$ 50 Snow Removal Refund - APRIL FOOLS!
Thank you one and all for being such good sports on April Fools Day with our little prank. Rest assured city council has no plans to give you back your money! If you fell for this, don’t feel bad, you were not alone.

Love it..It’s about time city hall acted like a business. I want my 50 bucks..just how do I prove it?
April 1st, 2008 at 2:47 am
This is the dumbest thing EVER. Every person in the city of Ottawa is going to try and take advantage of this….and you just watch, next year our taxes will go up as a result.
This mayor just keeps getting stupider, and stupider.

I’m a snowplow driver. Does this mean I could lose my job?
April 1st, 2008 at 2:53 am
At first I thought this was a good idea and then I seen the meeting on the tv last nite. I herd that you have to bring a box of snow as proof, and a letter from a lawyer. That dum!!!!!!

I agree with Sandra. First and foremost, this was an extraordinary winter. One that I think couldn’t have been anticipated let alone planned for. I think we all have to keep that in mind. Had it been a typical winter and we received less than typical service I think we would have grounds for complaints. I think that the best was done under the circumstances. At least the city didn’t come out with the ‘Good-bye to the sidewalks’ plan and use them to pile the snow from the roads. And also like Sandra says, If the city is going to run as a business, then they will cover their losses in next year’s taxes. If you think otherwise, then you must believe that businesses really provide free delivery. No it’s built into the product prices! Businesses aren’t in business to lose money and either is the government. DISCLAIMER: NO, I DON’T WORK FOR CITY HALL AND I DO NOT REMOVE SNOW FOR THE CITY!

Does no one realize what day it is?
April 1st, 2008 at 4:35 am
What I want is a retroactive rebate for all those years we didn’t use up the budget. Where was my rebate then? and why wasn’t the money put into a ’slush’ fund for the years you KNOW we’ll get the snow. Want to run a business???
I am not interested in paying as you go.
Now lets talk warranty - this business man knows that the best thing to offer a customer is a 100% guarantee if you are not satisfied. Brings in the customers because it shows a willingness to get the job done right, however, there is always the fine print. It’s never that easy.

I’m sorry, but wasn’t the council frantically trying to come up with enough cash to cover the cost of snow removal - just last week? Where the hell are they going to get the money to “pay off” half of the city? I know! Come spring we’ll be asked to pay a $50 levy for the repair of the sea of potholes out there. Because, you know … they used that money to put towards snow removal.
God, I can’t wait until Trainwreck O’Brien is out of city hall for good.

Ha Ha Ha! This is definetly APRIL FOOL”S JOKE!!! GOOD JOB Carter, Sandra and The Boyle!
April 1st, 2008 at 4:49 am
Happy April Fool’s Day!
April 1st, 2008 at 4:51 am
well to me i feel we should just pay the 50 bucks and not worry about it on our taxes next year but as we all know people will try for a refund and some should so is there any loop holes like can 10 or 20 nabourers get togeather on one piece of paper and get a lawyer sign the paper or is their going to be any lawyers offering up a 5 or 10 dollar fee not 50 to 75
April 1st, 2008 at 4:53 am
Nice April Fools Day joke guys … But if it was a true initiative from the City I would definitely not support it … It’s not logical and the administrative fee would counter act the benefit..
April 1st, 2008 at 5:03 am
ahhhh april fools!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:05 am
Mmmmm….is today not April 1st? This sounds like it would make a great April Fool’s joke…….
April 1st, 2008 at 5:10 am
This is whinning.. plain and simple.. This winter was an exceptional winter. I think the best was done under the circumstances.
Plus who’s going to make the money.. the notaries. Will it solve the problem. NO..
Taxes will probably go up as a result, which I think is ridiculous.
If this takes a huge proportion, the gov’t will pass a law about exonerating cities from paying.. just like they did with the potholes.
Bunch of whinners!!!!!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:16 am
Hey ……. I just want to say “Happy April Fools Day”
April 1st, 2008 at 5:17 am
This is ridiculous. Who is going to pay for processing of all these “rebates”? Who is going to pay for all the processing of evidence (ie/ the box of snow, the letter from your lawyer, etc.)?? What is wrong with these people? I say we all converge on City Hall today with signs and make some noise to voice our disapproval of this latest STUPID decision. Who is with me???
April 1st, 2008 at 5:18 am
Happy April Fools Day!!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:18 am
Happy April Fools Day Everyone!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:19 am
I’m curious to see how long it will take residents of Ottawa to figure out that today is April Fools Day?! Do you really think City Hall wants a sample of your snow? Good grief! Good one Kiss Fm!!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:22 am
I’m sorry, but this has got to be an April’s Fool’s Joke that the Morning Show is playing on their listeners. A snow storage centre? That’s absolutely ridiculous!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:23 am
Take a look at the date everyone. Good joke from Carter, Sandra and the Boyle to start off April!!
Although it is just plausible enough that you could think Larry thought this up.
I think city hall employees who heard this on the way in to work are going “oh no” regarding the calls they are going to get.
April 1st, 2008 at 5:23 am
A transport cooler will not work. Look how Ice melts. Snow will change to a liquid very fast. Storing snow, come on. What city counsillor dreamed this one up. What a waste of taxpayers dollars. Sure the principal is there but enough is enough.
April 1st, 2008 at 5:23 am
Good April Fool’s joke!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:29 am
Why would I pay $50-100 to get a notorized letter, spend the money to drive my car (let’s face it, gas isn’t free) to city hall, and spend the money to develop a picture (even if it is only $0.15!) so that I can pay less on my taxes???? Hello? Has no one thought of this?
April 1st, 2008 at 5:32 am
It’s going to cost people their $50 just to get the lawyer to sign their petition! I think that you should also have to prove that you didn’t use any of the other roads in the city. The guys doing the plowing did the best they could with an extraordinary situation.
April 1st, 2008 at 5:35 am
I feel sooooo stupid!
Good one!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:36 am
I just wanted to explain how the city budget works when it comes to those of you that comment ” Where’s the $$ from last year” What happens is at the end of a fiscal year if you do not “spend” your “budget” you lose that portion of your budget. The money then get allocated to those who have over spent. I use to work for the City and every year we had to make sure we make our budget and would go on a spending fury at the end of the fiscal year so we didn’t lose any of our budget for the next year.
The refund to those who did not receive adaquate snow removal I think can escalate to people just wanting the 50.00. I think the city council should be more concerned with lowering our tax increase then trying to give the budget away.
April 1st, 2008 at 5:45 am
Sounds like a good April Fool’s joke to me!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:53 am
Does no one read other posts before posting? LOL! Happy April Fools, fools! Carter: “Yeah they’re setting up a tent city at Lebreton Flats as-we-speak to store the snow” Classic!
April 1st, 2008 at 5:53 am
It’s sad that it’s believable that council would have passed/suggested this. I think the “snow sample” requirement was the icing on the cake!
Happy April Fool’s Day!
But seriously, it think it’s worse that we all actually believe it could be true! (That’s so very sad)
April 1st, 2008 at 11:36 am
Bah. I will never trust you 3 again.
Great prank guys!
April 1st, 2008 at 11:42 am
