Canoeing?
July 14th, 2008 at 11:44 am

July 14th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I know what it is thanks to Diana, but can’t seem to get the wording right. Any help there Diana? It would be appreciated. Thanks.

…to me it looks like some kind of metal hole-cover of some kind…
July 14th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Hey Jeff, how was your weekend in Niagara Falls? What’s that Bird Kingdom place all about?
Something tells me that we’ll soon be seeing some bird-related blog puzzles in the coming weeks.
Still no clue on the picture for today’s blog. It looks like a speaker without the screen part, but that doesn’t explain the metallic look to it.
July 14th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
GROAN, again no clue, I told Carly yesterday how Jeff makes me pop Avil trying to solve his photo blogs ! Got 2500 bonus points for yesterday’s visit, thank goodness, since I never seem to get any of these ones. I also got a great Budweiser backpack, a t-shirt adn cap with a staple in my house, bottle opener ! Could this be a pic of a coaster ? Anyway back to work with no clue on what the heck this is. Jeff, where is your clue ???
July 14th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
hey jeff … how’s about a clue!
July 14th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

No idea, yet…

July 14th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Diana, Is this Jeff’s glass in his front door?
July 14th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
I think someone went “all-in” to get those Eagles tickets on the Auctions page. That means there’s at least one person with more points than me. Good thing I’m not really into the Eagles.
July 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
It looks brass, maybe a door knocker, or a brass thingy for the wall?
July 14th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
I’m with Judi. I think I know what it is but am fussing with the 4 word answer.. Will keep plugging away.. nch
July 14th, 2008 at 2:18 pm

July 14th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

July 14th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
At the risk of sounding a little brassy today I have to tell ya that I got it. Jeff’s update did it for me and I didn’t even have to consult my brass .. I mean crystall ball.
July 14th, 2008 at 2:30 pm

July 14th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
been wondering where everyone is today
reason being there’s not much chatter on the blog
April’s missing, so’s A.Crostic and others
seems like i’m the only one with the answer
so far today, but Jeff’s left a really good clue…
July 14th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
if i go with the doorknob theory i dont know what the 4 words would be
anolddoorknob turningthedoorknob turnthedoorknob.
dumbasadoorknob it depends on whether it is a doorknob and if it is is doorknob 1 or 2 words. UGGG>
July 14th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
some kind of door knob, thinking!
July 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
You need to know what it’s made of.
1-5-4-4
July 14th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
1 - 5 - 4 - 4
July 14th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
door knob
July 14th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Is this a turn key operation?
July 14th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Wally - I thought the same as you! Other than that, I’m lost too.
Kudos Diana. And thanks for putting out some clues. Unfortunately they’re not making any sense to me yet…
Think, think, think…
July 14th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
I think this the back hanger for a door handle.
July 14th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
if doorknob is part of the puzzle is it considered one word or two?
July 14th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
I won tickets to see Judas Priest.
Clue:
Jeff’s porthole.
July 14th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Is it something to do with a closeup of speakers of a stereo, boombox or headset?
July 14th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
1 5 4 4
I have an urn made of this metal, and Jeff’s update should get you turned in the right direction.
July 14th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Another tough one!
Better get my thinking cap on.
Ready for a brewski now.
After this weekend’s one, it’s nice to get a simpler one.
Sometimes I look at these clues upside down.
Sometimes after a few too many brewskis!!
July 14th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
how many
letters in each word?
could the mottled material be cork?
could this be a microphone?
July 14th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
come on Jeff update. I didnt get downtothewire cause you didnt let anything thru till after i went to bed.. Please update sooner than later
July 14th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Jeff, seems to me you’ve worn the paint off that thing from opening and closing it so often!
Is it attached to the portal to where the beer fridge may be awaiting a visit, perhaps?
Or the darkroom?
Must be 20 or 30 in that home of yours, Huh!?
PLAY!
July 14th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Gimey, Gimey doesn’t get
Don’t you know you manners yet!
July 14th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
one day I am going to get all

