Is Paul McCartney welcome in the Maritimes?

Last year’s bleeding heart anti-sealing festival on the east coast ice shelf with Sir Paul and former wife Heather Mills, whose marital time with Paul ended up costing the former Beatle $500 per hour (I lustfully suggest a group rate consultation with former Governor Elliot Spitzer), received a chorus of raspberries from many who wanted ol’Paul to simply compensate the sealers for not killing, the way Paul bought off his wife for not clubbing him after he said love me do.

Lennon’s I am the Walrus back-up singer Paul certainly looked like “The Egg man” after that one (”cuckoo catchoo”).

But that was yesterday.

The long and winding road for the self-made Beatle billionaire looks like it might end up in Halifax this Canada Day. The concert-starved burghers here, still smarting after the counter-snub Celine gave to those who rolled their eyes at the notion of the schmaltz-meistress’ warbles, will be somewhat sated by having a major-league entertainer come to the Promised Land of cell-phone bans, no poopy harbor water, plastic-bag free stores, cigarette bans, and Sunday shoppers.

Hell, if we get any more virtuous, we might even cozy up to a seal pup!

Will we ever forgive Paul for going on Larry King and not knowing what Province he was in? Is divorcing harpy Heather Mills enough to atone? During his visit here, Paul looked like a guy who was being dragged to a chick flick starring Hugh Grant.

Maybe being married to Heather was punishment enough.

And where was that selfish bastard anyway, that knight-in-shining-armor activist Paul Watson to rescue Sir Paul when he needed to be saved? After all, McCartney has big, watery eyes too.

Is playing Halifax part of Paul’s community service?

Can the Coast Guard still give Heather a tow?

So he wrote some songs. This dude is just a musician at his core. A well-meaning, ignorant musician who’s PR involves activism just like Bonno. That’s who people will let him play music but dislike his other less ingenuis talents. Also the guy is old. Old people can be interesting like maybe Dr. Sue or Gerry Springer but Paul is so boring and so half-drunk sounding most of the time. The dubbed him “Sir” but check out that list of “Sir”s they got out there. Soon George Clooney will be “Sir”. I’m still shaking my head over Elton John. The dude just sings and plays piano for barnicle sake. This “cult” of fame in our society is damageing our abiliity to wage real efforts against things like “inhumane sealing” and Environmental activists who value their contribution more than their results.

Let it be oh let it be. Can”t wait till he gets here. If Halifax give’s Paul the bum’s rush then Halifax is the loser and should never be in the running for another concert

    Hi Andrew
I was really interested in your program this week re Paul McCartney. You asked the question whether or not he would be welcome in Halifax. Yes, he made some unwelcome comments about the seal hunt, but that is his opinion and people shouldn’t really judge him because of that. I think it will be interesting to see whether or not HE brings up the subject. Personally, I am against the seal hunt and I would like to be a voice for any animal that is treated in a cruel way, but I don’t hold his opinions against him. Just thank god he has one. I won’t be attending his concert but I hope it is a huge success.
I was also really interested in the show with Paul Watson. I was so disappointed to miss it but I had to go to work. In this case I agree with his stand on the environment and animals, but I really lost a lot of respect for him re his cold comments on the sealers that lost their lives. Jerk!!
I really enjoy your show and sad that work is keeping me from listening. Keep up the good work

    Regards

I think if Paul was true to his convictions he wouldn’t be coming here, but I guess if he’s willing to overlook the fact that we kill seals every year, we can overlook the fact that he has incredibly poor taste.

    Off in a different direction:
I know this is off topic but I am extremely ticked off at the HR Police

It seems HR Police has discovered a great new trap for ticketing “speeders”. Almost every other Sunday morning, the police set up on the on ramp coming out of Mic Mac Mall targeting cars heading outbound on the Circumferential Highway.

