Smashing Pumpkins

Friday, January 11th, 2008

The Smashing Pumpkins formed in Chicago, Illonois in 1988.  Leader and lead singer Billy Corgan’s musical vision was lived out through a unique and sometimes dark mixture of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock and psychedelia, creating a layered, but powerful sound driven by distorted and swirling guitars. Add in that Billy was wise enough to exploit his angst-ridden lyrics, and unlike Nirvana (who were too destructive) and Pearl Jam (who didn’t like the spotlight), The Smashing Pumpkins by knowing how to play their cards right, eventually turned into the model of alternative rock success.  And they’re back in 2008 - are you a fan?

For 100 free Jack Nation Points, what kind of music did Billy Corgan’s father play on guitar?

BTW, I love the Smashing Pumpkins “Siamese Dream” album!  Definitely one of my favourites.
