Just a spoonful of peace
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008Modern-day Earth mama Maggie Gyllenhaal spread a message of peace, love and ice cream at a bed-in at Ben and Jerry’s in Times Square. The “Stranger Than Fiction” actress hosted the event, which paid homage to John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s week-long bed-in for peace in 1969 and celebrated the launch of a new B&J flavour — a Lennon tribute called Imagine Whirled Peace.
Though they didn’t spend a week in bed, Gyllehaal, B&J co-founder Jerry Greenfield and other activists spent the rest of the day cruising around the city in a bed enclosed in a glass vehicle.
Each pint of Imagine Whirled Peace has the official seal of approval from Yoko Ono and the John Lennon Estate, and bears a cartoon self-portrait of Lennon and a facsimile of his autograph. The label says, “We hope this whirly mixture of toffee cookies and fudge peace signs enlightens your bellies and souls and makes you ask what you can do to promote peace in your lives.”
