Bad Sweaters
Bill Cosby is auctioning off some of the sweaters he wore on The Cosby Show. The money raised on eBay will benefit the Hello Friend/Ennis William Cosby Foundation, a charity named in memory of the comedian’s son who was murdered while changing a tire by the side of the road in 1997. The auction started today and runs until June 12th. Minimum bids start at $5000.
Now I realize the money is for a good cause, but if I had the cash, I would just donate the dough and tell them to keep the sweater. What would you do with something so hideous? I guess you could turn it into a throw pillow. Do you know someone who has a collection of bad sweaters? Did you ever receive a nasty sweater as a gift? Did you wear it? What about bad ties? There’s always some joker who’s proud to sport his cheesy tie at work or family functions (Jeff Brown). Share your tacky garment stories by clicking on the No Comments/Comments link at the bottom. Today’s Jack Nation bonus code is BADSWEATER. It’s valid until June 4th.

I’ve dated women who made a point of wearing a feather boa. Are they still considered tacky, or have they come back into style while I wasn’t looking?

Carly’s Note: Let me guess - they’re all named Angel and Amber.

While at school in Quebec, my girlfriend gave me a pink sweater back in the 80’s. When I returned to Peterborough for Christmas Break and wore the sweater at one of the local redneck bars, I almost got my ass kicked.
Good job my university jacket said Tae Kwon Do team, otherwise it would have been a feeding frenzy.
Yes it was pink, and not salmon. When in Rome….
Carly’s Note: That Crockett and Tubbs look was hot! It takes a confident man to pull it off, although I guess what says “confidence” in fashion-conscious Quebec says something entirely different in more “conservative” circles.

Hi Carly
Welcome back…nice to hear your voice again over the air waves.
I’m with you on this sweater thing…I would rather give the dough and let them keep the sweater. Not a real big Cosby fan anyway.
I do have a bad sweater collection…gifts from people from different occasions (I would never buy a tacky sweater…haha…good idea at the time anyway) and most don’t fit me now anyway. Time to clean out the closet and put them up for auction. Well, I don’t think I could get much for them so I’ll just give them to the Sally Ann.
You should put your sweaters or other items up for auction …you would get lotsa offers I bet, and for a worthy cause. Something for Jack to think about…items from Jack Celebs for auction…it would be a frenzy.
Keep them air waves a buzzin.

Carly’s Note: I don’t have any bad sweaters, but if I did, I wouldn’t give them to charity. I don’t believe in punishing the poor that way.

Welcome Back…. Afternoon Drive just seemed sooooo much longer, could have been worse the leafs could have been on a losing streak.
Christmas Sweaters from mom, need I say more? And yes, they have to be worn either Christmas day or boxing day.
Work one time had a loudest tie contest, which was won by my truly hideous florescent golf motif on a black back ground, I can thank my daughter for the coffee that day.

Carly’s Note: Thanks, Wombat. By the way, what do you do with a closetful of Christmas sweaters? Can you give the latest one to charity the first week of January or are you expected to trot out the old sweater on Christmas Eve in anticipation of the new one the next day?

I’d have to agree…… If I had that kind of money, which I wish I did, but don’t……. I’d just forgo the sweater and give it directly to the charity…… I think Bill Cosby is great, but those sweaters……. NOT much liking them!!!
Carly’s Note: I couldn’t have put it better myself. Great guy, bad sweaters!

Here’s a good one! My elderly aunt had absolutely no taste, this is before plaids and stripes were in style!. We gave her a very nice and expensive sweater for Christmas, well next year doesn’t she give the same sweater, the wrapping, the same box and our card … to my husband! We just laughed. She wasn’t even 50!
Carly’s Note: Re-gifting is a whole other topic. It’s only permissible if you think the recipient will truly appreciate it.

Reply to what to do: The sweaters sit in the back of the closet, well slowly get pushed to the back; as clothes will, for a year or two, then on my annual I need more hangers, more closet space, less clothes, sort out, they go to a good cause.
Still have the Forest Green turtle neck because it is very Christmasy, and you need one green item for St. Pats day. They psychedelic Blue/White/Black number went out about 6 months later.
Now it is the traditional blackish sweatshirt from roots, can’t complain now.
