Smokers Got Hammered First; Now It’s The Obese.

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

I was struck by a story out of Japan that we will be discussing in detail on tomorrow morning’s show. In Japan where they have a state run Health Care system which is similar to ours; the government is now hammering companies with heavy fine if their employees are over a certain weight. One company is facing $19,000,000.00 in penalties if their workers don’t slim down because their “chubbiness” is costing the Health Care system a fortune. I wonder when someone in our “nanny state” government is going to suggest we start doing this here? First it was the smokers who everyone picked on, now it’s the obese. Can you just imagine how many Human Rights Tribunals we would have to go through if they tried something like that here in Canada? We’ll soon see, because I believe it’s coming sooner than later.

SCREWED: IS THAT A VULGAR WORD, OR DO YOU LIKE A PLAIN SPEAKING PRIME MINISTER?

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Recently Prime Minister Harper said; “the National Energy Program was designed to screw the west and really damage the energy sector and this will do those things, but this is different; it will actually screw everybody across the country.” Mr. Harper was talking about the Liberal party’s new proposal for a national carbon tax.  He also said that the Liberal plan was “crazy” and his party members have nicknamed the Liberal “green shift” plan the “green shaft”.  Liberal House leader Ralph Goodale accused the Prime Minister of being “loud, goonish and bordering on vulgar” as well as not telling the truth about the impact of the Liberal plan on Canadians.  Liberal party leader Stephane Dion reacted to the Prime Minister’s comments by saying; “it was vulgar and I don’t think Canadians are impressed by that, they want a Prime Minister to act as a Prime Minister.”

Well do you agree with Mr. Dion and Mr. Goodale? I don’t. I think it’s great that we finally have a Prime Minister who speaks in plain English.  Some of you may feel that the Prime Minster should be above using that kind of “colourful language” and you have a right to that opinion. I believe it’s 2008, times have changed, and we are more accepting of things today than generations before us.  Like the word “issue” that has become the politically correct word to describe almost anything so you don’t have to say what you really mean, “screwed” plays the same type role.  “Screw” means ” to be taken advantage of”  in  what seems like a million different ways. For example “screw” mean “extort”, It also means to pin or fasten anything that looks like a screw or nail like device, and in fairness it also has a  vague sexual meaning as well which is what the prudes are zeroing in on.  As far as I’m concerned this is not 1940, and “screw” or “screwed” are not  four letter words.  Lighten up you “conservative thinking” Liberals, next thing you know you another four letter word might be considered vulgar. It’s spelled D-I-O-N. How do you like them apples?

PS: On a challenge from a listener I called my 95 year old grandmother to ask her if she thought the Prime Minister’s remarks were vulgar and she said “yes they were”.

A Couple of Road & Highway Comments

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I’m curious, you know when you drive on the expressway and you want to head to Cambridge or the 401. When you hit the “fly over” to the 401 the posted speed limit is 60K; have you ever seen anyone drive that slowly….ever?  What a joke, the other day I slowed down to 75K and there was a truck and a car in my back seat!!! They were honking at me!  A better question would be; have you ever slowed down to the posted speed limit on that “fly over”? I’ll bet, like me, you haven’t…..you’ll get killed!  While I’m at it I’d like to point to the most logical place in the world for a “roundabout”. I travel to my parents home in London through Tavistock always. I’ve gone through that five corner intersection a hundred times or more in their wonderful town and every time I get there, I’m still confused. I honestly never remember who has the right of way! If there was ever an intersection that cried out for a “roundabout” this is it!

Pay Me Now, Or Pay Me Later!

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

The wimpy NATO members who have avoided helping out in  combat operations in Afghanistan will end up paying for it sooner or later.  If we don’t hammer the Terrorists back into the Stone Age there will be hell to pay around the world because these radical Islamic warriors are gaining confidence and strength in the wake of recent events like the prison break-out on the weekend. Let’s get in there and clear these murderers out and be done with them now; instead of doing it down the road in our own backyards. If we aren’t going to act collectively, then let’s come home so that we don’t waste more time, money and human lives. The way we’re (Canada) doing this is wrong. If our partners aren’t in; then lets get out too. Remember the old commercial; “pay me now, or pay me later.” If we don’t put into it what we need now, we’ll fail. It’s as simple as that.

