Ice Cream Stick Ship Sets Sail

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

icecreamstickship.jpg

A full-sized Viking ship made from recycled ice-cream sticks will set sail for England from the Netherlands on Tuesday. The 50-foot long ship, named after the Norse god Thor, is made from 15 million recycled ice-cream sticks glued together by American stuntman Robert McDonald, his son and more than 5,000 children. Robert said, “If you can dream it you can do it. I want to teach children that anything is possible.” Robert was badly injured as a child in a gas explosion that killed the rest of his family, and he has loaded his ship with stuffed animals with plans to reach London and visit children in hospitals. He and his crew hope to cross the Atlantic later on the ancient Viking route to North America via Iceland and Greenland.

“Smart People” premiere

LOTS of laughter in the theatre last night as KISS FM premiered the movie “Smart People”. Personally, I thought Thomas Haden Church (who played the adopted brother) pretty much ‘made’ the movie – I just couldn’t get enough of him on screen! And the story would’ve been stronger if the script delved a little deeper into the inner thoughts and workings of the Vanessa character (played by Ellen Page). Didn’t Dennis Quaid kinda remind you of Jack Nicholson? All in all, a NICE little movie!! Whaddya think?

Here’s “How to Find a Husband”

The Slice network recently made two announcements. One was that the results of a survey it commissioned about the romantic lives of single Canadians revealed that a whopping 67% of singles date only twice a year or less.

The net’s second announcement was that it’s attempting to help the dismal situation by scheduling a new series called How to Find a Husband. Debuting on April 23 at 9pm ET/PT, the 10-parter follows a 30-something TV personality who challenges herself to go on 70 dates in 50 days in search of Mr. Right.

Sally Gray, a 37-year-old television presenter, says her sojourn was “ambitious by most singleton standards, but I wanted to, and definitely did, put my heart on the line. This was a real-life experiment where I road-tested lots of different types of men with dates ranging from amazing to downright disturbing.”

Cameras follow Gray as she tries everything from online and speed dating to soliciting the advice of a dating doctor and a psychic to allowing her mother to set her up.

Let’s hope this helps!!

(from perezhilton.com)

According to some new reports, Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy are engaged!

Word is, he popped the question while the two were on safari vacation in Botswana.

The question is, will Kate Middleton be royally pissed she didn’t get asked first?

Fred Flintstone car creator dismissed of charges

An artist facing charges for “driving” a Buick that looked more like a Fred Flintstone car, has driven home his point about consumption.

Montrealer Michel de Broin was pedaling his hollowed out 1986 Buick Regal when he was pulled over by police in Toronto last year and charged with operating an unsafe vehicle.

The car is really an art piece destined for display at the Mercer Union art gallery. De Broin was just nine blocks away when he was stopped, but he was determined to fight the charge and win.

In court, his lawyer maintained that the inherently dangerous part of automobiles is their powerful motors, and that the Toronto Police didn’t bother to test the steering or brakes, which were in good working order – even though they are hand brakes off a bike. The car also doesn’t have a floor, an engine or transmission, no signal lights and candles instead of headlights.

Said Fox, “This thing only went 15 km/h. I’d like to ask the officer how many people have been killed by a muscular powered vehicle.”

The Crown prosecutor did his best to make the case, but after the court erupted into laughter he withdrew his questions and retreated.

In the end, the J-P said “case dismissed.”

Beautiful Big Brown Dog on the loose!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

A beautiful big brown dog was spotted earlier today crossing 4 lanes of traffic at Riverside and Revelstoke in the Mooney’s Bay area…

This could be the same dog that was seen in the St. Laurent and Donald area over the weekend.

If so, this poor pup’s been on the loose for quite a while!

If you spot this dog in your travels, call 311 for the city to send out a catcher.

Once, caught, the dog will be taken to the Humane Society where it can be checked for a microchip and possible ownership.

Update - NOT the D.B. Cooper parachute

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

The torn, tangled parachute found recently by children along a dirt road could not have been the one used by D.B. Cooper back in 1971 during his infamous hijacking.  The man who packed the parachutes for the skyjacker, Earl Cossey, examined the chute for the FBI on Friday. The ones he provided for D.B. Cooper were made of nylon. The one found by the kids was silk, probably made around 1945. Cooper bailed out of the rear of a Northwest Orient Boeing 727 passenger jet with $200,000 in ransom near the Oregon-Washington border on the night of Nov. 24, 1971.

Good thing Jay Leno didn’t prank Jodie Foster with this one!