The reasons I have such a problem with this are as follows:

Why do they set up on Sunday morning? Is it because this is typically a dangerous time of the day and week and they are trying to make the road way safer? OR, is it because there is very little traffic on the highway at that time and people may take the liberty of maybe going a little faster to their destination. The speed limit on the Circ is a ridiculous 80! Imagine going 100 or 110 on this section of roadway on a Sunday morning, what carnage!!
Why the Circumferential Highway? Of all the dangerous roads in HRM that combine speeders and pedestrians that have caused deaths and injuries in the past year or two why the Circ? Last time I checked, there weren’t any pedestrians on the Circ. I have lived in Dartmouth for the past seven years and don’t recall anybody ever getting hurt on the Circ. because of speed. Wouldn’t the public be better served if they set up on say Portland St, or Dunbrack St, or any other dangerous street.

This is nothing more that a quota filling tactic by the Police targeting unsuspecting travelers driving a safe speed on a safe highway that has an unreasonably low speed limit. The public is not being served by this at a time when Halifax (HRM) has developed a bad reputation for crime and pedestrian accidents!!

I am disgusted by the HR Police and think they should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

I kind of wonder about the promoters in Halifax. They have brought, tried to, or will bring recording artists like: Cher, Celine Dion, Elton John, Dolly Parton — very lah-dee-dah, fluffy entertainers. Would the promoters bring Judy Garland to Halifax if they could bring her back from the dead via contracting-out to a private fairy with a magical wand? Probably. Is there something the promoters should be telling us about themselves? Is there something people should know about Haligonians? I mean, really, think about it. It is all very suspect. ;-)

Chrysler Canada!!!! I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler with 45,000 km and when you hit a bump it shakes uncontrollably you have to pull over. It almost caused my family to be two head on collisions. The Jeep has spent over a month at the Moncton Chrysler Superstore in Moncton New Brunswick. They say there is nothing wrong that this is how this vehicle drives. Chrysler Canada says they checked it and its fine. We paid over $38,000.00 for the vehicle and my wife and I don’t no what to do the vehicle it is dangerous. I wanted Chrysler to take a drive with me so I could show them but they are to busy. I guess oil changes are more important then my families lives. I quote I Matthew Roy will not rest until this vehicle is fixed and I want to tell all the public to stay away from Chrysler Canada because this could happen to them.

  7. Todd Harvey Says:

I don’t see what all the fuss is about.
When I saw Paul on Larry King, he was mainly saying “lets talk about this, is there another way, etc.”. It was his ignorant, uninformed wife that had all the mouth and was acting like Paul Watson (imo, activists can get too passionate about their cause, and tend to loose sight of common sense elements and the surrounding factors involved in a complicated issue, but I digress).
Paul is a legend, and we have very few left. Personally, I believe we have a window of 2-4 years where great bands with long careers (and lets face it, these careers only come from talent) are gone, and we’re left with the “american idol” culture of one-hit wonders.
I personally hope he comes, and doesn’t think we are a province that will not let someone have a view and/or protest for what they believe in. Now, that being said, it’s all in the way you protest, I wouldn’t support his idiot wife, who stomps/screams/bullies her views, but I would support anyone who protests in the spirit of doing things differently, but not abolishing something that has validity.
That’s the type of protest I believe in.

    He isnt coming
and for the reasons you are stating
he is protesting and not doing any Canadian shows

    I think it’s a shame.
I am 100% against the seal hunt
    Why punish all Canadians

  9. Dea G. Says:

Several points here, in response to the varied comments above:

    1. Does Paul McCartney enjoy fish for dinner?
Does he, or the above commenters know that if seals are not culled regularly, that the parasitical worms that infest their feces becomes so abundant in the waters that supply the food of fish (yes, fish eat feces!) that no one would be able to eat this staple without being totally grossed out? And, seals reproduce like rabbits, as California recently discovered.
Love good seafood? Then, buy a seal pelt! Too, they are better for your conscious human children’s warmth, safety, & comfort than anything manufactured by man. (Of course, I am assuming they are more emotionally valuable to you than are our dumb animals in nature.)

