Party Pooper

Friday, January 18th, 2008

A 16 year old guy from Australia threw a party while his parents were away on vacation. Nothing strange about that, right?

…Until things got out of hand…dun dun dunnnnnnnn….

Here’s the whole hilarious story.

Natalie Post

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Have you seen her new show on CBC? Wednesday nights at 8:30.

In the National Post, Timmins’ own Natalie Brown writes about her transition from the North to stardom. See? Shania Twain isn’t the only celebrity to come from this city.

Illegal Car Idling

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

The City of Ottawa has kicked off the new year with a new law. There is now a fine of up to $100 for drivers caught running the engine of their car while stopped at the curb for more than three minutes.

This means that if your car is unoccupied and left running in any temperature, you could be charged. Now let me tell you, as someone that once lived in Ottawa, while it’s not northern Ontario, the nation’s capital can be a cold city in the winter.

Imagine that law here in Timmins! This morning it was -30, or 38 below with the wind chill. No more warming your car up in the morning before work on a minus 38 day. Kind of makes that new car starter you just had installed useless doesn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll all for saving the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But, aren’t there better ways to do just that? Especially in a cold place like here where getting our tongue stuck to the steering wheel could be a real reason to stay home from work? Okay, maybe I’m being a bit ridiculous. What do you think?

Plug In The Christmas Lights

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

It’s a cold Saturday night here, but take some comfort in knowing that southern Ontario is about to get pounded with as much as 40 cm of snow, sleet and ice pellets tonight and tomorrow. Meanwhile, Sunday in Timmins looks to be a great day, a few flurries and a high of minus 11…I’ll see you at Kamiskotia Snow Resort.

And while we’re on the weather topic, take a look at the photo in this link. Ever heard of “snowrollers”? Very cool.

Taser Talk

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Shocking. Literally.

Two videos have emerged on the world wide web showing what looks (to the average person) like extremely unnecessary use of a police taser. It’s a tool that law enforcement can use to control dangerous suspects when they become a threat. But it’s also a weapon. A weapon that some police seem to be treating like a toy when there is no threat.

Now to be fair, I have a great deal of respect for the men and women in blue and the situations that they face on a daily basis. It’s not an easy job and sure, everyone makes mistakes. But with the amount of training that these officers endure, and with a little common sense, both of these now infamous situations could have been handled without voltage.

Thanks to the internet - you can be the judge. Post your comments!

If you haven’t seen the video of the Polish immigrant that was tasered and died at the Vancouver Airport by the RCMP, you can find it here.

Here is the video of the Utah State Trooper that tasered a man after he refused to sign his ticket.

***Warning: Both of these videos can be quite disturbing as they are raw and unedited.

Stripping Will NOT Be Tolerated.

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Here’s another classy contest: The 2007 World Pole Dance Championship. Not surprising, it was a controversial event, but not for the reasons you might be thinking…Controversy erupted at the World Pole Dancing Championship when the winner was disqualified for removing too many clothes. She stripped down to her bra and panties.

Wait! Isn’t that what pole dancers are supposed to do? So she was disqualified for “stripping”? I’m confused. Anyway, since the “Maytag” is no longer, here are the photos and videos.

Nice Bum, Where Ya From?

Le Big Mac

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Would you like some Dijon ketchup with your fries?

No, the Barenaked Ladies aren’t working the fast food line - but YOU may feel more like a rockstar the next time you stop by McDonald’s.

Leather seats, a classy decor, video games, and big screen TV’s are part of the chain’s new image.

That all sounds real nice, but don’t think I’m going to be neat and clean when I eat my Big Mac. Part of the fun is spilling the toppings!

Check out Micky D’s new look here.

New Kids on the Timmins Block

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

The Mac. Wednesday night. 6:30 to 9:00pm. Be there.

‘Welcome to Timmins Night’ is greeting the city’s new comers with information on sports, services, and some other fun stuff. Shawn and I will be there, finding out what Heart O’Gold land has to offer. With the cool weather looking like it’s here to stay, I’d say it’s time to find a new hobby. I’m thinking…maybe something involving fire. Hmmmm, do you think there is a local fire throwing club? Show up to find out!

If you aren’t looking to sign up for some extra-curricular activities, I bet there’ll be a ton of swag (like pens and pins) up for the offering. You can never have too many of those.

Oh, and if you are new to Timmins, glad to have you here!

P.S. So David Usher is coming to the Vic. Will you be checking him out live? Let us know if you’re a fan.
