Andrew;

Big fan, regardless of how misguided you are on this subject. Isn't it about time we (the Cdn public) became educated and disconnected this conflict from the one in Iraq?

Four points:

1. While you/and conspiracy theorists may argue that we are in Afghanistan to appease the US puppet masters, it was the Chrétien/Martin governments that placed us in there, not the current regime.

2. On loosing the battle. How's about we get current here? Despite the intentions of most major Newscasts to skew things to the negative, the truth is that we are winning: and were winning hands down. I know this for a fact because I'm an ex-member of the unit just rotating back to Canada. I hear it first hand every single day. The Taliban are running scared like the dogs they are and the only actions they can provide at this point is to round up poor young misguided men and pay them to take pot shots or blow themselves up. Cowards!

3. Tanks! Tanks are required in order to get through mud walls, blow down compound walls, plough mines and run through Grape and Cannabis fields. It's either this, or we get our guys to jump these walls (break their kneecaps, like a buddy of mine did, or get shot because you make a nice big silhouette when you do this). Tanks are also excellent direct fire weapons and they scare the s@#$% out of the Taliban. In one recent battle, two Taliban attacking with a dirt bike got turned into "pink mist." Point made.

4. Helecopters: Desperatly need them. It's too bad the Liberals sold our Chinooks to the Dutch (who incidentally used them to ferry our guys around in Ethiopia/Eretrea in 2001). Those Griffins (Bell 412) we've got are great looking but are completely useless for anything but airshows. At least with the old Huey, we could rapel with 8 guys to a chopper. Now we have a hard time sending 4 guys out.

As we like to say in the 2nd Battalion. "Get behind our troops or stand in front of them” Your choice.

I know we have to keep this situation current, I know out of respect for those that have lost and those that will lose their loved ones that we have to keep this current. With that being said I’m at the point where I am numb to the subject, I hear about this everyday and I know I will hear about this for many more days to come.

I fully and truly believe we will be there until George Bush is out of office in 08', and from there the new US President will decide how much longer we stay. Anyone who believes that we don't do as the US tells us to, I think is very naive.

Also on that note no point at being angry at the puppet that is the US President George Bush, instead I would be angry at the Nation that put him in office not once but Twice! A Nation that will keep our young Men and Women in Afghanistan for as long as they so choose.

Guess that’s just my opinion.