    2. The HR Police are long known to be a good ol’ boys club, run at the top by a well-placed, Illuminati-copying, envious, egotistical family or two. Though there are many members with integrity to something redeemable & honest, overall the force is overwhelmingly irreparable, as are all other government-run police everywhere on surface of the known 21st century Earth. There is little incentive (but infinite punishment) to fight to produce new value as long as that is the case, (as those integrity possessing, super-frustrated members, & us force-fearing sheeple know.) The only salvation for us that care to live without despotic power further totally overcoming us all into the generations ahead, is to introduce CIVILIZATION, by encouraging, creating & supporting free-enterprise competition into this realm, & in all other realms. The ever-present threat of being out-competed is always the only dynamic that keeps human nature honest, even against the guns-&-fists that comprise the single underlying pillar that is by axiomatic definition, “government.” Long live the Guardian Angels, for a small start, who don’t expend their complete shifts sitting in $120,000 privacy-invading, electronics-ridden mobile comfort palaces until they become apple or pear-round for their union to show off to the rest of us. Superior competition is the only sufficiently embarrassing & shaming dynamic that “below 100 IQ” Neanderthal hominids understand, (no matter the line of business, medicine, education, & government itself included.)

    3. “Jeep”, did someone say “Jeep?” I had one of those expensive hoares living out of my always-empty pockets once-upon a time. Unless it was made for the Allies in he ‘40’s, I have nothing but pity for any of the impoverished suckers trapped into the dangerous possession of one of these ego-driven pigs. I got rid of mine when the body started to threaten to literally fall off the frame due to rust & repetitive bolt shearing. After he retired from Chrysler, Lee Iococa himself went public about how bad & uncompetitive these Lada-imitating swine are. Google that.
Dear Matthew R., Sorry to hear about your ownership of an impossibly flawed piece of criminally-inferior technology. More homework next time, eh? Meantime, be glad for the revenge of more-honest free-enterprise competition; & be very glad that the gov’t aren’t in charge of shoes nor vehicular mfg., like they once were in Moscow. And for now, we can only wish for & work toward superior choices to our present communist health care, child-ruining Keynes-sicko education, local & national police-gulag forces, public-thieving overcapitalized transits, inFLATulatory currency-counterfeit stinkers, & Illuminati-supporting regulatory systemization under centuries-old ego/lawyer/judge conspiring (in-)justice.

    4. The list of important topics is endless, though I will not be regularly contributing here. I will however, listen & check in periodically to watch our progress.

Andrew, Tom Y., & co: We the sheeple, are counting on types like you to always produce better, superior, & out-competing net-values; by investigating (at least a little more), reporting that which more deeply underlies mere-AP-fed facts (at least a little more), & thereby educating us lowest common denominator (LCD) masses with objectively identifiable, accurate, wide-scope accountable logic (at least a little more). Otherwise, you, nor we, never grow beyond, or become anything special or new, … otherwise remain nothing more than a common existentialist shills for our global socialistic, mainstream nihilistic feeding frenzy, as are 99.5% of your mainstream counterparts.
There is an epochal revolutionary battle on for our minds, Andrew, & your grandchildren lose alongside ours as long as you and your counterparts don’t separate away from lazily feeding on this boring, historical century-old mainstream, low-effort, value-destroying global frenzy. Spectacularization & discordian frenzy-feeding is no longer an innocuous activity; it is a deadly, ignorance-enhancing activity that threatens more & more daily. There are golden solutions out there, but they aren’t coming from you all, … yet. But I don’t think that is too much to imagine or expect, having been employed & self-employed in a number of outcompeting businesses for several decades now.
Will you & Rogers do more, become more, … & become immensely successful for fun & profit by informing, serving & outcompeting, or are you to remain a mere driver of our status-quo, existentialist, long-dead, impotent Plato-world as you currently are? Perhaps it will be another outfit to do what is needed …? I am so patiently awaiting as I continue to grow due to the Internet. Where are the deep-fact seeking mainstream media that is more knowledgeable than its LCD audience?
For now, back to prisonplanet (dot) com, … among others, … for starters.
