The Trees
Near The Rose Theatre, Brampton - Last Week

Have you seen these around the GTA? What’s the deal with all these ‘tree sweaters’, anyway?
I was actually reminded of a recording artist after having spotted this one. You?

May 1st, 2008 at 7:26 am
Good morning all - eeew what’s that smell, oh it’s the Habs! Pauvre April - I feel for you and Habs fans, I do. Trust me, as a Leafs fan, defeat and disappointment are emotions we’ve come to deal with for far too long. This round has been very unpredictable. Could it be the year of the underdog?
Ok, this must be a record y’all. I just got the clue. It’s probably the EARLIEST I’ve ever done so.
Jeff thanks for that little blurb about the photography expo going on this month. I’m totally into photography, so hopefully I get the chance to check it out!
Alanr, I’m glad you got a chuckle yesterday about the mashed avacado, but so’s not to steal creative licence, that was actually Louie who said that originally. So props, where props are due.
Cheers!

New band? Oldies?
I too am a Leafs fan, but I do want the cup in Canada:)
May 1st, 2008 at 8:17 am
um. I’ve never seen such a thing. why would you put a sweater on a tree? sorry I just don’t get it.
no clues here. I just don’t know where this is heading.
btw, if anyone can drop hints as to today’s 925 songs that would be lovely. I’m off to work and wont be back til 10 ish tonight. (keeping in mind yesterdays reminder of the rules from JC). ta
May 1st, 2008 at 8:39 am

May 1st, 2008 at 8:59 am
I would like to see the cup in Canada as well.
A clue, let’s see…I thought of one earlier, but it would be a dead giveaway. How about a diamond in the rough of sorts.

Mr. Rogers? Wrong neighbourhood?
Guess I’m barking up the wrong tree.
I too have looked up every sweater/tree song and artist.
May 1st, 2008 at 9:14 am
I think this is a woman singer. the sweater is kinda shaped liked a women’s butt (a small one) or bosom maybe?

May 1st, 2008 at 9:57 am
Don’t forget to go to YOUR OPINION and then go to MAY STATION SURVEY.
You can get 500 points.
92.5 needs your feedback whether it is good or bad.
No clue here.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:03 am
Got it. Don’t you remember someone wearing something that looks a little like this? Absolutely no trees involved. Think person with a similar article of clothing.
BTW - I replied yesterday, Heather and April but my post did not go through so I guess it’s not something that I’m allowed to talk about on here.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:08 am
not Twiggie (Lesley Hornby)
May 1st, 2008 at 10:13 am
It is not Justin Timberlake.
Lee Ann, is it a new band or a 1990s band?
May 1st, 2008 at 10:18 am
my daughter(21)thought it was the red hot chili peppers as they used socks over certain body parts in one video. to many words though tried chili peppers no go.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:20 am
WAAAAAAAAAH - my HABS lost last night - not looking good! I hope they can do what they did last year against Boston and come back from 3 games down (I know they are only 2 games down, but they need to win 3 in a row now). The refs gotta start call Philly more on all their cheap shots and dirty tacktics.
To Spyderman, April, Claire, and RobL: Nice to know I have follow HAB friends out there!
To John Daniel: that is hilarious. I came across this one with my 8 and 4 yr boys - http://www.mrmen.com/us/?deeplink=mrtickle - click on the game button - my wife and i were laughing out *sses off and the kids were saying, “what’s so funny?”
As for today’s Photo-Block, I mean blog, no clues from me yet.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:21 am

May 1st, 2008 at 10:26 am
Looks the right size for a Paris Hilton dress, but I don’t know of anyone that can call her a recording artist…
May 1st, 2008 at 10:27 am
Hey Guys, I’m sorry, I’m trying to throw you a bone, but I’m afraid I’m stuck in Hades…story of my life, lol.
Not a band or a lead per se, but it’s leaning more toward the latter than the former.
As a side-bar after guessing. I did a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and came up it as well. But that’s too complicated.

