UPDATE: Greetings from Niagara Falls. And, thanks to both Jason & Nathan (hotel staffers) for helping me to get on-line here at the absolutely gorgeous Crowne Plaza (Brock Hotel). Old school! And, what a view. Just came from breakfast, up next….we’re off to Marineland with the kids. Following that, Bird Kingdom. Might have to stop along the way for a cocktail.
SOLUTION: prettypleasewithacherryontop
Code is good all weekend, Jeff’s Morning Poll goes all weekend too….we’re wondering if excessive cocktailing may have lead to a little tomfoolery…nudge, nudge…tell us about the strangest place you ever got lucky.

You rock Kathy! Now what do I do with my whole free weekend?
We complain when we can’t get it and when we get it too early on Fridays! LOL Maybe if everyone gets it early and Jeff is bored this weekend we can get a bonus pic again! He is such a good man I am sure he will keep it in mind.
Have a great one all!

I prefer sugar…easier on the digestion.
I could use one of those cocktails right about now, it’s one of those mornings. I think I’d polish it off in one drink, garnish and all…
Enjoy your weekend!

Kids today don’t use this saying. I asked my sons if they knew it and they said they heard it on a cartoon. Probably a thirty-year-old rerun of the cartoons we used to watch. I find that kids today are not up on their vocabulary and sayings like we were. They rush ahead with this “advanced” curriculum and they can’t even write cursive. Most of the kids in my eldest son’s grade 9 class can’t write cursive. Can you believe they will go into the business world not knowing how to write cursive? His grade 9 English teacher was not very impressed that his class couldn’t write cursive. He said I guess it’s too late now. I guess they can print their notes and email the rest.
Anyone else find that.
Sorry I usually don’t go off in another direction like this but this really is something I wish we could get the Minister of Education to look at.
Please Mr. Education Minister help our kids to learn cursive.

Sorry they give them a mini lesson on cursive and then don’t expect them to use it and don’t practice it.
It’s like exposing them to ancient greek writing.
July 11th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Nice one Jeff!

I am a Manager of a minor hockey team. When I ask the players to sign the roster…….yes, they print their names. I can never believe that. These boys are 14 years old! I have to repeat myself and ask them to sign their names and they look at me not quite understanding what I am asking them! I have to say though, when my youngest was in CASA graduating to Grade 1 in a Montessori school, they weren’t going to pass him because he couldn’t write cursive! I have to say he is in Grade 6 now and has a beautiful hand writing. Extremes……

We have that problem with my son’s soccer team Cathy. He is also 14. My daughter just finished grade 3 and they were suppose to learn cursive this year and of course didn’t. Now I am making her learn it this summer with me and she is not happy about that but I don’t want her to fall behind or never learn it. I have large beefs with the education system these days so don’t get me started as well!
July 11th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
thanks kath….pleased the weekend is now here….looks like a pretty day too.

This is (or usd to be) a common phrase that when parents asked their kids what they wanted on their ice cream, this was their answer.
Hope this helps,

Ok, I hadn’t read the poll and thought where’s all this randiness coming from on the blog? I keep low key and it turns into a freakfest here, but then I saw the poll and thought ohhhhhkay, now I see. Since we’re airing dirty laundry - Christmas eve, in a Ford PINTO in the parking lot opposite Avondale Plaza, considering the history of that particular vehicle, I’m surprised kharma didn’t blow the car up. I hope by now God and Santa have forgiven my sins

Kath, great clues, and Christine, 1 of my kids only uses this phrase when he REAlly wants a new video game. And my kids look at writing as a chore/homework they don’t have to do.
In MY house they do.

You’re right, Christine! Kids don’t seem to use this expression anymore. I haven’t heard anyone use it in a long time. (Even jokingly.)
Happy Brithday Kim. Hope it is a great one. It sounded like it started off good anyway.

Hi Guys: I haven’t been on here lately, I too have had problems with our computer. I do think its the websites we research for our daily fix. Oh by the way, my husband, myself and one guest went to see Absolute Comedy act in Toronto. These were the 6 tickets I won from Jack. What a show, too bad all the other people backed out prior to the show. I should have put out a notice to the Jackters on the plog. They would have come and enjoyed themselves. We know how to party!!!! The show was excellent, my abs. are still hurting today from laughing. If your in Toronto anytime you should checkout the Absolute Comedy club at 2335 Yonge street. You do have to book before you go and tickets are $10.00. Hey we should all attend then we can meet. Janice
July 11th, 2008 at 8:15 pm

thanks spyderman thought i had the last 5 right and you confirming it made it easier. Then i went back and reread all the comments and the light came on. My kids dont say that either. Please yes but not the other part at least not since they were very little. I agree with you guys about cursive writing. Everything is typed these days so kids are loosing that skill. Sad.

July 12th, 2008 at 9:53 am
Jeff, is that a clue? If it ain’t, then you should’ve said 9.65 kilometres instead of six miles, since we live in a metric society.
Then again, I still refer to pounds and feet when I’m talking about weight and height respectively.
July 12th, 2008 at 10:08 am
spyderman thank you again you pretty much gave me the answer and i didnt even realize it. You guys all ROCK. Without your help i wouldnt get most of these. Thanks again and have an AWESOME weekend.

