Hi Carly,
I was working on a horse ranch taking out trail rides when very large purple cloud approached with lightning, thunder, and hail. I had 15 people on this ride and most were unexperienced riders. As we were in an open field area, I led everyone to a forest section on a hillside and sought refuge there. Everyone had dismounted and we stayed with the horses while hail, rain, lightening, and high winds pelted us for 20 min. Once the storm passed, a beautiful rainbow appeared. We then mounted up (everything was soaking wet) and finished our ride.
Some people say it was the best and worst ride they had ever had! lol

Carly's Note: I'm glad the horses weren't too spooked. I know they need to be reassured and if as a rider you're less than confident, i.e. all the beginners you had in the group, they pick up on it.

O.K... so I got stuck in that crazy weather yesterday around 2:30 it started and just kept on going.... was in the dufferin/finch area and sat in my car for about 15 min. waiting for it to let up so I could go back to the office... The car was leaking water inside, ran out of tissues. grabbed the carpet in the back to soak up the drop of water. Finally decided to head out couldn't see anything.... ran into a couple of what seemed to be swimming pools.... pulled over again..... this time on a deserted street surrounded by trees as hail and rain came crashing down on me.. then a thought... as lightning was going off.... what a great place to be... under a tree..... moved.... still water leaking into the car.... hail and rain just coming down like frogs falling from the sky... lightening threatening and loud.... hoping for a clearing... headed out again.... it started up again.... pulled over again..... cell phone wasn't working.... finally clearing up... headed towards the 401 and it finally cleared.... sun was shining and it was like..... what??? what rain????? and all this time...... I was dying to take a pee..... That was my storm horror..... have never been caught in that situation and hope to never again.

Carly's Note: The having to pee adds a sense of urgency - and humour - to your story. Hope you have a better day today!

Hi Carly,
Well there were a couple of years in a row when my wife and another couple would go on holidays to Mexico in the fall(hurricane season) and there were a couple of times when we just missed some big storms.
One time there was a hurricane coming and our flight home to Toronto was cancelled but fortunately there was room on an earlier flight so we got home in time. Whew! We learned to start taking holidays either later or earlier in the year from then on.
Also back in 2005 we were going to New York on business and this was only a week or so after the Air France plane had crash landed at Pearson. There was storm activity over Laguardia so all flights from Toronto to NY were cancelled until the next day. by that time we had missed part of our conference already but our executives insisted we still attend so we went the following day and all of our US colleagues felt sorry for us and plied us with food and drink for the next 2 days. I won't mention the air lines name but they were pretty rude to us when they booted us off the plane and weren't very helpful in getting us new seats. Can you guess which airline?
One of the scariest times was when we were in Florida many years ago and we had a tropical storm. Our ground floor condo was right on the water so during the night i would go outside every hour and count how many paces the surf was from our place. The weird thing about Florida was that the next day it was sunny and beautiful.
Have a great day:)

Carly's Note: It sounds like you have nine lives when it comes to storms. As for the airline, I'm sure I have no clue which one you mean ("mean" being the operative word). :)

I remember as a lad in Scarborough, we had a playground nearby, and a nasty storm blew in fast. At the time they used huge concrete pipes like sewer pipes laid on the ground for kids to play in.
Guess where I went.
Thunder, lightning took out a tree in the far end of the playground, I felt the elecrticity in the air as the hair on my neck rose, and the water made it halfway into the 10 ft long pipe.
Still here to tell the tale, and I am fascinated by these storms ever since.
My kids have caught the bug too, and we watch from a safe place, deep in the garage, whenever one blows thru N.W. Brampton, like now.
Gotta go before the power goes out, but I have batteries in my radio, so I can still listen to Carly rock T.O!

Carly's Note: Isn't it strange how fascinated we are by storms? We forget how forceful nature can be.
