Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen was born September 23, 1949 in Freehold, N.J..  Growing up in southern New Jersey, Springsteen turned to rock & roll as a teenager and played in a series of bands from the mid-’60s on, varying in style from garage rock to power trio blues-rock. By the early ’70s, he was trying his hand at being a folky singer/songwriter in Greenwich Village. But when he was signed to Columbia Records in 1972, he brought into the studio many of the New Jersey-based musicians with whom he’d played over the years.  The result was “Greetings From Asbury park, N.J.” in January, 1973, which went unnoticed upon initial release, athough its leadoff track, “Blinded by the Light,” was a number one hit four years later for which band?

A)  The Amboy Dukes

B)  Boston

C)  Manfred Mann’s Earth Band

I know, easy one!

    Hey Mike,

Hope you’re having a great evening and wishing you a safe ride home tonight through the sleet and snow!

I have Jersey relatives and one cousin in particular was (and is still) a HUGE Springsteen fan since the very early day. On a visit in the early ’80’s I went with to my cousins’ high school band night where Springsteen’s cousin played with one of the bands and Bruce was there to support him. I actually met him that night and didn’t have a clue who he was - thought he was a local band like Rush was here at the time, as totally pathetic as that sounds today. My cousin kept trying to convince me that the “Boss” was the next great thing by playing his albums (yes we’re actually talking vinyl here) over and over, but I just wasn’t getting it at the time. For me, he’s been an acquired taste and I actually won tickets through Jack to his last TO concert and it was one of the best I’ve been to.

On the Leafs front, yes, golfing is definitely seems to be what they have to look forward to in the near future. But people should lay off those who were smart enough to negotiate no trade clauses and choose to now exercise them when the going gets tough. That’s what they had them put in for in the first place. And as for Cliff Fletcher, my late dad played Junior A hockey for him in Montreal and always considered him a class act.

After a little more thought, my referenced time period for meeting Bruce Springteen should have about 1978 (not early ’80’s). Not sure if it’s the late hour or not wanting to think that it could have been that many years ago!!! I was around 15 at the time.

of course I could screw this up! I typed in Manfred Mann’s Earth Band
instead of the letter C…..to my shock it was wrong (of course!)…I had to go back and re read the blog only to find out all I had to type was C!

  4. Jack Goldstein Says:

Is Manfred Mann’s Earth Band the same band that did Mighty Quinn and Do Wah Diddy Diddy (Dum Diddy Do)?

Hey Mike; The Amboy Dukes, and journey to the center of the mind, with who we like to call “Uncle Teddy” is a great tune and should be played more often.

Of course the Leafs are becoming good golfers, they start golfing 2 1/2
months before the rest of the N.H.L. Maybe we should create a version of
the stanley cup for golf.It may be the begining of a dynasty.
