Parking Lot Sharks

Friday, November 30th, 2007

With the Christmas shopping season upon us and about to kick into full tilt gear with December arriving this weekend, open parking spots at the mall are becoming more rare than a Maple Leafs victory!

Shoppers now cruise the parking lots looking for an open spot like sharks cruise the oceans looking for their next prey.  And day after day, increasingly, its getting more difficult to find that coveted prize without having to walk the length of three football fields to get to the mall doors.

And now, beginning December 1st,  the police are cracking down on drivers who illegally park in designated disabled spots.  The blitz will run for the entire month as the cops will be focusing mostly on people who use illegal permits at shopping malls.

Got any parking horror stories?  Any advice for finding a good spot?  Have you ever seen someone illegally park in a handicap spot?  Did you say anything to them?

Hammer Time!

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Before coming to JACK FM in Toronto , I spent almost ten years working for a radio station in Hamilton.  I was born in Toronto and am thrilled to be back working here, but I must admit I definitely enjoyed large portions of my time spent working in the Hammer.  I know a great number of amazing people from Hamilton, and while it certainly has a less than  stellar reputation outside the city in some circles, it can be a really fun town if you know where to go (and where not to go!).

One of my general rules of life is don’t dish it out if you can’t take it.  So I have to smile right now in the middle of JACK’s Springsteen in Steeltown promo controversy.  It wasn’t too long ago, the management of the Hamilton radio station I worked for decided it was a good idea to put up billboards across the city declaring “Toronto Sucks”.  It turned out to be not such a good idea as most Hamilton residents were offended and the publicity the station received was overwhelmingly negative.

Well, payback’s a bitch.

Or, maybe you prefer karma?

What do you think of Hamilton?  Do you ever go there?  What do you like about the city?  What do you not like?

Here’s your bonus code worth 100 Jack Nation points:  HAMILTON

And here’s your wacky website of the day:  Mullets Galore! (very popular in Hamilton)

Enjoy, and thanks for dropping by!

Ciao for now.

Cross Border Shopping

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Shopping south of the border seems to the “in” thing these days.  A strong Canadian dollar, close proximity to the United States of Amurica, Christmas sales and lower prices in general are contributing to an ever escalating number of Canadians crossing the border to spend their money.

But with long line-ups at the border, the price of gas, the big crowds in the malls and the time it takes for a return trip, is it really worth it?

Have you been cross border shopping recently?

Are you planning a trip south of the border soon?

Are you ready for some football?

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Well, the CFL’s Grey Cup weekend has finally arrived in Toronto and the overall consensus from all the folks visting from Western Canada is - Toronto is full of wussies.  Why?  Beacuse just after our first taste of winter, colder temperatures and a little snow, we sent out a cold weather alert and moved some of the street festivities indoors.  What’s next?  Are we gonna call in the army again?  To some folks from Saskatchewan and Manitoba, our current weather is what they call a heatwave!

Speaking of football, what do you think about the possibility of an NFL team relocating to Toronto?  Will it be a good thing?  Will it kill the CFL?

Have a great weekend.  Talk to ya tomorrow.

A Blast of Winter!

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  If you’re a tow truck driver, that is!

You’d think we’d be used to it by now.  I mean, we do get snow on the roads every winter afterall.  We do think of ourselves as fairly intelligent don’t we?  Why can’t we remember how to drive with snow on the ground every year when we get our first blast of winter?

Over 300 snow related accidents in the GTA and Highway 400 closed down in both directions on Thursday.  Why?  Because people fortget how to drive with snow on the road and it’s the same thing every year when we get our first taste of winter driving.  You’d think we’d have learned by now.

Snow tires, snow brushes, windshield washer fluid, gloves and most importantly - SLOW DOWN and give yourself some extra time to get there.

Can you think of anything else people need to be reminded of when it comes to winter driving?

Your comments are appreciated and I’ll be sure to pass them along.

Take care, take it easy and take your time.

Weird Toilets From Around The World!

Enjoy.

Nice Start!

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who checked out my “debut” blog and your comments are definitely appreciated.  As far as what you thought I should put in my blog, the overwhelming consensus is Jack Nation Points codes, so that is exactly what you’ll be getting here before week’s end!

There were all kinds of other great suggestions like Bush bashing, hot girls, sports stuff, trivia and my favourite - guess the body part!   Thanks again for all your kind words and cool blog suggestions.  I will use many of them in the future.

So now that I’ve got the debut done, what to follow up with?  Well, something that’s on my mind lately is the whole Christmas decorating thing.  When is it too early to have your lights and tree up?  When is it too late to still have your Christmas lights on after Christmas is over.  Personally, I don’t put up anything remotely resembling xmas until the month of December arrives and everything is down by the end of the first week of January.

Isn’t 5 weeks enough?

When is it too much?

Got any Christmas decorating horror stories?

Keep coming back as the “POINTS” bribing will begin soon!

The Debut

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Hey, thanks for dropping by and checking out my “debut” blog!   To keep you coming back every day, I hope to have some JACK Nation points to bribe you with (like the other jocks) soon!  In the meantime, I’m not above begging for your visits, encouraging your comments and posting naked photos of myself that I took with my camera phone while intoxicated.

I’ve only been at the station a couple of weeks, but I’ve already noticed something about this whole blog deal - the lovely, smart and humourous ladies on-air at JACK (see obviously sucking up) definitely get the most attention when it comes to the blog action.  Larissa, Samantha and Carly all write interesting, fun and informative daily pieces and you really should check out their blogs every day (see blatant ass kissing).  Hopefully, they’ll also encourage you to check out my blog too!

Now it’s your turn.  What do YOU think would make my blog one that you’d wnat to check out every day?  Send me your ideas and you might just see them on this blog one day!

So, being the new guy around here, if you’d like to find out more about me, the show, where the hell they found me and other vital information, check out my website:  www.miketyler.biz

Talk to you tomorrow,

JACK rules.
