So What do you think????
October 8th, 2008 by Kenny JonesSo the Edmonton Oilers have released the 3rd jersey for this year. It is a throw back to 30 years ago. Am I the only one who thinks this is a plot to make us the fans spend more cash?
The team will wear their new jersey in 14 games this season. The first time they’ll wear the new/old jersey is Sunday night in the home opener against Colorado. The Oilers will also wear it against the Original Six Teams as well as on the Glen Anderson sweater retirement night, January 18.
So what do you think let us know kenny.jones@rci.rogers.com or megan.mckenny@rci.rogers.com
A Letter from A Dad!!!
October 8th, 2008 by Kenny JonesHey, Kenny. How’s it going? Hope things are well.
I’m writing in to vent, I guess. I was listening to you and Megan on the show this morning, talking about the abduction of that 7 year old girl in Edmonton on Sunday. The whole scenario makes me sick. Crimes against children, in my opinion, are the most heinous crimes, and should be dealt with the most severely. This, however, was not the case for this man. This man was charged and found guilty of the same offences in the late 90’s. He sexually assaulted 5 girls and a boy, and was given (if I remember correctly) a measly 6 year sentence, with 10 years of supervision. He was released in 2006 (again, if I remember correctly) and turned loose on an unsuspecting public. This is a crime that never should have taken place. I’m glad the girl was found and that she came to no serious physical harm, or possibly worse (she will be emotionally scarred for the rest of her life), but the fact that our government and justice system let it happen in the first place by allowing a man they themselves dubbed a “long-term offender” is a crime in itself. The 10 years of so-called “supervision” was an effective deterrent in this case, wasn’t it? (note the sarcasm). I believe it’s time the justice system came up with a plan to deal with these societal vermin, and figured out a way to protect not only us, but especially our children. I could honestly say that if it were one of my children, I’m not sure I could exercise the strength necessary to allow the justice system of Canada to dole out the appropriate sentence, and keep me from exacting a little “frontier justice”. The very sad part of that would be that I would get a longer sentence for any retaliation than anyone who harmed my children would get for hurting and changing my child for the rest of their life. That’s not justice, that’s an injustice to every victim and law abiding citizen of this country. We are in a day and age where the rights of the victimizer are more important than the rights of the victim. It’s time for a change. I would like you, if you would, to ask the candidates at the forum this week when and to what measures are they willing to enact in order to protect the citizens, and most importantly the children of this country? I believe the government and justice system have an equal responsibility in regards to what happened. The man accused of this crime should be given the right of innocent until proven guilty, as is in our bill of rights, however, once he was deemed a long-term offender, he should have been kept in prison until such time as he is proven beyond any reasonable doubt that he can be a contributing citizen, and would never again commit these acts. This is just another case of our justice system forgetting what it’s like to be a victim. It’s time to make a stand, and to change things so that it is safe for our children to go to the park, for us to walk the streets, and for people in general to feel safe again. It’s time for a change, but does our government feel the same? Do something before this happens to another child.
Thanks for allowing me to stand on the soapbox for a bit.
We missed this today!
