Brad & Ange & A Turkey Baster?

Brad & Ange

According to Us magazine, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt conceived their twins via in vitro fertilization.  A source indicated that the couple chose this method  so Angelina “wouldn’t have to deal with the stress of trying to get pregnant.  She could just knock it out.”

First of all, trying to get pregnant the old-fashioned way with Brad Pitt doesn’t seem that stressful.  I’d be willing to try all day for as long as it takes, but maybe that’s just me. :)  On a more serious note, I do realize that in vitro can be a godsend to a childless couple who have tried for years to conceive and have had no luck.  But this situation, if the reports are true, appears to be one of pure convenience.  Did I miss something?  When did having a child become the equivalent of customizing a combo at Wendy’s?  I want it fast and now!

Am I wrong about this?  Is this an ethical issue or is it simply about money, i.e. if you’ve got the cash, you should be able to buy almost anything, including a conception and birth that fits your schedule?  Have your say by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link below.  Today’s Jack Nation bonus code is INVITRO.  It won’t lead to a baby, but it will allow you to “score” until July 27th.  Woo hoo!

P.S. I will be on vacation over the next couple of weeks.  Check back with me after August 11th!

Have a great vacation! Angelina’s beautiful but she’s way out there. Show people are not like us! Did she use a dollar store turkey baster?

Carly’s Note: Thanks, Ron! I’m sure her baster was from Tiffany’s. :)

This seems going a bit far for convenience’s sake to me too. What’s the matter with them - don’t they realize they’re supposed to have fun and let nature take it’s course? Haven’t they watched Men With Brooms??? LOL
    Have a great vacation Carly!

Carly’s Note: Thanks, Barb! I agree. Why take the fun out of life? I’m surprised they didn’t have a surrogate mother, too, so Angelina could keep making movies during those nine months. Maybe that’s the next step - adoption, in vitro and then surrogacy.

It seems like twins are the new black in H’wood. Everyone is popping them out now, what’s-her-face from Desparate Housewives, J’Lo, J’Ro, etc…
What used to be an anomoly is now just an assembly line.

Carly’s Note: Yeah, having one at a time is no longer “miraculous” enough. Soon we’ll be wanting litters of babies!

Don’t get me started on Angelina Jolie. Did you hear what Jimmy Kimmel said at a publists dinner about that union. Something about one minute she’s making out with her brother and wearing a vial of Billy Bob Thorton’s blood around her neck and the next minute she’s stealing Jennifer Aniston’s man. I guess he was the convenient choice at that time too.
They have been portrayed as good people because of their adoptions so they can morally do whatever they want now?
She also said that she was taking a year off for the family and now I’m hearing she is preparing for a new movie role. Give me a break. I think they are using these children as status symbols.

Carly’s Note: There does seem to be a lot of that in Hollywood these days. I remember a time when you rarely heard about the children of celebrities, unless they were involved in show business as well. Now just having a famous parent grants you royalty status.

    Hi Carly,
Have a great vacation! Are you going out of town? Talk to you soon!
Yes i know some couples who have gone the invitro route after years of trying but Angelina is only 32 or 33 so yeah i think she’s doing it so she can get back to making movies sooner. Hope I’m wrong though cause i like her.

Carly’s Note: Are you attracted to her because she scares you a little? :)

Regarding money, for some things i feel if you work hard for something and earn it then that’s fine. Nobody should be fast tracked for life and death things just because they have a lot of money though.

Carly’s Note: That’s why I believe in universal education and universal health care.

Talk to you after August 11th.

    Carly’s Note: You bet!

Money talks. Some people may feel what they have done is unethical but they didn’t break any laws. There are so many children born unloved and/or unwanted. If the children are going to be loved, the ends justify the means.

Carly’s Note: Interesting opinion. I’m not sure I share it exactly, but you do make a good point about loving all children. Thanks for expressing your thoughts, Donald.

    BTW
    Enjoy your time away!!!

    Carly’s Note: Thanks!!!

  8. Turkey Baster Says:

Don’t knock it till you try it. ;)

    Carly’s Note: Touche!

  9. Susanne Says:

Why do we not just leave each other alone and wish each other well?
That should include the “famous” people.

Carly’s Note: Thanks for sharing your view. I couldn’t care less what designers Brad and Angelina wear or where they vacation, but I do think it’s important to discuss moral and ethical issues. It’s how society progresses.

    Hi Carly,
Further to your comments on my e-mail above yes i guess Angelina does intimidate me a bit but then again she’s hot!
Hope you’re having a great vacation:)

Carly’s Note: Thanks, Dave. Off to Hawaii tomorrow - can’t wait!

    Hey Carly,
My twins are almost 2 now and I’ve taken notice of all who have had them lately: Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, Marcia Cross, Holly Robinson, Patrick Dempsey’s wife, and now Angelina.
My sister is a labour and delivery nurse at Women’s College Hospital and says twins are quite common now.
I don’t have twins on my side of the family, so forget the “skip a generation” idea. I did some research and basically, the older women get (ie: late 30s/early 40s), the higher the chance of having twins. Moreso, the body is preparing for menopause and drops multiple eggs at a time, therefore there are more eggs to fertilize.
More and more women are having children later in life, hense the increase in the birth of twins.
FYI - The father just provides his “man-juice” and his bloodline actually has nothing to do with determining if twins will come of it.
As for the in vitro - apparently, its a very painful procedure - there are many other infertility methods, medications, injections, to help couples conceive. I’m sure Brad and Angelina did it the ol’fashioned way. Wouldn’t you?
    Hope this helps.

Carly’s Note: Thanks! I guess you would have to define “common”. I believe twins still only occur in something like 1% of births. Interesting info on older mothers, although that wouldn’t necessarily apply to Angelina since she is still under 35.

    Hi Carly,
    Hawaii?! Excellent!!
Look forward to hearing about it. Hope you get a chance to go to the north shore of Oahu which is more peaceful and scenic than Waikiki and Honolulu.
Even though I’m no longer married we had an amazing honeymoon there!
Have heard nice things about Maui and Kauwai too. Aloha!

Carly’s Note: I attended a wedding in Maui (Wailea). It truly was paradise - warm water, hot sun, gorgeous sand. Very expensive, though. I’ll have to save up before I can go again. :)

Hawaii? Lucky! One place I really want to go one of these days.
So if you check out the new people with the Barngie crew on it, apparently they state in the article that they did not in fact use in vitro to have the twins. It was au naturel lovin’! Lol! She says she wouldn’t have a problem talking about it if that were the route they took, but that they have just had luck in the baby department.