I’ve never seen tree sweaters!
no idea on this one!
May 1st, 2008 at 10:36 am
time for a clue please Jeff
May 1st, 2008 at 10:41 am
Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul will help you but Simion Cowell won’t.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:44 am
Jeff is REMINDED of this recording artist, because this recording artist is no longer recording anything these days!!
May 1st, 2008 at 10:51 am
i tried a couple of long shots….Averl Lavine, Sporty Spice, Mariah Carey, Bin Laden and Vince Neil. None worked.
Robert Plant??? I’ve seen thousands of pictures of the guy and I’ve never seen him wearing leg warmers
May 1st, 2008 at 11:03 am
Y’all kind of sounds like someone from the southern states and earliest might mean not recent music…maybe 40 years ago?
May 1st, 2008 at 11:06 am

May 1st, 2008 at 11:10 am
Courtney love, Celine Dion it’s not.
May 1st, 2008 at 11:20 am
Hey all, I think sweaters go on trees to protect them from the elements. Sort of how the rose was protected by glass in The Beauty and the Beast movie.

Nick,
Your clue yesterday was only posted at 1:41 p.m. (and kept in moderation) and I had already got the answer and then I posted a clue (also held in moderation) about Cindy Crawford too at 2:03 p.m. Too bad they didn’t go through as I’m sure everyone would have guessed the answer, but that’s what JEFF’S here for, right? ANyways, have a great day and thanks for your help.
LEE ANN,
I know, I want a Canadian cup too, BIG LOSS for Montreal and hope they can come back, but looks bleak!! Do you have any clues for us today?
Later fellow bloggers,
April
May 1st, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Hey Louie,
Thanks again for yesterday and the clues, it was nice chatting with you, See you later on the blog.
Good morning Claire,
How’s your search going? Any leads yet? I’m still investigating but will let everyone know if and when I get it.

May 1st, 2008 at 12:34 pm
it looks like a dress for me and bobby magee!
May 1st, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Well, it’s not Meryn Cadell. She had a hit song back in the early 1990s called “The Sweater” that I just viewed the video for on YouTube. Kinda hard to believe I liked that song, but I liked a lot of weird songs back then, including stuff that they’d never play on Jack FM. But let’s not go there! LOL
Anyone have any other clues?
May 1st, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Hi April: Yeah I answered you back @8:37 p.m. yesterday. Today’s puzzle is hard, I think we should say that they are really hard so he will take it easy on us.

I’m actually in this recording artist’s discography, twice.
The first time alone; the second time more legendary, and boxed in!

Spyderman is good. You should lisson to him. I wonder if he has any older brothers.
May 1st, 2008 at 1:29 pm
April, sorry about the confusion yesterday regarding my post at 5:16 pm. I just get hungry in the afternoon, and I remembered about Pizza Pizza having some charity thing that I wanted to remind everyone about. I mean, if you can help a charity by just ordering some food, then it’s a win-win situation for everyone. And as luck would have it, I got myself a nice slice of cheese pizza that had a crispy crust, which is very rare for Pizza Pizza.

I agree, today’s is a hard one, but I always try until I get it, so I guess it will be a long day, oh well, c’est la vie!!
Good afternoon SANDRA,
How’s your search going?

May 1st, 2008 at 1:40 pm
So are we looking for a thing? a person? the name of a band? HELP!
May 1st, 2008 at 1:50 pm
This is really bad, I don’t have a clue today, and just found out I have insulted April, probably the most popular person on this blog. Need some real easy clues, and April please accept my apologies. April, if you get the answer laugh at me, I’ve even tried Perry Como to no avail.
May 1st, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Ok I am new to this site and my last two emails are in Moderation. So I will try this one again. Let me just say that the answer is from before Cobain, and grunge. See it this one goes through.
May 1st, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Ted at 9:57am thanks for pointing out the May Station survey.
I will answer the survey at the end of the day.

May 1st, 2008 at 2:39 pm
To anyone who knows the answer…How many letters in each word?
May 1st, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Hey Jacksters,
Decided to do some research on the “tree sweater” thing. If you have a moment check out this site: http://homepage.mac.com/esbradford/PhotoAlbum5.html
Somebody had a lot of spare time on their hands. Still nothing - not sure where Jeff is going with this one today.

