Ain’t Nobody Here But Us Chickens

aintnobodyherebutuschickens.jpg

Really interesting blurb in the Toronto Star yesterday on ‘backyard farming’. In the city. Chickens. In your backyard!

It seems that there are just three cities in Canada where it’s legal to keep chickens. Victoria, British Columbia, Niagara Falls, Ontario….and yes, Brampton!

How ’bout you? Would you ever consider it? Lots of work. Might be fun. What about the neighbours? Could lead to this….

  30. Cathy Says:

    Jenny,

The lyrics to the title of the picture is actually a song. “Aint nobody here but us chickens”. Not quite Jeff’s style of music though…….Again, no clue here.

  31. Donald W Says:

It would be tragic to not get this one.

  32. Claire Says:

I entered some answers I thought were not it at 8:52, but Jeff is not letting them through.

Hey Mr. Chalmers, could I be on the right track?

I was also thinking that the way Jeff wrote the word
’bout, could it have something to do with fighting?

    Help us Jeffy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. Danny Says:

Finally an easy one! Chickens, hens, poultry are hip, I don’t care what anybody says! :)

  34. April Says:

    Hey RobL,

I hope you had a chance to read our thanks from me and Claire Friday night that we left you. If not please go back and do so as we were so profoundly grateful for sticking it out with us. You’re a true blogging friend and thanks again. We owe you one.

    Louise,
    I also answered you too!!!

Good afternoon Diana, Sandra, Lee Ann and Claire!!
Keep plucking away, we’ll eventually get it!!

    Thanks Karen,
I’ll go back and check and see which blog it was and write you, okay? Later!

    April

  35. jdking Says:

It’s tragic that Jeff puts up such hard clues on a Monday when he could just as easily put up an easy one. A clue for you all: MUSIC PEOPLE, MUSIC , think album title!!

  36. sandra Says:

Me to Cathy Lots of songs about farms and chickens and stuff but hopefully Jeff sticks to rock and doesn’t all of a sudden go country on us.

  37. sandra Says:

Ralph do you have any other clues

  38. jdking Says:

    Another clue,7-2-3-8 letters.

  39. Karen Says:

    Nope not that song, Cathy.

  40. jdking Says:

Does anyone know where I can buy some coconut creAm? I went to the local Gift shop (thinking it would be a specialty item), but could not find any. I have this great thai recipe, but until I find some, I can’t make it, , I guess I will have to pUt it off until I can find some.

  41. Rebecca Says:

Don’t go looking for songs about farms or chickens see Meagan at 9:53 am.

  42. Louise Says:

    Hey April,
I did read your note written at 3:48 pm on May 4th, 2008. I’m back for more “torture” as we all are. Luckily my position at work allows me some free time to do some research. Haven’t come up with anything yet. Going back to the drawing board.

    Think, think, think.

  44. sandra Says:

Hi April Hope you had a good weekend Looks like its going to be a long one today again.

  45. Rob L. Says:

    April and Claire;
Yes I did read your comments and was truly touched by them. I realised that you did solve it earlier than I had initially noted due to the moderation delay.
And, PLEASE, you owe me nothing. On the one part I did it with no strings attached and secondly, I was only able to help because of the work of others. It was Amber who turned on the light for me with her morning clue.
But, you said it best when you refered to me as a true blogging friend. I honestly am impressed by the bond and commeradery that has formed within this small community and am I honored to have you refer to me as a friend. I thank you once again for your kind words and thank the sadistic Mr. Chalmers for making all this possible.

  46. jdking Says:

Aw come on Jeff, couldn’t you post at least ONE of my clues?? Come on everyone, say it with me LET MY CLUES THROUGH…LET MY CLUES THROUGH!!!!

  47. April Says:

    SAndra and Louie,

Thought I had it with this answer, especailly with whta’s going on in the news these days, “a bird flu epidemic” but no such luck!!! Guess, I’ll have to research some chicken songs and I do have a feeling that it MUST be a country song too!!

