The storm centre captain

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Geez I love this job and the team I work with!

We have been doing the 680 storm centre for quite some time now and we have it down to what we think is a pretty fine art. We have contacts all over the place to give us the official word on closures and cancellations.

Jaime Pulfer is an organizational wizard who has to take all of the information and put it together and get it on the air in a manner that makes sense. That’s not as simple as it sounds. Each source has his or her own manner of communcation and some of them use point form, some full sentences with the pertinent information buried within. And within seconds, Jaime has pinpointed the purpose and has it on the air and on 680news.com.

Not only that, but she also has to get that info to Paul and to me, in a clear manner, so we can get it on air again, as fast as we can.

The list grows really quickly once officials start waking up and making the decisions. We take updates from the big school boards to the tiniest daycare centres and it all matters to someone!

So, Jaime is more than just the professional voice you hear on the air. She has help, of course, but she really is the person who pulls it all together to keep you informed on days such as these.
