I Agree With The GRT On This One

Friday, February 29th, 2008

The GRT has decided not to display a controversial poster which shows a naked badly beaten pregnant woman. The add campaign is designed to bring attention to violence against women and children. I agree whole heartedly with the campaign, but not this particular poster; it’s just TOO graphic. I wouldn’t want small children to look at this image anymore than I’d want them to watch the first twenty minutes of the movie “Saving Private Ryan”. Neither one is appropriate for kids; they would only create horrific nightmares.

Sudbury’s Mayor and Council See The Light!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The Mayor of Sudbury and the city council have returned 71 of 120  ELTON JOHN tickets because they listened to their constituents and realized that they made a great error in judgement by jumping the line to obtain tickets to the Elton John Show. Our Mayor and City council should show some class and follow suit immediately. It’s the right thing to do Mr. Zehr. Give back the tickets, run a lottery for charity, or do something positive or this will dog you the rest of your term; I promise!

Oscars don’t tell the whole story.

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I find that the Academy Awards never honour the right films or people. Ask me what I would suggest instead and I have to say; “I don’t know.” All I know is I watch a ton of movies every year, some are box office smashes, others are gems I find at Rogers Video, but for the most part they never get nominated.  I believe the “People’s Choice” awards better reflect what we the public think regarding movies. Remember the Academy Awards are the members voting for members, which is not a true indication of what the “best” is in film and acting.

Perception Is The Only Thing That Matters.

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

The Elton John “ticketgate” scandal won’t go away anytime soon. Voters in Kitchener will remember this issue at election time because I for one will remind them.  I am very disappointed in the Mayor of Kitchener and his Council for not seeing the reality of the situation. Most taxpayers and voters see the mayor and his council as The King and his Court. Everyone knows the Boss in town is Mayor Zehr. If he looks out his window and says I want a certain street plowed for example; it get’s plowed! If he say he wants tickets to Elton John; he gets them no questions asked. The Auditorium is owned by the city. He’s the Boss of the City, in other words he’s the King of the Castle, so they do what he tells them.  The perception amongst the common taxpayers in this town is that the King and his Court get special privileges that the rest of us don’t.  The Mayor and his Council hide things from us after all  that they deem “secret” or “not for our eyes” when they go in-camera.; giving us all a good reason not to trust them, now they pull this secret ticket deal out of the bag!? What other “perks” do they enjoy that we don’t know about? It’s no wonder that people don’t trust politicians when events like the Elton John show are tarnished with scandal.

Two Videos You May Enjoy

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

A few years ago I bought the box set “ROOTS”. Seeing as how it’s Black History Month, I decided to watch the series again on the weekend.  It appears dated at times mostly because of the technology available in 1977, but this saga is still a sobering reminder of what the Slave trade was all about. You’ll also be stunned by the villains who are played by men who were always “good guys” like Lorne Green, Chuck Connors, Vic Morrow and Lloyd Bridges. You’ll hate these guys by the end of the series.

I also watched Ron Howard’s “Standing in the Shadow of the Moon”. This is a must see for those of you who grew up during the space race! The footage and interviews with veterans of the moonshot missions are extraordinary. Rent it today at Rogers Video!

Whoops! I guess you can tell that I have a healthy love for Motown Music.  I added “Standing” to the title of the Movie.

The film is called “IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON”.  I guess I was thinking of “Standing in the Shadow of Love” when I wrote this blog.  No matter what,  it’s a must see for Space Junkies like me!

POISON IS EVERYWHERE

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

It seems like every time I turn around something else is “BAD FOR ME”. The water, pesticides, fluoride, aspartame, and secondhand smoke just to name a few.  This morning on my way to work I almost vomited when I was subjected to the exhaust fumes from the heavy snow removal equipment.  I’ll rather stand in a room with a bunch of smokers blowing smoke in my face any day! Smoking is the worse thing you can do to yourself, so I’m not advocating smoking;  however I’d like us to pay more attention to the other forms of secondhand smoke in our lives which  are  just as deadly and more nauseating than tobacco.  Gosh that Snow plough smelled like S__T!!

Trickle Down Effect Has Begun Because of Dr. Charles Smith

Monday, February 11th, 2008

The disgraced pathologist Dr. Charles Smith’s work is affecting people everywhere. He is responsible for putting too many innocent people in jail and ruining the lives of individuals and families in Canada as you are  becoming aware of.

I cannot believe this man is not going to jail for his crimes against Canadians! Having said that, it’s a good thing we don’t have Capital Punishment in this country.  Dr. Smith was actually called as an expert witness in an Ohio Capital Punishment Case. The defendant was convicted in part because of his testimony. Luckily the sentence was commuted to life in prison for the man charged. If the defendant had been executed Dr. Smith would have been a murderer in my books!

An Election over Afghanistan; What a Surprise! (sic)

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I told you so! The government of Canada is laying the groundwork for a possible election over Afghanistan today after it tabled a confidence motion to extend Canada’s combat role until 2011.

The Bloc and the NDP have said they’ll vote against any motion to extend our mission, so it comes down to the Liberals who will decide whether we have an election on the issue.  Liberal leader Stephane Dion says he’ll whip the vote, which means the entire party will vote against the Conservative governments plan. Therefore the Harper government will be defeated on the subject and we will go to the polls soon whether we like it or not.  It is my opinion that Mr. Harper may be moving to the other side of the house, because Canadians are so divided on the issue of Afghanistan. If they say “NO” to Stephane Dion as Prime Minister, Mr. Harper may form another minority government, but if I was Stephen Harper I don’t think I’d be sleeping very well right now.

Why Is Canada Sleeping With Losers?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

Have you heard the expression “all for one and one for all”? It’s a line from the Three Musketeers. It means the same thing as Article #5 of the NATO agreement, which reads an attack against one member is an attack against all.

Why on earth are we Canadians still working with “losers” in NATO like Germany, France, Italy and Turkey who refuse to send their troops to the southern front-lines of Afghanistan?  They don’t want to get their hands dirty on the ground as retired Maj. Gen. Lewis Mackenzie told me; that’s why! They had no trouble dropping bombs on people in Bosnia from ten thousand feet up, but going toe to toe with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda is below them somehow. As far as I’m concerned they’re all cowards.  In addition let me say that they should all be hanging their heads in shame,  for it was Canada that liberated and freed the people of France, Germany, Italy, Turkey and all of Europe for that matter during the Second World War. Quite frankly they owe us their support. It’s amazing how short people’s memories can be when they choose to forget things isn’t it?  Canadians and other NATO members held back the Soviet Union for decades to protect these very European countries from being over run by Communism, and this is the thanks we get? Shame, shame, shame on them! “All for one and one for all” isn’t in fashion anymore I guess.

Al-Qaeda: How Low Will They Go?

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Two woman with Downe’s Syndrome were unwittingly used to carry remotely detonated bombs to kill themselves and  innocent people mingling in two different Bagdad marketplaces. The death toll was ninety-one!

Using mentally challenged people to do your dirty work is as low as you can go if you ask me. It’s akin to using children. They say all is fair in Love, War, and Politics but I think we have just seen a whole new era of barbarism and cruelty rear it’s ugly Al-Qaeda head this time don’t you?
