Q Officers Shawn and Mel

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Someone, somewhere is sharpening scissors meant for just one thing: cutting a big, bad, red ribbon.

Yes, my friends, tomorrow is the day that’s been years in the making. The GRAND OPENING of the new Police Building. I’ve heard hundreds of people are expected to show up for the ceremonies, including Police Chiefs from all over.

Shawn and I want to check it out to see what is so special about this fancy station. Sooooo - listen to the show Thursday morning. We’re broadcasting live from police headquarters. This could mean trouble….

Have a burning question for the women and men in uniform?? Luke (the Q’s afternoon guy) will be taking care of things at our station - so give him a call (267-1134) and let us know what’s on your brilliant mind.

Beauty and Brains?

There are no stupid questions…just really dumb answers.

Although she did not win the Miss Teen USA crown on Friday night, Miss South Carolina Lauren Caitlin Upton still stole the show. Upton has become an overnight Internet star thanks to her nonsensical response:

She’s scheduled to appear on NBC’s The Today show this morning (August 28th) to discuss her gaffe and to finally give an answer to the question that made her an Internet star.

The video of Upton’s now-famous non-answer has been viewed more than 3 million times on Youtube.

We think she’s a future George W. Bush! Thoughts?

Throw Away the Key

I was thrown in jail!

Bread, water, bizarre body searches…the whole deal!

OK, well, that’s how the nightmare went after a tour of the new Timmins Police Building. Have you had a tour of the place? It’s pretty fancy - Shawn says it has that new police facility smell to it still…I think that’s just the fresh paint though. A couple cool points of interest: the jail cells are VERY uncomfortable. No blankets, no pillows, no fun. But I guess that’s the point, right? Another thing - the paper shredder. They had a few of these high tech machines that are apparently pretty rare. Police documents are fed into them and are blasted into hundreds of pieces before they’re tunneled somewhere to be destroyed. You’d want to keep your rare comic books away from that monster.

I recommend that you check the place out. Public tours are running Saturday and Monday. Contact the station to book your place - and let us know what you think of the shiny new place!

You’ll want to listen to the morning show this coming Thursday. We’ll be broadcasting live from the Police Facility. Guess I’ll have to make sure I clean out my pockets before then.

Gotta go be good! You should too!

Rumours

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Hard to believe I know, but there have been rumours circulating the city that were incorrect. I know, I know. How could a rumour that you heard from your neighbour’s hairdresser’s second husband’s co-worker not be true?

This morning we had a handful of calls from listeners wanting to know the truth after they heard that a body was found, possibly that of the missing blueberry picker.

Well the truth is that there was nothing found at all. According to the official police statement, they have not uncovered a body and the case of the missing 79 year-old South Porcupine resident Luciano Trinaistich is still open. Of course, anyone with real information on the case is asked to contact police.

But this brings up a real question about how a rumour like that can spread and spread quickly. We heard many different listener stories regarding this topic. Isn’t it amazing how the truth can get quickly skewed and distorted? What crazy rumours have you heard? Ever heard a crazy rumour about YOU?

Now I know how poor Lindsay Lohan must have felt. On a lighter note, here’s Lindsay looking hot before all the DUI’s and rehab:

August?! Really? C’mon…

As the Canadian dollar drops, so does the mercury. Is there a connection? Hmmm, something to look into. Today’s high is expected to reach 19 degrees - by Friday it’ll only hit 14! I imagine wet weather will be mixed in with these cool conditions. You can blame the showers on the tears from those of us who are depressed over the quickly disappearing summer. Farewell summer of 2007! We hardly got to know ya.

Enough weather talk…

Here’s a story about some bold bad guys (or girls.) The Cut Above, which is the hairdressers next door to the Q on Second Ave. , was broken into last night. What makes this break and enter particularly brazen is the new Police building’s location - RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET! Maybe there aren’t enough North facing windows at the station??? We’ll update you during the show about what went down.

Also on tomorrow’s show - we’ll be talking about an Ontario-wide survey. It has something to do with the state of the province’s roads. Call Q92 before 9am Thursday morning and let us know which Timmins area street is the bumpiest, roughest, most awful strip of pavement to drive down. You know the number, right? Just in case you, um, happen to have lost my number, I’ll remind ya - 267-1134.

Talk to you tomorrow and welcome to August Autumn! Let’s carve a beach pumpkin!

Case of the Tuesdays

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

So here’s the thing about long weekends…I’m always forgetting which day it is - the order is all messed up. There should be a new name for the day after the long weekend to help with this problem. Muesday? Tonday?

Anyways, hope you had a lovely Civic Holiday - which is code for ‘not everyone gets the day off.’ Timmins Square employees, I’m looking at you. Maybe call in sick today as revenge.

OH - and have you noticed the new look of the blog? The big guys in Ottawa put this pretty page together. We’re still setting up our home here, so you can expect more features in the future. The blog will pretty much end world hunger and answer life’s big question. What would you like to see here? Keep in mind, the boss says we have to keep it clean.

Looks like I’m out of coffee…need more to make it through Tonday, er, Muesday…

What ever happened to the iTravel2000 Sno-Cone Crew?

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

After a hot weekend in Timmins, I got to thinking, “What ever happened to that ice cream truck from iTravel2000?”

iTravel2000 Sno-Cone Gang

They completed their journey! After a stop in Timmins last month, their 12,400 km trip is now complete. They handed out over 10,000 sno-cones! Check out all the photos, videos and writings from their journey - including their stop here - see if you’re in the photos.
