Here is what you need to know. When asked about Bill Casey the other day, Harper said, "Mr. Casey made demands that he knew were incompatible with our budget, that he knew this government would not and HAS NOT agreed to." (Caps added by me.)

So, if all Casey asked for was the Atlantic Accord to be respected, what did the government of Nova Scotia agree to. They didn't get the Atlantic Accord, as it WAS written. Also, the thought that we are going to get MORE money somehow should piss off the other provinces, a la the "no side deals" that Harper and Flaherty espoused about signing deals with their less important partners in confederation.

So, what did the Premier agree to? Is the Crown share, that yawn inducing, piece of finance deapartment detail, the deal maker here....better get it in writing boys, or we're headin' on down the river without the proverbial paddle.

It does sound good Andrew but as the saying goes the devil is in the details and to be honest we do not have any, just Harper, Mackay and Rodney's word. It will not be good or bad until it comes to fruition and we actually see it, this may be unwanted skepticism but when you consider what has happened until now, it is justified. Trust when it comes to these guys has been in short supply, I'm going to play the "believe it when I see it stance".

the problem with accepting the newest deal, for me, has to be the combining of the accord with equalization. by doing so are we not subject to the agreement being changed ever time equalization is recalculated?
also does this deal give the same oppertunity to become a have province,
like say alberta? I guess i'll find out in ten days or so!!

     P.S. wagnerian incandescence , whew
crown shares discription as disputatious is perfect , future is bleak?

It looks as though N.S. has done well here. It seems like a good deal and I congratulate everyone in involved in getting it done. However, if Harper wants to gain support here he shouldn't have said anything about Bill Casey. Any political support he may have gained through this deal may have been lost through his sharp and nasty tone when speaking of Bill Casey. Bill Casey is a very well respected man and Nova Scotians look to him as a hero. Not a wise political move on Harpers part. I just don't understand the man sometimes.

I'm no expert on this issue, but I know that NS will be getting slightly more money than they would have gotten using the original Atlantic Accord in the long run. I also know that it's better to be back in the game with the Federal Gov't, than to be on the outside looking in. Give Danny Williams the headlines, we'll take the cash. Good job by the Premier and Minister Mackay.
