The inaugural blog
Hello and welcome to the inaugural 660News blog! I’ll be writing about topics such as the news of the day, about how our newsroom works and about what a broadcast journalist on a morning show runs into any given day!
660News is the only local Calgary radio station that broadcasts live 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and we’re also part of Canada’s largest private radio news network with stations from Halifax to Vancouver. We pride ourselves on getting you the news that you care about. You’ll also be tapped into what’s hot in our culture, in the world of entertainment, sports and business. We are affiliated with CNN, the BBC, ABC News, Bloomberg News, CTV Calgary, City TV Calgary, Broadcast News, Canadian Press, Associated Press, along with many other news organizations. As a result, we bring you breaking news on any front as soon as it happens.
I’m part of a crew here at 660News ranging from Calgary veterans to talented broadcasters from right across the country. We pride ourselves on delivering local news and accurate traffic reports every ten minutes in a city that no longer has just a morning and afternoon rush hour! Our News Director is so proud of the accuracy of the forecasts engineered by our meteorologist David Spence that she gives away $660.00 every time he misses our guaranteed high. (You can sign up to win here on our website).
I moved to Calgary about a year-and-a-half ago and am thoroughly enjoying the beauty of Cowtown. I was born and raised in the so-called “centre of the universe” (a phrase I had never heard till coming out west) and graduated from Radio Broadcasting at Humber College in Toronto. My first job in radio was at 680News, our all-news station in Toronto. I then made my way to Medicine Hat before landing here at 660News as a reporter. I’m out there on the street every day and have packed my reporter kit bag to handle anything Calgary’s weather throws at me! I’m looking forward to meeting many of you as I make my way around this city.
I’m always up for chatting with our listeners, so if you want to hear about anything specific, have any suggestions or questions feel free to e-mail me at cormac.macsweeney@rci.rogers.com
Talk to you next blog.

As a newcomer to Calgary, please I beg you to learn how to say Calgary. I mute the button everytime you come on, I actually heard you say it correct once, but you draw out the Cal as if its cowl.
It is not pronounced Cowl Gree its Calgree or Cal ger ee and god for bid not Cal Gary as per Saskatchewan transplants as well as other eastern areas of the country.