You Should Never Hit Women: That’s the Lesson To Teach

Friday, June 13th, 2008

The other day I heard an interview discussing this years 3rd annual Waterloo Arts Festival. The organizer said there would be a  Human Pinata for kids to beat with sticks. That’s what you do with a Pinata; you hit it repeatedly with sticks until all the candy falls out of it.  I question their decision to hire a FEMALE acrobat/performance artist to be the Human Pinata. Quite simply, the act of beating a woman in any way, shape,  or form is wrong! We keep saying that children will learn the behaviours that we show them; why would we show them that it’s okay to hit a woman “sometimes”? Even if they don’t actually hit her, they will be trying to;  and that’s the wrong lesson.  Just something to think about.

BILL C-484 IS OKAY WITH ME!

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

A NUMBER OF CONCERNED CITIZENS IN OUR COUNTRY, BOTH WOMEN AND MEN, ARE STRONGLY OPPOSED TO THIS BILL WHICH PASSED SECOND READING IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS BACK IN MARCH. THEY SAY IT’S A BACK DOOR WAY TO GIVE THE FETUS RIGHTS,  AND MAKE ABORTIONS ILLEGAL IN CANADA.
HOWEVER, THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA ARGUES THAT BILL C-484 AIMS ONLY TO PUNISH VIOLENT OFFENDERS WHO SPECIFICALLY SET OUT TO HARM UNBORN CHILDREN.THE BILL WOULD IMPOSE PENALTIES UP TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR ANYONE WHO DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY CAUSES THE DEATH OF A CHILD DURING BIRTH OR AT ANY STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT BEFORE BIRTH WHILE COMMITTING OR ATTEMPTING TO COMMIT AN OFFENCE AGAINST THE MOTHER OF A CHILD, WHO THE PERSON KNOWS, OR OUGHT TO KNOW, IS PREGNANT.THIS MEANS IF YOU PURPOSELY KILL A WOMAN YOU KNOW IS PREGNANT, YOU’RE GOING TO PAY FOR THAT MURDER AND THERE IS A PENALTY FOR EXTINGUISHING THE LIFE OF HER UNBORN
CHILD AS WELL.DISPITE ALL THE NAY SAYERS, I AGREE WITH THIS POTENTIAL NEW LAW BECAUSE IT MAKES SENSE.I’M NOT PRO-LIFE, OR PRO-CHOICE; I AM A GUY WHO BELIEVES THAT EVERYONE HAS TO DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO. EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT. ABORTION WOULD NOT BE MY PERSONAL CHOICE, BUT I THINK IT SHOULD REMAIN LEGAL, SO THAT THOSE WHO CHOOSE IT CAN ACCESS THE SERVICES TO OBTAIN AN ABORTION IF THAT’S WHAT THEY DECIDE. IT’S NOT MY PLACE, OR ANYONE’S PLACE TO TELL A WOMAN WHAT TO DO WITH HER BODY AND HER FUTURE; PERIOD.FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THE NEW BILL C-484 IS WORDED CORRECTLY SO THAT THOSE DIFFICULT CHOICES REGARDING ABORTION ARE NOT MESSED UP.UNLESS I’M READING THIS WRONG, THIS PROPOSED NEW LEGISLATION IS DESIGNED TO NAIL THESE LOW-LIFE, WOMAN HATING CRIMINALS TO THE CROSS; AND WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT?WE TALK ABOUT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT VIOLENT CRIME IN THIS COUNTRY ALL THE TIME. FINALLY A GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO COME DOWN HARD ON THE WORST KIND OF CRIMINAL IMAGINABLE AND SOME PEOPLE WANT TO FIGHT IT, I JUST DON’T GET IT. THIS IS A GOOD LAW AND IT’S ABOUT TIME, I MEAN FOR GOODNESS SAKES DID ANY OF THE NAY SAYERS EVER THINK THAT BY MAKING BILL C-484 THE LAW, IT MIGHT SAVE A FEW WOMEN’S LIVES THAT MIGHT BE KILLED IN THE FUTURE; BECAUSE IT’S OFTEN THE UNBORN CHILD THAT CAUSE THE CRAZY LOW-LIFE CRIMINAL TO COMMIT THE ACT IN THE FIRST PLACE, ACCORDING TO MY SOURCES.IF YOU KILL YOU SHOULD PAY, IF YOU KILL TWICE YOU SHOULD PAY TWICE. IT’S THAT SIMPLE.I SUPPORT BILL C-484.

