Must Do’s Before Summer is Over

Drive-inTheatre

As much as I love the CNE (the Polar Express, the Wave Swinger, the popcorn…), there’s always a tinge of sadness associated with the Canadian National Exhibition because you just know the demise of summer is imminent (unless you make your living selling Christmas trees , then you can’t wait until winter to make some cash, but I digress…).

Whether it’s Labour Day or the first day of school or the equinox that represents the first day of autumn to you, the countdown is on, so it’s time to take advantage of summer if you haven’t already done so.  In honour of those lazy, hazy, crazy days, here are my Top 3 Summer Activities:

  1. Drive-in Movie Theatre (Still 26 locations in Ontario)
  2. Eating Outside (Picnic, BBQ, Breakfast on the Balcony)
  3. Swimming Outdoors (Pool, Lake or Ocean - All good!)

Do you agree?  What are your Top 3 Summer Activities?  Share your list by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link at the bottom.  Today’s Jack Nation bonus code is DRIVE-IN.  It’s valid until August 20th.

I agree with your list, Carly, and here are some more:
    1. Watching the Jays! Win or lose, I grew up with this team and love ‘em to death! I feel better if they win though.
    2. Girl watching. Yeah, I can do this in the winter, but in the summer, you can see pretty girls in tank tops, shorts, mini-skirts, all with nice tans from the summer sun.
    3. Outdoor activities. I love riding my bicycle, playing tennis, walking the dog, and I can now say that I’m into playing golf. I finally played an entire round of golf when I was in Florida, so now I’m on the lookout for some people to play golf with around here. Preferably of the pretty female variety. ;-)

Carly’s Note: Great list, Louie! Hope you find a golf partner and you can “wow” her with her swing.

I love the fact that you can walk outside in your bare feet
That when i take my day care kids outside i dont have to put jackets on them just sandals and suntan lotion
I like you love swimming in our above ground pool. So refreshing. Although have not done a lot of that this summer.
PS Dont think ive been to a drive in in forever.
Will have to do that soon.

Carly’s Note: Walking barefoot in warm sand - one of life’s simplest pleasures!

Barbecues (being an apartment dweller, I appreciate them all the more), swimming, softball, volleyball (I play all year - indoor/outdoor), walking, cycling, being outside as much as possible, unless I feel like being a lazy so-and-so, like I was yesterday until I had to go play ball.

Carly’s Note: Beach volleyball is pretty cool, although I don’t think I could pull off the outfits the women are wearing in Beijing. Greenpeace might confuse me with a beached whale!

    my top three
    1 - for sure outdoor b-b-q
2- by the pool with a cooler full of cold beer
3 - watching the jays play anywhere

Carly’s Note: Good point. They don’t call them the Boys of Summer for nothin’.

    Dear Carly,
I ADORE drive-in’s and still drive from Brantford to the 5 DRIVE IN in Oakville and also go to the one in London called “The Mustang”. I hate it when they close and can’t wait for them to open every year. It’s the ONLY way to see a movie as far as I’m concerned!!
BBQ’s are also going to be missed this year as we bought a kick ass BBQ this year and due to our wet weather, haven’t used it as much as we would have liked to!!
Even though our swimming pool is a small one for kids, it’s just to sit in and get cool from Ontario’s humidity, and that also was not used very much this year!!
    Those are my top 3.
    April

Carly’s Note: I’m in complete agreement about the pool - even a kiddie pool a la Mr. Turtle is better than nothing on a hot summer day. :)

Summer is more fun in the evenings. Perhaps because there is more evening to have compared to those December days of get up it is dark, come home it is dark.
    1 - Campfires
    2 - Sunsets over a lake
3 - Fireworks (Gatineau Festival just ended, I think my heart finally restarted)
Does Swimming Outdoors include skinny dipping say on a night with a new moon? (wait that was a full moon).
    Wombat
    m^*^m

Carly’s Note: You gotta love the long days, although I have started to notice the sun setting earlier these days.

    Hi Carly
Its a sad time of year with the end of summer.
My fav three summer fun things:
Sitting on a patio and sipping a cold pint.
Walking the beach and taking in all the sights.
Having a little outside fire at night with friends.
I like the fall but I don’t like what follows..cold winter nights.
Hope you had a great vacation this summer.
    Gary

Carly’s Note: Patios and pints - you can’t beat it!

YOU? Greenpeace? Get outta here! Hardly! We’ve met, remember? Trust me, if I tried to pull off one of those teeny weeny bikinis, the courts would clear faster than Godzilla stomping on Tokyo!

Carly’s Note: We should team up. Maybe we’d win all our matches by default!

  9. Lee Ann Says:

Look out 2012, here comes the dream team! Lol….I’m in!

Carly’s Note: Great! I’m looking forward to the burgers, beer and doughnuts training regimen. :)

  10. Dave Says:

    Hi Carly,
Anything outdoors is great but BBQ’s and swimming in friends pools are great as are being invited to a cottage. Wearing shorts…i hate wearing long pants and wish i lived in a warmer climate so i could wear shorts all year-i used to have a friend from New Zealand in my building and he’d wear shorts and sandals all winter!
Also i find socialize more overall in the summer too.
I hope i never too old to watch pretty women walking by….
The only nice thing about the end of summer is the beginning of football season.
    Have a great day Carly.

Carly’s Note: Thanks, Dave! I was going to say Christmas with family and friends is the silver lining to my end-of-summer cloud, but football and Christmas still take place in warmer climates, so it’s not like we’d have to forgo them if we lived somewhere hot. Oh well, bearing the winter months is one of the traits that defines us as Canadians - right?