HAS ANYONE GOT THIS YET, JUST WONDERING WHO THE BRILLIANT ONES ARE SO EARLY IN THE GAME??? LOL!!!

    April

  48. Polly Says:

Claire, I’d say yes, if Jeff won’t let your wrong answers through you’re very close. I wouldn’t dwell on “fighting” though…much more general of a term that may or may/not include fighting depending on the circumstances

  49. April Says:

    NOT
    a fowl smelling neighbourhood!!

    LOL

    April

  50. Diana Says:

Like you Louise I am fortunate enough to be able to sit at my desk, in my own office, and spend a good portion of working hours trying to figure these picture blocks (an obsession I tell you). I’m also fortunate enough to have speakers on my monitor so that I can listen to my music at work, which of course is 92.5JACKfm.

    Rock on!

  51. Karen Says:

  59. Denis Says:

It’s funny what will trigger a thought, I was reading through the blog comments having no clue as to what the answer might be. Then I saw Karen’s 12:33 coment saying that her 9:47am comment got let out of jail. That triggered something in my noodle and I gave it a try. I can’t really say what it was about the clue that did it because the connection isn’t that obvious. This definitetly fits Jeff’s style and is not as obscure as you might think.

So a big thank you to Karen, for triggering a thought.

  60. Nick Says:

no fowlneighbours…henparties…or cockfights (as in roosters!!!!)

  61. Donald W Says:

  70. April Says:

    Karen,

I was just going to ask you whether or not you got it as it looked like you did, but Denis just confirmed that for me, so is there anyway that you can give me a clue as the artist or band?

    Same to you jdKing?

    RobL,
You are truly a sweeteheart as you REALLY didn’t need to stay and help us and you did, that why I call you a friend, because only a friend would do something like that, especially so late at night. BTW it was Amber’s clue that gave me the band name and then the answer too!!

    Always here for anyone,

  96. Denis Says:

The trouble with giving clues is that Jeff has control on when and what gets included in the comments. I guess you could say that this is his house and he controls the dialog. Jeff is clever and I believe he enjoys chalenging and watching all of us try to figure out his riddles and also figure out how to possibly slip a clue past him. I have seen it in the past, a clue slips through and then dissapears, only to re-appear later on.

    JEFFY!!! Let me out!

Have been on google with everything I can think of, and nothing yet.

My 8:52 MUST have something in it, I just don’t know what it could be.

April, Sandra, RobL, anybody on to anything yet?

I don’t even know if is, “music people” or not.

Well, let’s hope at least this gets through since there are definitely no clues here.

I’ll keep working at it, and let you know if I come up with anything :).

BTW, how many of you guys are having chicken for dinner tonight? That’s what is in my oven right now, lol.

  111. Jennifer Says:

Think of a 70’s board game with a dice in a bubble that you press on when taking your turn. The letters in each word are 7,2,3,8.

  112. mara Says:

Jeff, you asked, and yes, I’ve had them for years…red hens!!
A real pleasure… you could call it work, sure, I prefer to call it
exercise, going back and forth several times a day with table scraps
and collecting big brown eggs with orange yolks! They make a gorgeous sponge cake…deep golden colour! It’s a bit trickier in the winter, trudging
the 300 feet in snow that’s deeper than my boots to bring them fresh
water, and then smashing the blocks of ice in their water bowls.
I’m in an urban area (didn’t know I was breaking any laws), and
I’ve never had problems with my neighbours. In fact, I can always
count on them to collect the eggs when I’m away.
My worst experience with them was two years ago, when I went back
there to find my flock of six all dead, with bite marks in their necks.
The culprit turned out to be, of all things, a mink! We got him good though
(perhaps breaking a law in the process)!

    (no hidden clues here)

  113. Polly Says:

    Foxinthehenhouse is close, RiffBoyRob

Diana - I’ve got the answer but I don’t know of a song called that.