Indiana Jones 4 Was Worth The Money: Just

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I saw the latest Indiana Jones movie this weekend. The big air conditioned theatre was a great relief from the sun and heat yesterday. The movie was good. There were some segments that were a little “cheezy” but all in all it was a great Indy action flick. I would recommend it to anyone.  The movie wasn’t cheap though, that’s the only downside. A ten dollar ticket, plus twelve dollars spent at the concession counter added up to the cost of a DVD which I could have waited for; but then I would have missed the big screen affect delivered by our local screen manufacturer, Christie.  Going to the movies is still affordable;  but just barely.

Young Criminals are laughing at us all!!

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Recently the Supreme Court of Canada made things easier for young offenders by ruling that drug sniffing dogs cannot be used to find drugs in school lockers; essentially giving teenagers a safe deposit box to hide things they don’t want their parents,  teachers,  or the police to see. Not long after that misguided judgement; the Supreme court of Canada ruled again on another issue. They decided that teens who are charged with serious adult crimes like rape, aggravated assault, manslaughter and murder should get a break. Now it’s up to the crown to prove to the courts that the young offenders are really “bad” so that they may be processed accordingly? I believe the YCJA is a necessary evil. However because it’s “fair” for everyone it also provides us with bad kids who laugh in our faces. They don’t care. Yesterday a sixteen year old armed robbery suspect was arrested in our town. He’s a bad bugger. I wonder how easily he’ll get off in the court system? In  addition to this,  last week in Winnipeg three youths aged 14, 15, and 17 were accused of ramming police vehicles and trying to mow down a detective, injuring two officers and causing a third to open fire! It’s obvious that some youth don’t care and they thumb their noses at us with  stern indignation. Aren’t these the kind of “boys” who should get a YCJA “break”? I don’t think so, but they will,  because the laws that protect all, also lets off the very guilty under our ”kiss the kid” criminal justice system.

Canadian Idol is Crap

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

American Idol is over,  and now we have to be subjected to the second string show called Canadian Idol. Why do we have to copy the Americans all the time? Isn’t this a sign of insecurity on our part? I’m tired of Canadian content rules which are nothing more than affirmative action scams. Canadian talent has always risen to the top on the world stage without this propping up stuff; why do we have to do it now?  The best of Hollywood and the Music industry are from Canada!  Paul Anka, The Guess Who, Steppenwolf, and many more Canadian acts have excelled on the world stage in the past because the cream always rises to the top; you don’t need an affirmative action plan to achieve that, and that’s what Canadian Idol is: a second fiddle, affirmative action Canadian Content mess.  It drives me nuts that we have to endure American Idol for what seems like half a year, then we are subjected to Canadian Idol for the other half. I’ll take a Law & Order re-run any day.

You Know You’re Getting Older When….

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

You know you’re getting older when you pick up your Sunday newspaper and look at the birthday section. I know time marches on, but heck, sometimes it just hits you in the face. I was stunned when I noticed the ages of some people I’ve admired through my life. Clint Eastwood is 78! Joe Namath is 65! Tom Berenger is 58! Even Brooke Shields is 43! Plus the guy who made us wear sunglasses at night, Corey Hart is 46.  I sure hope Clint Eastwood and Tom Berenger have a few movies left in them before they retire; if ever.
