Addicted to the Summer Games?

HBC Uniforms

There is something about the Beijing coverage that is addictive.  I am finding myself watching sports I didn’t even know existed, usually at ungodly hours of the morning.  Steeplechase?  You bet.  Table Tennis, i.e. Ping Pong?  Absolutely.  Handball?  Why the heck not?

I’m not as desperate as one guy, though.  Ananova.com is reporting that Cornel Hobai jumped off the balcony of his second-storey apartment when his wife, tired of hours of sports from Beijing, turned off the television set.  Luckily, Mr. Hobai, 42, only sprained his ankle, even though he fell more than 20 feet.

Are you addicted to the Summer Games?  Which events have you been watching?  Share your experience by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link below.  Today’s Jack Nation bonus code is BEIJING.  It won’t score you a medal, but it will land you some points until August 16th.

P.S. Speaking of addictive, I want to thank Chipotle Mexican Grill at Yonge and Dundas Square for an awesome beef burrito!  Check out their menu at www.chipotle.com.

Bus Woes in Durham

Durham Bus

Have you heard about this husband and wife in Ajax who are trying to change the bus route because it’s too noisy for them?  Their neighbours rely on the bus to get to work and school, but this couple doesn’t appreciate the smell or the noise.  When it comes to the proposed route change, Sandra and Wayne Cassidy are sure that local politicians will side with them.  Sandra told The Toronto Star, “Not to sound like I’m bragging or anything but we have more (influence) than the average person.” To read the full story, click HERE.

I can believe that someone is so self-absorbed, but what I find incredulous is that she would actually tell a reporter that she is more important than someone else.  Doesn’t she realize that by making such a statement, the politicians will now probably have to side against her and her husband so there is no hint of favouritism?

What do you think of this situation?  Have you ever had problems with a neighbour or a service in your area?  What did you do about it?  Share your thoughts and experience by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link below.  Today’s Jack Nation bonus code is DURHAMBUS.  It’s valid until August 15th.

Marvelous Maui!

Maui

Maui Sunset

I just returned from a wonderful Hawaiian vacation.  I was attending a friend’s wedding in Maui (Wailea).  Hot sun, warm ocean waves, fresh pineapple and coconut - what’s not to like?  Some of our group activities included a day at the spa, hula lessons and a sunset cruise.  I also spent an afternoon in Lahaina, a sea port where one banyan tree covers an entire park.

Because I was delayed flying out, I only had 5 days in Maui, but I would return in a heartbeat.  I would also like to visit some of the other Hawaiian islands.  If I were an American, I would consider living there.  Sure, it’s expensive, but I would just eat at Taco Bell and live on the beach. :)

What was your favourite trip?  What was your most expensive?  Share some highlights by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link below.  Today’s Jack Nation bonus code is MAUI.  It’s good until August 14th.
