This is my first foray in this world of blogging..bear with me…. and thanks for taking a peek right out of the gate while I work out the kinks!.. .
THE HONEYMOON IS OVER..
This past week has been quite a different one - post work day. Normally I’m home in time for lunch and spend the rest of my day chasing around two cute and busy boys.
THE CHAOS HAS RETURNED.
My house was the quietest it has been in ten years…Last week our oldest left us ( and me the anxious mom) and headed 7 hours north to a hockey camp. Our youngest… at four and half… wanted some ” out of house ” action too and went to play with his grandparents hours to the east of us ( daily phone calls.. no probs.. missed the cat.. not us) . It turned into quite the big mommy moment for me.
Our ten year old was totally out of my grasp… no communication…. and seven hours away. I know he didn’t miss me for a minute and the stats show camp kids really do just fine. The experts say getaway camps allow kids to grow ( parents too!)…. enhancing self esteem.. self confidence.. and social skills… build life long friendships.. and kids get away from little brothers.. and clingy moms.
His best part of last week?… different coloured pancakes every morning with smarties and chocolate chips, and oh yeah..the hockey.. and his new buddies from New Jersey.
How clean was my house?
( Hello Martha!)…there was no lego on the floor..the playstation was quiet..I was torn between jumping for joy ( the ultimate and extended Calgon take me away moment) to ..wow… what do I do with myself?
How much laundry, napping, phone calls and CNN/HGTV could I cram in? A lot. Our neighbours joked that the week would be like a second honeymoon week for us. Yeah, we’ve had the hot dinner dates some day trips over the weekend….and we slept in!
By Sunday… I couldn’t wait wait to trip over their shoes at the door again.
Today I’ve got a full house of kids.. buddies and all.
My house… is lived in.