four day week. Then I will only get
four of them.
~T
July 14th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Looks like a pencil, but it’s not gettheledout or gettheleadout.
July 14th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Wakey Wakey Jeff.
July 14th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
I thought it looked like a close-up of the button on my jeans, but I was wrong. This thing turns.
July 14th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Don’t worry, all, Jeff is awake!
One of the clues is from Diana.
One more from Jenny
Really easy if you think a bit.
Keep at it all of you.
No point in quiting now,
once you see the big picture, it will come to you.
Best to open the door to the other room and think a bit, and then come back.
July 14th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
what is the diameter of this entire mottled circle?
the word “turn” suggests it is a dial.
Is this part of an iphone?
Jeff please give us a clue, and let us know approximately how old this item is.
July 14th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Is it part of a camera?
2 - Is it part of a radio?
3 - is it part of a Guitar hero game?
4 - would I have one of these in my house?
July 14th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
Diana Im pretty sure i know what it is but is that 1 word or 2 words and what are the other words.I have no idea Nothing ive tried has worked i think im close but i was close to down to the wire also and i never got it either. Help.
July 14th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Am I correct in thinking that the first two words have the following number of letters -
1 - 5 - ? - ?
Is this item above my kitchen sink all of the time?
July 14th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
What a Knob I am today it took 5 1/2 brown pops for it to become clear I should have been looking at the wifes Brass monkeys for the opening power.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
I spun this so many times, and was close, but thanks to the clues, I was able to put it into perspective. Thanks everyone.
I used to pretend the ones at my grampa’s house were diamonds. All for me, I was rich…yeah I was high maintenance even as a kid.
Enjoy the evening, it’s a beaute!

ps - Spyderman, the Pinto was my mum’s…phew, that would be embarrasing…
July 14th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Is it a peep hole, a key hold or an old fashioned key?
July 14th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
sue, yes to #’s and no to sink.More like near the bathroom/bedroom.
And lots of ‘em.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
If you have little kids, you may cover these to keep them in or out of somewhere.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
I use “Pikal” to keep mine polished, Jeff.
What do you use, or does someone else do this for you?
Hmmm..
July 14th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Terri has a handle on this clue.
Stacey has the motion for the solution.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
What a knob I was to not get this earlier!
July 14th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
sue look at terri 5:54 for all the number of letters.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
yes sue, 1-5 for the first two words and 4-4.
I don’t think you’d find what you’re looking for at the kitchen sink.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Sue it doesn’t relate to a sink. 1-5-4-4 by the numbers
July 14th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
thanks tiberius I couldnt have gotten the answer without you.
the last 2 words in the puzzle are usually known by one word.
I knew what the object was as soon as I saw it and I feel like a
doorknob for not getting this descriptive answer earlier.
July 14th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
btw it is not part of a camera, radio, game component, cork, microphone, frypan, phone or running shoe.
I imagine that you might have one of these in your house if your house was really old or if you’re decorator was going for the antique look.
also, this item would fit comfortably in your hand and is usually known by one word not two
1 5 4 4
or
1 5 8
July 14th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Anything to do with A silent butler
July 14th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
Terri ~ Great way to get the numbers through in each word. You are a genius. Of course we all are, or we’re all insane!
July 14th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
thanks for the Kudos barbh
Nothing better than to get it first thing in the morning, because
Only then can real work get done in the office, not blog research ;0).
Better get the kids to bed now or it’ll take them forever to get to sleep.
Sandra, I forgot to thank you for the bonus code on the weekend…thanks those points sure helped get the points going again.
July 14th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Sue,
not above your kitchen sink.
1-5-4-4. i just got home from worK aNd gOt it first try But I can’t think of a clue that woulD gO through OR i would post it.
cheers
spyderman
July 14th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Got it!
Sue, yes, you are correct with the 1 - 5
but not the item above your sink.
Does it seem quiet
on the blog today?
Or is it that everyone is on holidays getting some
rest and relaxation?
July 14th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Hey Tibs,
Kickin’ back a few?
Nice work with your clue.
Only took me two minutes after reading it.
Brewskies for everyone!!!!!
July 14th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Jeff, I think you could use some Brasso cleaner, it works wonders.
July 14th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Diana thanks so much i reread your comments and it was right there in front of me like ages ago.
1-5-4-4
July 14th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Sue you’re close - 1-5-4-4, however, I can’t imagine this being over your sink, unless it was NOT being used for it’s original purpose.
Thanks Tiberius! Your clue made all the others fall into place for me.
Thanks Diana and Jeff too!
Actually, these are found in some better new homes as well, but they sure don’t look like the old one in Jeff’s pic. A really cool one Jeff.
July 14th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Thanks Tiberius: I got it after reading your first clue. My Grandmother’s home had these, turn them and still they don’t open. Pretty bad when you had to go to the washroom when your little.
July 14th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
RE yesterday:
Sandra & Kath - thanks for helping with the points yesterday!
Louie - that was such a great clue that I could almost smell the marshmallows toasting. (Wishful thinking…)
Ron, your clue about really, really wanting something from your parents made me remember begging my parents for something (usually for sweets, toys or to stay up late) and that cinched it for me. Thanks!!!
July 14th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
BarbH, you mean I actually left a useful clue the other day? There’s a first time for everything!
Thanks for the clues, Tiberius especially.
July 14th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Terri @ 732. you helped the penny drop. I was close… but was coming in third for bronze… ok I know… close but not quite.
July 14th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Something to do with A brass door keys.
Jeff if you would let more clues through in the morning, I would have solved your puzzle by now.
Your update clue turned me off.
