Deep Purple

Deep Purple was formed in Hertford, England, in 1968.  The band’s revolving door roster included Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Rod Evans, Ian Gillan, Nick Simper, Jon Lord and Ian Paice.  Despite the ever-changing lineup, the group enjoyed much success after changing their musical focus from progressive rock to heavy metal.  Deep Purple were once credited in the Guinness Book of World Records as the  loudest band on earth and the group is still performing and recording today.  The group was first assembled as a session band for ex-Searchers drummer Chris Curtis but quickly went their own way, touring Scandinavia before beginning work on their debut LP, “Shades Of Deep Purple”.

In 1967, former Searchers drummer Chris Curtis contacted London businessman Tony Edwards in the hope that he would manage a new group he was putting together, to be called Roundabout: so-called because the members would get on and off the band, like a musical roundabout.

    Hi Mike,
I see many people can’t read, they still enter their answer in the Comments section.

My suggestion for a question. I just heard you play one of my favourite songs Wed night by Midnight Oil, “Beds Are Burning”. So my suggestion is to ask what is the meaning of the song? It’ll interesting to know how many people go beyond the good music and actually think to get the message of what the band are telling us.