  116. Louie Says:

I got a late start to this puzzle today, but from reading all the clues, I still can’t figure it out. I’m guessing there’s nothing too eggceptional and no eggcitement on here just yet. Guess I’ll try again after dinner. I think we’re having chicken! LOL

    No clues here!

  117. sandra Says:

is the song title the same as the album title

  118. Tiberius Says:

  120. April Says:

    Hi Steve,

Any luck yet on your end?

    How about you Sonjia?

    RobL, Sandra, Karen, Claire,
I’m lost as it sounds like the only one that has it is CHRISTINE and no clue there (that I can see), and REBECCA who’s trying but with one word answers, and JACK and DENIS also know but haven’t given a clue yet (as Jeff says, it’s hard to get through moderation, but we’ll take anything, so please try anything you can, which is better than nothing, right guys?), so I think we should ALL E-MAIL JEFF AND ASK FOR ANOTHER CLUE, WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK??

    PINE and LOUISE,

Can you provide me (us) with anything, PLEASE??

    Thanks,
    April

    P.S. JEFF CHALMERS SIR,

How’s it going Sandra and April?

Sandra, you not being able to clean the house is sounding VERY familiar. I think a lot of us can relate, LOL.
It seems that Jeff has become my drug of choice!!!
My mind has been blank the last week or so. I feel like I am not clueing in til late in the evening. So I go around all day just thinking and talking to myself about the blog and what the answer is. Oh well, I love the challenge :)

I’ve sot my son hooked now too (but he won’t admit it, he is in denial). But I can tell when he is online first thing in the morning and MSN’s me with some tidbit about the photo, lol.

ANYHOOO, I need some clues from out there, that will make me see the light. Anybody? Anything?

Looks like I’m missing something, not sure what. I see that Jeff hasn’t given us another hint since early this afternoon. Guess he likes to see us suffer. Will keep trying. Good luck to all.

  134. Karen Says:

Sometimes I think it’s better to start working on it in the evening, Jeff seems to let a lot of good clues out of moderation after 7pm (things that he’s been holding back since 9 in the morning)

Claire - I had that happen to once early in the morning I just randomly typed something and had 3 out of 4 words right. Of course Jeff wouldnt let it out of moderation but I had no clue about what part of what I said was right. Maybe if you read from the beginning you may see a recently released clue that will make you think of something.

  135. Ron Says:

Well well well, now I know why my comment didn’t get through. Must have missed a letter beforehand. 300 smackeroos thank you very much.

  136. Ron Says:

    Any down on that chicken?

  141. Christine Says:

  143. Puckhead Says:

Hear my wife’s having a problem solving this riddle.
Is there any way someone can help please?
Perhaps Mr. Chalmers can let some of the moderated clues loose?

    Thanks, eh!

  144. Rebecca Says:

  145. Karen Says:

  146. Puckhead Says:

to all my fellow hockey fans….any idea what’s going down at the ACC now that the Laffs are golfing? Wonder if there are any good concerts lined up. I remember going to the very first concert at the ACC….can’t wait to see another. Perhaps JACk will be giving away some tickets soon. Mind you, it’s getting nice out, so I guess I’ll wait for tickets at the Amphitheater.

  147. Ralph Says:

Jim - no Free Bird, no Lynard Skynard.

  148. Tiberius Says:

Can’t get one thru, have courage, we can fry this feathered beast.

  149. sandra Says:

    brampton also has 7 letters

  150. Diana Says:

So who’s moderating at this time of evening for Pete’s sake? It’s tragic that so many have left comments that are still stuck in moderation. I myself have many being held in limbo…..so much for helping others out today. Perhaps Jeff will post some before he goes to sleep.

  151. Jack E Says:

something might be going on at there, I mean out the re?

  152. sandra Says:

  155. Rob L. Says:

  156. Rob L. Says:

    Sandra;
I don’t want to start with trouble, but Brampton has 8 letters….