hey Jeff,
in future when you have a morning poll regarding sports, politics or probably most topics you really need to include an “I don’t care” option to the list of choices.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:03 pm
This is really pretty easy if you think tree huggers and simplier times maybe.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Notice in his clue is says Knit one so what comes next —- two maybe
May 1st, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Jeff, you call THAT a clue?!
Ok folks, clearly we’re being punished for the relative ease of yesterday’s puzzle. Still though, holy crap! What in the F*%! does one knit for the bloody backyard, and what does it have to do with a recording artist?
There have been no clues from Lee Ann since she first said that she had solved it. We can only assume that The Man got to her. Fight the power, Lee Ann!! We’ve got your back-no, wait! Hey look, something shiny!
May 1st, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Alanr,
In regards to your posts yesterday at 2:22 p.m. and mostly 3:34 p.m. about April, I don’t think you’re being very polite and totally disagree with you when it comes to your comments which were just plain mean spirited.
I’ve read people that CUSS JEFF out because his blogs are so hard and they get SO MAD thay they threaten to quit going to his blog all together and also complain about the measly points. There are a LOT of people on the blog that get FAR more angrier than her and A LOT OF THEM lash out. At least she’s always polite to everyone, thanks them, and as soon as she gets the clue, she tries to help out everyone else, and as the other bloggers do, she’s asks for a clue when she needs one, and people are always there to help her out, so that must tell you something?
So why not be a gentleman and keep your nasty comments to yourself in the future as this blog does not need them.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:13 pm
I am still woking on the clue. I even went to Bubby Holly, but it did not work.
Hi, April. Try to take it easy. I know it is easier said then done.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:13 pm

May 1st, 2008 at 3:14 pm

May 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
First word five letters, second word six letters. I have about 6 or 7 clues that won’t go through.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Pine, in answer to your question, first word = 5 letters, second word = 6 letters. (Sorry, all my other comments are still stuck in another era, also known as Jack FM’s moderation.)
May 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Seems all my reply’s are in moderation. How do you get of it this. Jeff keeps it as tight as a clam. Or is it OYSTER
May 1st, 2008 at 3:21 pm
patiolanterns - no
May 1st, 2008 at 3:22 pm
I do not think April is an angry person, she does not feel well. I hope her doctor has her on the right medication to kill the pain. I believe she is worse off than I am. It is hard to find the right doctor to get anything done,
especially if the doctor will not do much about any situation.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Dear Zorro
knit one _ _ _ _ _ two
May 1st, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Can I put my request in of an easy puzzle tomorrow please! We leave tomorrow afternoon for my son’s soccer tournament in Grimsby so I won’t have all this time to put into guessing and I hate missing out on the points.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Oh ya Alice and I are also going to ride our rollerskates later. Anyone want to join us?
May 1st, 2008 at 3:36 pm

May 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm

sandra…great job on sneaking the clue by….once i figured out what your code was, it was like taking candy from a BABY and then watching them CRY!!
May 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Bette Midler.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:57 pm
Okay, I’ve tried lawn chairs, chair covers, seat covers, and nothing works!
By the way, you could knit a lawn chair then add some sort of stuff to make it stiff and be able to sit on it, so that’s why I guessed it. Heck, with Jeff’s blogs, you have to think outside the box a lot.
Jeff, is this a band, a solo singer, or a member of a band? Can any of you guys confirm that at least?
And was spyderman’s 7:48 am post a clue or a comment on the size of the tree sweater?
May 1st, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Roses are red, violets are blue.
May 1st, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Sandra I got your clue (11:58) but only after I knew the answer. It’s all about the first names there folks
May 1st, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Sandra at 11:58; thanks for the hint!
People, it is a musician, long dead.
She wore this type of outfit quite often, from the historical photos I have looked at. As for Jeff’s warning of yesterday;
Watch out for Big brother watching us swap clues.
You will end up in a Holding cell and be in bad Company.
May 1st, 2008 at 4:07 pm
read amber’s post closely
I too would like an especially easy one tomorrow. My baby is turning 6 and with grandparents coming over to visit it would be rude of me to sit online all day trying to solve puzzles.
May 1st, 2008 at 4:09 pm
Thanks Sandra at 11:58.
All Good Tries, I Did Them All Too!
Funny, huh!?

She is usually grouped along with two other very self destructive rockers …….
May 1st, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Douglas; I apologize to everyone. I like April, she is kind and generous. I was not referring to her with respect to being angry with Jeff, she just gets frustrated. Trouble is sometimes comments refer to more than one subject, I plead guilty myself. April has never threatened to leave and not listen to Jack anymore, nor have I. I am one of the worst for coming up with the answers, but appreciate the help we try and give each other. By the time I come up with the answers, my clues are useless. I respect Jeff’s genius, it’s way over my head and never meant any disrespect to anyone, especially April. Don’t know how my comments (from yesterday) were misconstrued so badly. Now, anybody including April, put me out of my misery today before I get into any more trouble.

