Time to Burn

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

OK, I’ll admit it, I spend a lot of time online - probably too much. Let me share with you some of the sights that take up many hours of this girl’s life. (Guys, don’t be afraid. There is a possibility that you too can become addicted these links!)

Funny or Die - This ‘not always safe for work’ site hosts a ton of funny videos. For added pleasure, check out the Will Ferrell stuff.

Ask Men - This one is for the guys, but I read it too. It’s updated daily and has fun stuff, but also many articles to inform and laugh at. (Don’t follow all the fashion tips, is all I have to say.)

Goldenfiddle I’ve been surfing this one for awhile…it comes highly recommended. This site contains awesome links with witty headings. I’m all about the fiddle. You have to let me know what you think of this one.

Perez Hilton - I had to include this one. If you are a celebrity gossip addict (or a closeted one) this one is already book marked. This is where news is made, people.

Four links? Kinda weak. I say we start off slow - many more suggestions to come.

As you peruse my choices, let us know what keeps you online while you should be doing real life things!

Mmmmm….Rocky Road…

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

It might make a delicious ice cream, but a rough ride can be hard on your car (not to mention your lap when you spill your hot coffee.)

Yelling at your steering wheel might relieve some stress. Will it re-pave a messy street? I haven’t done any scientific studies, but I’m guessing it won’t.

Instead of raising your voice, let your fingers do the talking at WorstRoads.ca. The CAA has been doing this campaign for five years now, and they say the votes they receive actually get results.

For example, Algonquin Road has brought in many complaints to the website. Is its recent makeover just a coincidence?

The Q will be keeping an eye on this year’s Worst Roads survey. We’ll let you know which Timmins roadway is getting the thumbs down from motorists.

Or, um…another finger.

Sing along with Shawn

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Maybe you’ve seen it on TV. Maybe you’ve seen it on the big screen at Cinema 6 before Nanny Diaries (ya sure your wife made you go). And most likely you’ve heard it on Q92.

The latest Ontario Tourism campaign has a catchy song. Everytime we play the commercial on Q92, I sing along. “There’s no place like this…” And when I do that, Mel makes fun of me. Then I found out there are way worse people that sing this commercial than me! There’s actually a contest for the best sing along for this ad.

See the commercial that we’re talking about…then see the horrible (and some not so horrible) singing in this contest.

I don’t feel so bad now.

Le Big Mac

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Would you like some Dijon ketchup with your fries?

No, the Barenaked Ladies aren’t working the fast food line - but YOU may feel more like a rockstar the next time you stop by McDonald’s.

Leather seats, a classy decor, video games, and big screen TV’s are part of the chain’s new image.

That all sounds real nice, but don’t think I’m going to be neat and clean when I eat my Big Mac. Part of the fun is spilling the toppings!

Check out Micky D’s new look here.

New Kids on the Timmins Block

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

The Mac. Wednesday night. 6:30 to 9:00pm. Be there.

‘Welcome to Timmins Night’ is greeting the city’s new comers with information on sports, services, and some other fun stuff. Shawn and I will be there, finding out what Heart O’Gold land has to offer. With the cool weather looking like it’s here to stay, I’d say it’s time to find a new hobby. I’m thinking…maybe something involving fire. Hmmmm, do you think there is a local fire throwing club? Show up to find out!

If you aren’t looking to sign up for some extra-curricular activities, I bet there’ll be a ton of swag (like pens and pins) up for the offering. You can never have too many of those.

Oh, and if you are new to Timmins, glad to have you here!

P.S. So David Usher is coming to the Vic. Will you be checking him out live? Let us know if you’re a fan.

And They’re Off!

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Today is the official start of the 2007 Provincial Election in Ontario. You probably noticed candidate’s signs popping up around town on your drive to or from work.

We were discussing how this is the time of year that you can get your politicians to do whatever you want, like mow your lawn, do your homework, or maybe pick you up from the bar after a few… well we were half kidding about that. But the fact is, 3 candidates are vying for your vote. Learn more about these 3 guys here:

And there’s something else going on with this general election. With the first ever referendum on electoral reform, you control the future of the province’s electoral system. What the heck does that mean? You are being asked to decide the way that we elect members to our provincial legislature. It’s kind of a big deal, and if you’re like me and you’ve got some questions, click here to learn more about Referendum Day or visit Elections Ontario.

Then remember to vote on October 10th. Gotta go, Gilles is here to fold my laundry, Pat’s cleaning my oven, and Steve is washing my floors… See you at the polls.

Britney is back and worse than ever

Britney

Britney Spears may as well have been sleepwalking through the lazy (lethargic? lame?) performance of her new single, “Gimme More” at the VMAs. So much for a big comeback, the dancing was terrible and it went along with the worst lip-syncing in the history of the Mickey Mouse Club. On the plus side, she looked hot.

***Update: Viacom (parent company of MTV) has removed this video from YouTube. Thanks to one of our listeners that found another version though, you can follow the link in the comments section below. Thanks Pauly!

***Update 2: We found another version if you’re still looking for the trainwreck…click here.

Global TV says Timmins is Boomtown

White as a…Moose???

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Q listener Brenda is kind enough to call the station every once in a while to let us know what’s going on in her world. Today she let us in on a bizarre sighting she had - a white moose. To tell you the truth, Shawn and I were a little skeptical about the whole thing. I’d never heard of a white moose. Brenda suggested it might have been an albino. So then the phone started to ring. Turns out, other people can confirm the spotting AND there’s a website devoted to the pale animal.

Guess I don’t know my mooses…I mean moose.

Tomorrow morning we’ll be talking with Joel, one of the people behind the site. Until then, check it out online www.whitemoose.ca , and let us know if you’ve had a spotting yourself!
