Beer Store Monopoly
Do you think beer should also be sold in Ontario corner stores? Derek Forward, who describes himself as “just a private citizen,” has started an online petition. He hopes to force the Ontario government to break up The Beer Store monopoly.
Here’s a link to his petition:

Strongly support beer sales in grocery stores - both supermarkets and convenience stores -the same as they do in Quebec. When Premier McGuinty says he feels the present way of selling beer is more secure for abuse by under-age drinkers - he is i
n essence saying that the people of Ontario are not as mature as Quebeckers!

I live in King City. There is no beer store in King City. Idrive 17km to the closest Beer Store. While Dalton of a greener Ontario he ignores the fact that a 34 km ( round trip ) drive to the Beer Store is a substantial contributor to pollution.
Do the math. If 5000 people do this drive only once in a life time the total = 170,000km of unnecessary driving.
I do this weekly. In Grafton Ontario as well as in other rural areas beer and liquor is already sold in grocery stores. This is really nothing new. What we are being asked to accept is Dalton’s protectionism of big business.