May 1st, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Leg warmers, the 20 Minute Workout, A Tale of Two Cities (the knitting), break it to my grandma she’s damn near 80….that’s all that’s come to my mind so far…..
May 1st, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Why is every single post I’ve made today still in moderation even if there’s no clue in it? Trying to tell me something, Jeff?
May 1st, 2008 at 5:27 pm
My great dane might think that tree is Fee Fee… no clue here… Jeff let through some good clues here your killing me…..
May 1st, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Good afternoon everyone, just got home from work and figured I would try to lend a hand if Jeff lets this out from MOD hell.
Oh sweet mary, raise your hand, for a one night stand, with one good man. This is the last time, to call on me, oh misery!!
(my ode to DDD) lol,
Good luck!
May 1st, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Well, here I am again..staying behind at the office, reading the blogs, trying to figure out the clues.
Randy and Paula are and Simon isn’t??? American
Coloured glasses? Rose?
I can’t piece the two clues together.
Jeff, this is an insane addiction for “points”. I have young children at home who need me.
Time to pack it in - looks like another unanswered blog day…
Do you how disappointing it is not to get the answer!!!
At least Carly and Sam just give out bonus codes for points
May 1st, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I agree Dawn it sucks to know the answer and not be able to help
May 1st, 2008 at 5:51 pm
This typewritter tape is giving me a lot of trouble, to calm myself down, I think I’ll put some music on.
May 1st, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Pine, I have put out 5 or 6 clues but nothing goes thru.
May 1st, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Thank you Amber!!!
May 1st, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Hi All
Love this blog as Mr Walker would say Dyn-o-mite I must go my big brother’s pool company gets busy mostly in the summertime.
May 1st, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Oh Lord, I worked hard to get this one.
May 1st, 2008 at 6:29 pm
thanks terri
May 1st, 2008 at 6:40 pm
i already had it Andrew but thats an awesome clue. At 11:58 I tried to spell it out but i did it in a line instead of up and down and no one got it. I went under as Amber and did it up and down dont know how that one went. I think only Terri saw that one. Very hard to try and trick Jeff. Yours was brilliant.

I guess we should google every word he says cause if you google rose lyrics on this one you get the answer. I got the answer by trying different names and came up lucky but thanks to andrew now i know what the answer has to do with jeffs photo. Its easier to understand when you see the connection.
April have you gotten this one yet. Most of my clues are still in moderation hell where i think they are going to stay till tomorrow/.

Phew…it’s hot in here, hey I.T. guys & our puppet master, if I’m going to get sent to Hades, the least you can do is give me a jacuzzi, the very least some sunscreen! Sheesh…My previous 3 posts have been stuck in moderation since this morning. Trust me I’m not being greedy, no-non-no I really have tried…but I’m being held captive. Meanies…
I had to laugh at the Paris Hilton comment, at least a piece of would has more personality. And probably more talent.

HI SANDRA,
Just got back from doing my grocery shopping and they have hanging plants on sale for $9.99, and ROSES are $14.99 a dozen!! Time to start buying plants for the summer. YES, I got the answer and MORE as I see from a few people.
Here you go folks, to allof you that are still wondering, I’ll try my besy NOT to get moderated.
1) Forget anything about tree socks, it won’t help you get the answer.
2) Read what Jeff wrote RIGHT under the picture THEN look at the following clues:
A) Witchie’s at 11:20 a.m. (don’t even know if she has it, but she has mentionned a few words that WILL HELP guess the artist.)
B) Amber’s at 2:07 was the one that GOT IT FOR ME!!! DEFINITELY!!!
C) Andrew at 3:53 tells you who she is BUT then go to
D) Amber again at 4:15 and
E) irock at 5:35
D & E tell you who Bette Midler portrayed in!!
I feel confident that if you go through this slowly, you will find the answer.
I’ll send another clue with the amount of letters just in case he moderates it, so hopefully this one will go through. If you still can’t get it, PLEASE let me know and I’ll be glad to help anyway I can (without being put in moderation.) Heck, who knows, this might not even get out to you and I hope after today, that it DOES.

