Senior soldiers, more often than not, want war – and Hillier wants Afghanistan on his “to-do” list.

Is it the premise of your argument that 9/11 never happened, that Osama Bin Laden does not exist, that the UN never approved the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, that the Taliban (or whatever you want to call the previously existing government) are a bunch of nice chaps that would never blow up innocent people in markets to regain power?

Canada is in Afghanistan to help support and stabilize the elected government of Afghanistan. We help defend it against the Taliban (previous government) that want to re-assume control of the country and had never heard of women's or human rights until the war started. They gave aid and succor to Osama Bin Laden who launched the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. that killed thousands of Americans and many Canadians as well. Hillier may or may not want war (I don't think he does) but that does not matter because Parliament decides when the nation goes to war.
What Hillier wanted is for the government to take the military seriously and fund it properly.

What I find amusing is that Stephen Harper, or any politician for that matter, would think for any moment of time that "winning" a war would do anything for his political career. This is Canada, not America. If I hear some politician bragging about our military accomplishments as if it's something to be prideful of, he's the first one I won't be voting for.

Yes, sometimes things need to be done and it requires the military. I think they are incredibly brave people, and should be given all the tools and resources they need, and given the respect they rightly deserve. But NEVER should we be prideful of military actions that result in the deaths of people. Ever!

The military should be the last resort, and I don't believe we used any other options in regards to Afghanistan, we just rushed in like gang busters. And what about Saudi Arabia? Shouldn't someone be calling them on the things they do and give support to? Instead we have our people in a country they shouldn't be in, dieing for things that are the result of western imperialism and meddling. It was a mistake to go in the first place.

Bring our people home!