Most of these clues are pathetic.
Just dumb guessing
How are you supposed to solve a puzzle like this?
July 12th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Just back from NY State (Steely Dan in the Finger Lakes, kind of a Molson Ampitheatr clone there)….memo to Claire, that was not me passed out at that concert way back when. Thinking about your clue too but I can’t think in a Chalsmerian way today.
July 12th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
I meant to write “Chalmersian”. I’ll be ok, sitting on the Queenston/Lewiston bridge for an hour in today’s heat destroyed my brain cells for the day. Will examine the clues later.

Unbelievable, I just figured it out from staring at the picture. I don’t know, kids would say this phrase back in our day (when we really really wanted something), but do they say it now?
July 12th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Don’t blame this Nancy for the other Nancy’s comments. I haven’t got it either but why is she trying to make it difficult for everyone named Nancy? Or does he/she just use the name so I take the fall when their frustrated?

Hello dear bloggers and of course Mr. Chalmers. Now Jeff, you should not be asking us bloggers where we did the hanky panky. I would not ask you.
You should be ashamed of yourself. I like how you answer other bloggers
and not me. Do you think this is fair? You say you took your children out
for the weekend, you mean your parents took you out with your children.
I would like to know what your family thinks of this Jeff. Please try not to
have to many cocktails Jeff because we need you here on Monday. You still did not say if you went to Ching park on July 1st. I guess Jeff will answer me when this chap decides it is convenient for him. I still think Jeff
is a cool dude. I had my two oldest children here last weekend and my dear 13 year old baby was very thrilled. The youngest one is going to Newfoundland for vacation soon and she will going to school there for her grade 9. It will be safer for her there.
July 12th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Dear Mr. Jeff Chamlers, since you are going to keep this blog going all weekend, maybe you could learn some Newfoundland English. I dare you
to answer me first. I did say I would teach you some Newfoundland English. This Jeef guy is really smart dear bloggers.
July 13th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Hey Sonjia…no, didn’t make it to Ching….and I’m afraid I don’t know too much Newfoundland English either….I do enjoy east coat beer, however. Does that count? Pass around the Keith’s….and thanks for blogging, eh?
July 13th, 2008 at 10:31 am
KATH,
Thank you very much for the countdown bonus code
July 13th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Youre welcome Lori glad i could help someone as everyone always helps me too. Jeff you ever been to Great Wolf Lodge if not you should go one time Great place for kids and adults alike. Say hello to the Belugas.
July 13th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Hmmmmmmm, the “Nancy” strikes again! Don’t worry NancyM, I know you are a nice person (like me!) Some people just cannot enjoy themselves without bringing others around them down. Just ignore it and have a BLAST doing Jeff’s Mind Twisters!
Hoping EVERYONE is having a GREAT weekend!!!!!
July 13th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
The countdown bonus code that Kath mentioned was from the TV show, but the radio one was different. Here’s a clue:
It’s what people make to keep warm on a beach or outside a cottage or tent, and it’s also what people on the TV show Survivor make to cook their food or boil water. One word (sometimes two) - eight letters.
July 13th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Hey Nancy @ 5:40 p.m
Couldn’t you think of a better clue to help out your fellow bloggers other than “pathetic” and “dumb”????
If you keep thinking like that in life you will NEED a whole bunch of those little thingies pictured in the puzzle.
If the blog is too hard for you to figure out, then ASK NICE and we will try to help. But if it is too frustrating for you then maybe better check out some other online activity.
Nancy, just use your head! It’s the little things that count
July 13th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Hi guys just came back from montanas in richmond hill and met Carly and i think Enzo. bonus code is cookhouse. They both said they dont do Jeffs blogs too hard. Have a good one
July 13th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Saw the “Nancy” comments so thought I’d post something as I do occasionally put things on the blog under the name “Nancy”, but the July 12th 5:40pm post was definitely not mine either. So, now I’ll post under Nancy1 as the comments posted by this other Nancy were rather inappropriate and I wouldn’t want anyone thinking it was me.
I was able to get the puzzle on Friday do, in large part, to the rather fabulous clues left by fellow bloggers. It is often the clues posted on the blog that help me out, so thanks again to all of you who take the time to help with the puzzle solving.
July 13th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
To Sandra & Kath - many thanks for the bonus codes!

P.S. Feeling sorry for all the NANCYS on the blog, what’s with the crabby one? I think I work with her……UGH.
She’s so perfect…. I guess there’s no pleasing some people/machines.

Sandra,
thanks for the Montana’s code. I was pretty pleased to add that to my score this weekend.
Nancy1, NancyM & Nan: you’re most welcome… I’m glad I was able to help so many this weekend. with such a bad run for myself for the early part of the week… it was nice to get this one done early.
to the other Nancy… I hope that with all the clues out there about minding manners and asking for something nicely when we were kids it’s all come about for you.