Jumpin’ Jacks!!! Thanks Karen & Amber!
Pine: 5 & 6
Just a note to Jeff: You’re a homeowner, you should understand,
with summertime coming and lots of yardwork to do, there’s not
alot of time to spend on these riddles!

Hi Louie,
No, I was a bit confused but thought that it could be on the up and up as Brantford is having the same thing for kid’s schools, if they get sponsor’s from their school, then 1/2 the price of any pizza ordered from “New Orleans Pizza” on May 5, 6. & 7th, go to all the different shcools, so I might go out and buy one myself (or order in!)
Hi PaulB,
I’m so sad that the Hab’s lost too and when they came back with those 2 quick goals I was elated and really thought they’d win it,, but to our dimay they didn’t, so we have to pray that they can pick up their game, PUT CAREY PRICE BACK IN THE NETS (as you don’t take someone out while they’re doing so well, don’t you agree?) and pray that they can pull off a HUGE upset and win the next 3 (I’ve started praying now, LOL) We’ll see what happens and keep the faith, right?
Your friend.

I used to fight with her all the time.
May 1st, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Thanks jdking. At least someone can make good correlations between clues and answers.
To everyone still trying. Try to answer Jeff’s question. I still have no idea how Jeff’s update clue relates. I don’t know whether we do this for “cheap thrills” or torture everyday.
May 1st, 2008 at 9:05 pm
OMG Louise,
I went and checked out the tree sweaters link… that’s freakin’ hilarious.
no clues here. still wondering
May 1st, 2008 at 9:10 pm
hey Pearl,
your earlier clue said this artist is no longer recording… are they no longer alive???
May 1st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Actually, I think the sweater is appropriate. I believe she always wore
them when performing.
May 1st, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Alanr,
I’m not sure if your first comment was sincere or not as all you did was make me feel like I was supposed to be be the blog’s favorite and that’s PURE nonsense!! EVERYONE on this blog ROCKS as far as I’m concerned as that’s why I love coming here, as we’re like 1 big family, trying to figure out JEFF’S crazy ass blog’s everyday. If it wasn’t for this blog, I don’t know what I’d do to keep my sanity some days. As far as I’m concerned, this is OVER and I’m NOT a hater, so IF you are TRULY trying to be sincere, then thanks.
Douglas,
Wow, don’t know what to say but THANKS so much, I really appreciate the nice words.
Sonjia,
You’re a sweetheart and I sure hope that you find the right doctor as it can take years to find the right one, so don’t give up (that’s my motto), but I know that there are days when you definitely feel like it, but don’t give into them, okay? Take care and talk to you soon,
April

To Paulb and other Habs fans;
This Dyed in the wool Habs fan has his fingers crossed (which accounts for all my typos.) Been a fan since the sixties. I’ve rooted for Toronto along the way, but a Piece Of My Heart stayed in Quebec, at least as far as hockey is concerned.

Hi April
Hellllooooooooo Jacksters! (Yeah I know Louise, that is YOUR word, but I really like.)
Got it finally! Had just about a half hour this morning on the computer, as I had a million things to do today. Just got online about an hour ago, so after reading all the clues it was right there for the picking! I used to love her music (showing my age, lol).
Thank you to Amber, Karen, Heather and everybody who left the great clues.
Amber and Sandra, you two were genius, sneaking those ones past Jeff.
Trust Me, most people must have the answer by now, but if you don’t, Just try a little bit harder.
Til tomorrow; gotta go check my hockey points now.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:29 pm
I’m with you Sandra and all the rest of you that are wondering what the heck Jeff’s update clue has to do with the answer, so MR. CHALMERS, can you please tell us tomorrow under the answer what exactly it has to do with it PLEASE as it’s frustrating when we get the answer but don’t know how to correlate it with your updates SOMETIMES!! Otherwise, you know we love ya JEFF, LOL!!! After all, how can you knit a person???
ONE BLOG LOVER,
April

Jeff, I have never seen a sweater on a tree before. I think this is funny.
I do not think anywhere else in Canada I would find somthing like this. You do have a sense of humor.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I would laugh at what the east coasters would have to say about this.

Jeff, I will have something for you soon and I want to know if you can get this. There is a part in Newfoundland where they drop there h’s. I will have to ask my husband, what part and what it means. My dear 13 year old is a Newfoundlander and she does not understand this.

Why put a sweater on a tree? Why not?
It makes people happy, and it looks funny, and kids love it.
