Halloween Goes X-Rated

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

It appears the days of dressing up like a scary witch or ghost are gone…at least for women. Nowadays, it seems Halloween costumes for the ladies are geared more towards being “sexy“. There’s the “sexy sailor”, the “sexy police officer”, and we can’t forget the old stand-by….the “sexy maid”.

Personally, I’ve always enjoyed dressing up in “traditional” costumes, but for some reason, tons of women now find it enjoyable to wear hardly anything on Halloween night. A good friend of mine (who will remain anonymous) is heading to a dress-up party this weekend. Her DAUGHTER has been trying to convince her to dress up as a “sexy princess”. What the heck is with that? Thankfully, my girlfriend turned down her daughter’s request and will be dressing up as something that doesn’t require thigh-high stockings.

I’ve been inquiring about this topic with many people and I’ve discovered the problem may not be women wanting to dress like tramps. Costume shops could be to blame. If you take the time to check one out, you’ll see racks and racks of barely-there costumes. Maybe it’s time for these retailers to realize that not all women want to look like tramps.

Tiny Treats

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

With Halloween just over a week away, I decided it was time to stock up on some candy. Of course I can’t go without “testing” the sweet treats. I mean it’s imperative to make sure the stuff is suitable for the trick-or-treaters. I was absolutely shocked when I grabbed a Mars bar. I swear they’ve shrunk to the size of a penny! I know Halloween candy has always been smaller than the regular-sized chocolate bars, but what gives with the teenie-weenie treats? Depending on how you look at it, smaller candies could be a good thing. The upside; the kids, and myself, probably aren’t consuming as much. The downside; instead of putting one chocolate bar in the trick-or-treat pillow case, you now have to put at least three! I could be totally wrong. Maybe the chocolates aren’t getting any smaller….maybe I’m getting way bigger.

My Humidifer Saved My Life….And My Marriage

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Okay, so maybe the title of this blog is a little over the top, but I’m telling you, it’s not too far off. I’ve been suffering with the brutal cold and cough that’s been running rampant through Calgary and it has been nasty. Several people in the newsroom have been hit, but the morning show crew seems to have taken the brunt of the bug. We’ve all been giving advice to each other and sharing our cures; hot brandy with lemon and honey, Vicks Vapour Rub on the bottom of your feet, and the good old sinus rinse. Nothing I tried worked. For seven days I’ve been a coughing, sniffling, red-eyed shell of the person I used to be. I’ve tried to endure, but it was to the point where I seriously thought my husband would leave me if I couldn’t stop coughing during the night. Neither one of us was getting any sleep. The poor guy was even running to the drug store just before midnight the other day to go find me some sort of cough suppressant! And then (cue the music) I found it. The humidifier. I feel like an absolute new person. I went to bed, drifted off in my steam-filled room and didn’t wake up for six hours straight! In my world, that is an absolute ton of sleep. I can’t stop talking about it. My co-host, Ted Henley came in again this morning sniffling and I told him he has got to stop and buy one of those handy-dandy devices. I swear it’ll rock his world. My only word of advice…don’t cheap out. The more expensive and bigger the humidifier, the better the results.
