Toys for Boys…and Everyone Else

Friday, February 15th, 2008

Classic toys, like classic rock, never seems to go out of style. This morning we told you the stories behind our favourites, like Mr. Potato, Play-Doh, and the Slinky. They’re simple, cheap, and, best of all, they don’t need batteries! They sure don’t make ‘em like they used to….

Here’s another one that’s stuck around - Etch-A-Sketch. Click here and you can draw online! And when you’re done, there’s nothing to put away.

Super Bowl Commercials

Monday, February 4th, 2008

What a night for 300 Club Q Rock Stars last night at the Dante Club with Q92’s Super Bowl Party. Thanks to Budweiser, Bigguy’s Jerseys and Sportswear, Pepsi and the Dante Club for helping throw a great party.

What a game it was too! A huge upset as the Giants keep the Patriots from finishing their perfect season. But enough about that…

Show me the Super Bowl commercials! At $2.7 million per 30 second spot, here they are:

Click here to see them all and vote for your favourite.

And here are some of our favourites for you to enjoy right here:

And one of MY favourites:

Who says only kids have fun?

Check out these rockin’ seniors….I think someone spiked their tea.

This Force is No Farse

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

When asked about their religious beliefs, some Canadians penciled in Jediism in the latest Canadian Census.

It’s no joke.

Star Wars fans are joining together - light sabres and all - to share in the values expressed in the George Lucas films.

We talked to John the Jedi from Texas this morning - he’s a believer in The Force. I didn’t know what to expect when we called him up. And you know what…I was pretty impressed. John was a really sweet guy, not an odd bird at all.

Click here to find out more about the Jedi way of life.

…And just for fun…have you seen this one? The poor kid in this video has been teased online quite a bit. Maybe more than ‘a bit’…it’s been viewed more than 4 million times!

Party Pooper

Friday, January 18th, 2008

A 16 year old guy from Australia threw a party while his parents were away on vacation. Nothing strange about that, right?

…Until things got out of hand…dun dun dunnnnnnnn….

Here’s the whole hilarious story.

Led Zeppelin Videos

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

It’s been a little over a day since the “Greatest Rock Band” performed their first full concert in almost 2 decades and the rumours continue to fly about a possible tour. The latest rumour is that they’ll do three shows in New York in 2008. I wish they would stop keeping us in suspense and just tell us yes or no already!

If you want to live the O2 concert vicariously through poor quality handheld videos with distorted sound from those lucky enough to be at the show, there are plenty on YouTube to chose from:

  • Kashmir

  • Whole Lotta Love

  • Good Times, Bad Times

  • Black Dog

  • Stairway to Heaven

  • Since I’ve Been Loving You

  • Crowd after the first encore.

If you find some more, post the link here for all to see.

Not the Sharpest Knife…

While posting the joke below, I couldn’t help but think of this clip. It’s almost disturbing how dim this contestant is.  Watch and laugh…and cry inside.

Taser Talk

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Shocking. Literally.

Two videos have emerged on the world wide web showing what looks (to the average person) like extremely unnecessary use of a police taser. It’s a tool that law enforcement can use to control dangerous suspects when they become a threat. But it’s also a weapon. A weapon that some police seem to be treating like a toy when there is no threat.

Now to be fair, I have a great deal of respect for the men and women in blue and the situations that they face on a daily basis. It’s not an easy job and sure, everyone makes mistakes. But with the amount of training that these officers endure, and with a little common sense, both of these now infamous situations could have been handled without voltage.

Thanks to the internet - you can be the judge. Post your comments!

If you haven’t seen the video of the Polish immigrant that was tasered and died at the Vancouver Airport by the RCMP, you can find it here.

Here is the video of the Utah State Trooper that tasered a man after he refused to sign his ticket.

***Warning: Both of these videos can be quite disturbing as they are raw and unedited.
