For a nostalgic bunch of JACK Nation points, name the building on the left. Enter your response (three words) into the Bonus Codes section at www.925jackfm.com

Check out the expanse that is the bank at the Toronto-Dominion Centre downtown at King & Bay.

To deposit your share of JACK Nation points, name the financial institution TD merged with 8 years ago. (make it one word)

Hitchcock would be impressed. Of course there were no shopping malls of this magnitude in Bodega Bay.

All aboard Leaf Nation! A huge win over the struggling Ottawa Senators last night.  The playoff future for the team this season however, remains uncertain. Despite that, perhaps you’re back on the bandwagon.

I took this shot on Bay Street outside of the Air Canada Centre. Do you happen to know who occupied that building before MLSE took over?  For your delivery of JACK Nation bonus, enter the correct response into the BONUS CODES section at www.925jackfm.com

Almost Cut My Hair

Actually, my regular guy wasn’t available so another barber did it. Badly. Thankfully, it’s almost grown out. A really bad cut. I’m so ashamed.

Say, what do you call those striped things anyway? For your cut of JACK Nation points, enter your response in the BONUS CODES section at www.925jackfm.com

So, the other day on the radio show Larissa was giving me a hard time for whipping out the Nikon at any given moment…including in the particular spot on the GO train.  And she thinks I’m odd.

For a caboose full of JACK Nation points, where on the train am I? Enter your response in the BONUS CODES section at www.925jackfm.com.

Yesterday shortly after 5am a six-alarm blaze destroyed an historic block of buildings in the fashionable Queen Street West neighborhood of downtown Toronto.

After the show today I snuck down for peek and snapped these sad, haunting pictures.

Built between 1858 & 1884, the charred remains are all that’s left.

The Jean Genie

This is the north-east corner of Queen & Church. Sure, it’s a pizza joint now but it used to be a jean store back in the 70’s & 80’s. In fact I think the tag line was ‘just pants’. They were also in almost every major mall in Canada.  Some may still exist somewhere, but they were purchased by an American company in 2000.

For a snug fit and pocketful of JACK Nation points, name that store. Enter your response in the BONUS CODES section at www.925jackfm.com. Don’t forget the apostrophe.

A clue before lunch.

UPDATE: Frugal

Yeah, Thrifty’s. I bought a horrid long sleeve green gingham shirt from that store in the late 70’s. Man, I hated that thing. Hated it.

Benefit

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

benefit.jpg

So, I had a little something to take of on Sunday afternoon. As mentioned on Friday’s blog, I’d be asked to come out and co-host a benefit along with Citytv’s Mark Dailey for our friend Mike Quinn down at the Balmy Beach Club in The Beach. Mark was a former patron of the pub Mike ran…Quinn’s on the Danforth. I worked for Mike as a DJ in the 80’s & early 90’s.

Back in December Mike suffered serious neck & spinal cord injuries while holidaying in Mexico. (see Friday’s blog)

Mike’s friend Russell organized the benefit in hopes of raising money toward the $50,000 bill incurred for both a day in a Mexican hospital and an air ambulance back to Toronto. Comedian Ron James and Joe Sexton & his Piece of the Rock band performed. So did John Prince.

Two words: mission accomplished.

It was a fantastic show of support from both former patrons and staff and family and friends. There were emotional speeches and lots of tears. Personally, to see people I hadn’t seen in 15, 20 years show up for this guy was unbelievably heart warming. I mean, here were guys I’d hung out with years ago…most now wearing eye glasses, a little less hair perhaps, a little thicker in the waist….but, still the same. And taking the time…and wanting to help.

The point is…everyone committed and came through for someone they care about. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Isn’t that what life is all about?

During a break from my duties on Sunday, I fired off a few shots on the camera phone. (Sure, I have some serious Nikon gear but the Blackberry’s always on my hip)  Here’s one through a window of the club looking out toward Lake Ontario. For a full compliment of JACK Nation points, what is the name associated with the wooden pathway that runs along the beach in this neighborhood? Enter your response in the BONUS CODES section at www.925jackfm.com

Thanks again to all…..
