZ Rock Team, and hopefully, is ready to offer up some great golfing pointers. Thanks to all the EZ Rock VIP’s who entered to win a day of golf with us.

In case you’re wondering, here’s how the day will go…… if we have a caddy:

Rich ”Think I’m going to drown myself in the lake.”
Caddy “Think you can keep your head down that long?”

Gary “I’d move heaven and earth to break 100 on this course.”
Caddy “Try heaven, you’ve already moved most of the earth.”

Rich ”Do you think my game is improving?”
Caddy “Yes sir, you miss the ball much closer now.”

Gary “Do you think I can get there with a 5 iron?”
Caddy “Eventually.”

Rich ”You’ve got to be the worst caddy in the world.”
Caddy “I don’t think so sir. That would be too much of a
coincidence.”

Gary “Please stop checking your watch all the time.
It’s too much of a distraction.”
Caddy “It’s not a watch - it’s a compass.”

Rich ”How do you like my game?”
Caddy “Very good sir, but personally, I prefer golf.”

Gary “Do you think it’s a sin to play on Sunday?”
Caddy “The way you play, sir, it’s a sin on any day.”

Rich ”This is the worst course I’ve ever played on.”
Caddy “This isn’t the golf course. We left that an hour ago.”

# 1 Best Caddy Comment
Rich or Gary ”That can’t be my ball, it’s too old.”
Caddy “It’s been a long time since we teed off, sir.”

Thankful My Car Runs On Gas…

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Today, at noon, at least one gas station on Paris Street was preparing us for summer gas prices:  $1.32 per litre. (That’s over $5 per gallon)

Do you get the feeling that one day, we’ll look back to the days of $1.50 per litre and think, “Wow, what a deal!!”

If you’re feeling the pinch of high gas prices, be glad your car doesn’t run on Nyquil.  :-)

Check out this list of what some other ‘everyday liquids’ cost:

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 … $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ……….$9. 52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ….. $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ……… $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 …… $33.60 per gallon

Vick’s Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 … $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ……. . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 …..$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER…

Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don’t even know the source

(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?

So they have you on the hook for the ink!

Someone calculated the cost of the ink at…….. (you won’t believe it….but it is true…….. )

$5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)

So, the next time you’re at the pump,be glad your car doesn’t run on water, Scope, or Whiteout,  Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or God forbid, Printer Ink!

Just a little humour to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump…

‘Sudbury Rocks!’ for Diabetes: $51,000 Raised!

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Over 1,400 took part! Runners from all over Ontario and the States were there. Lots of families in Sudbury are making it an early May tradition. There were people of all ages involved, moms and dads with their little ones in strollers…even some pets ran the 1, 5 and 10K!

The Sudbury Rocks! Race, Run and Walk for Diabetes was a great success on Sunday, May 4th, and plans are already coming together for next year.

The EZ Rock Morning Show sends out a heart-felt ’thanks’ to all the volunteers, the Diabetes Association, the City of Greater Sudbury and our Police Department for making it all ’run’ smoothly. :-)

As for the Rogers Radio team, ….well…..sometimes rounding up media types to be in a road race is like trying to corral a group of baby ducks. But, Angela Gemmill kept us all in line. Here’s a wrap up from Angela:

As a team we raised just over $810, this includes both individual pledges and all the proceeds from our bake sale and raffle. Since many of you around the building supported us financially, we all want to send out a huge ‘thank you’.

Organizers said they raised a total of $51,000 this year, which is 15-thousand more than last year.

As far as race results: Leda MacLeod was the fastest on our team; with Mike Allard the fastest from the celebrity participants (although Randy Pascal from Channel 10 totally left the rest of us in his dust!!). This was the first 5K race for some of our team members and they all did wonderfully.

We all had fun and represented Rogers Radio Sudbury well. Perhaps next year we can convince more of you to join us.

Again thank you for your support,