  157. April Says:

  161. Lynda Says:

Tragically I was having trouble with my hip earlier, but it seems to be better now.

  162. sandra Says:

i think im going to have to admit defeat on this one. My first I think im really close as half my guesses are staying in moderation but i just cant put it together the right way. one person says its a song title another doesnt think it is so now im more confused. is it just some random saying.

  163. Diana Says:

Hey Denis, it is actually a song title, from my hubby’s favourite bands
    ;0)

  164. sandra Says:

april are you still with me

  165. sandra Says:

  166. April Says:

    Hi again RobL,

Just to let you know, I did a “search” on the word fabuous and it is indeed a word and refers to a “fabuous flurry of pheasants” so obviously he meant to write it and it was not a typo!!!

    FUI,
    April

  177. Claire Says:

    Still at it everybody?

    Time to think about
helping all you fellow bloggers this
    evening, since your clues

in moderation jail, or should i say the
    peanut gallery. :)

  178. andrew Says:

I have this sharp pain in my hip, that won’t go away.

  179. kath Says:

  181. Jeannine Says:

  182. Diana Says:

    Cheers!
    Diana

  183. April Says:

ROBL, SANDRA, PINE, CLAIRE & LOUIE,

FINALLY, thanks LEE ANN (helped me the most, REALLY), ROBL at 2:37 p.m.(even though he didn’t know it), DENIS, and KAREN’S at 9:47!!! Do all you have the answer now? I “FULLY COMPLETELY” believe that you can get this one. I’ve had it “UP TO HERE” with Jeff holding back the comments we make as it makes it a lot easier on people who do have lives and other things to attend to beside the blog which can take all day.

    DENIS,
I agree with your 7:23 p.m. comments that it is NOT a song title, so obviously, it’s an album title BUT would you be so kind tomorrow as to explain to me what the: more numbers 2 17 18 29…. and what that has to do with the answer. I got the 7,2,3,8, but not the 2nd half, so I’d really appreciate it if you could tell me on the blog demain (tomorrow for those who didn’t know.)

Because it takes so long to go through every comment and quote every person who helped me get this, (as I did the few that I remembered above) please don’t be mad at me, can I just say thanks to everyone tonight as I’m way past the point of being comfortable, BUT if ROBL or CLAIRE, still don’t have it, let me know and I promise (after what you did for me Friday) that I’ll stay and try and help. I’m sure that LEE ANN is back from the “LAST CHANCE SALOON” by now and may be able to help you too!!

READ this blog carefully and you should get the answer if you READ the clues!!

Don’t know what’s up with Jeff as he’s holding back my blog’s tonight at 9:42 and 10:13 p.m.and they aren’t even riddled with clues, so I have no idea what’s going on.

Hopefully he’ll update this before it gets too late.

Thanks to my friends and fellow bloggers,
    April

  184. Louie Says:

Sandra, I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure “Brampton” has 8 letters.

Damn, it took me a long time, but I finally got it. I’m going to thank Tiberius for his 4:23 post, Karen at 9:08 for pointing out Tiberius’s post, everyone who mentioned the 7/2/3/8 combo, and also to everyone who mentioned “sisters” or “female.”

For anyone else who is still stuck, translate “poulailler” from French to English and that should help you, especially if you love Gord Downie.

  185. Rita Says:

thank you Puckhead, that was a great concert!!!

  186. Jeannine Says:

    it’s 246am and I’ve got nothing!!!!!!!!

  187. Lee Ann Says:

Hey Diana - thanks it was your clue that made the light go off for me yesterday. In answer to your question, no my teacher’s name is Neona (not her given name). I is feeling it a little today - first softball game of the season was Sunday night on top of it all.

Danny’s clue about hip poulty must have been in hades for most of the day, that would have been a big hint.

Thanks Karen, relieved I got it too, it was starting to put me in a fowl mood :P …hehehehe… glad you got it April!

    Later gang!
    L. A.

  188. Rob L. Says:
